Spherical droid BB-8 rolls onstage at Star Wars Celebration 2015

Spherical droid BB-8 rolls onstage at Star Wars Celebration 2015

This week Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and Producer Kathleen Kennedy sat onstage at Star Wars Celebration 2015 - and BB-8 rolled up. Sitting beside a couple of the R2-D2 creators - originally fans, hired by Lucasfilm and Disney for the next movies - out rolled R2-D2, then rolled out BB-8. This spherical droid we first assumed was a special effect. Now we know he's real. He rolled out and moved around - he's a real-deal piece of equipment - remote-controlled, of course, but real metal hardware.

Star Wars practical effects: J.J. Abrams speaks on the standard

This morning during Star Wars Celebration 2015, J.J. Abrams spoke about practical effects in the next movie. He spoke about how they went to Abu Dabi to film the first planet you see in the first teaser for the film - on a planet he revealed was called "Jaku" (we'll see a correct spelling soon). In that place - in the desert - they made the film as complete as they could without effects. In fact, Abrams suggested that the first copy of the film - before Industrial Light and Magic steps in with special effects - the movie can be watched in its entirety.

There are working titles floating around, too, which may hint at the film’s plot-line.

The British TV network is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the show's relaunch by making two bundles available, including one for free.

Star Wars 7 Trailer 2: coming April 17th

Star Wars 7 Trailer 2: coming April 17th

There are several different times at which the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer might be entering your eye sockets. The first is April 17th - this is one day after the first day of Star Wars Celebration, where - rumor suggests - Lucasfilm will be releasing the next teaser trailer for the next Star Wars movie. One day or less, that'd be, before low-quality versions of the trailer (filmed by amateur thieves) is released, and probably one day or less between the showing of said teaser trailer and the online release of said trailer.
