Sanyo unveils 2014 HDTV line including 65-inch 120Hz unit

Sanyo has announced that it has rolled out its new 2014 line of HDTV sets. Every set in the line this year is full HD, 1080p resolution. Sanyo isn't offering any 4K TVs at this time. Considering that Sanyo has become a low price brand, having no 4K sets in its new line is no surprise. Sanyo has offerings in the line ranging from 24-inches to 65-inches.

Panasonic predicts $5.4bn losses, axes plasma plans

Panasonic predicts $5.4bn losses, axes plasma plans

Panasonic has seen demand for its TVs and smartphones ditch, leading to a 6-percent drop in consolidated sales year-on-year and a 141.9 billion yen ($1.82bn) loss over the last three months. Strong Blu-ray player sales could not offset a slump in interest around Panasonic flat-panel TVs and Sanyo digital cameras and other consumer electronics, according to the company's latest financial results, with full year losses expected to be in the region of $5.4bn. To save money, Panasonic will severely curtail its own flat-panel display production, shuttering some lines and stepping down others, and instead source panels from third-party suppliers.

iPhone takes top spot in US smartphone satisfaction stats

J.D. Power has released its latest batch of mobile phone rankings, and Apple grabs first place among smartphones ahead of HTC and Motorola. Interestingly, the researchers found that those who use social networking services - such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn - on their handsets were more satisfied overall; given how much regular checking can suck down juice, it's useful that, among smartphone owners, battery longevity scores only 8-percent in overall satisfaction.

Sanyo GOPAN rice-bread machine is crazy sales success in Japan [Video]

We generally associate Sanyo with HD camcorders, but Japan is actually going wild for the company's kitchen appliances instead. The Sanyo GOPAN looks like a regular bread maker, but it actually bakes rice bread from grains of rice rather than pre-milled rice flour. That might not sound like much, but it's enough to make the $612 GOPAN a massive best-seller in Japan and force the company to freeze sales until April so that production can catch up with demand.
