So, the Chumby came out awhile ago. It’s this little box-like device that pulls information off the internet, like weather, news, and sports updates, and then displays them in Flash format in real-time. It was a pretty original idea, and while it may not have been the sharpest looking thing on the block, its functionality was close to making it worth it. Especially if you don’t like alarm clocks, and can’t afford the alternative. But, apparently the hardware wasn’t the top of the pick for many, and so Chumby is moving over onto the software front, hoping to make a name for itself.

We all know the economy is in the toilet meaning that many who would really like a shiny new TV are forced watching their old set. Despite the tight finances for many Americans, there are a large number of people out there who still have the money lying around to spend on new big purchases lie HDTVs.

Leaked live images of the upcoming Samsung Omnia Pro B7330 smartphone have emerged, complete with a specification sheet.  An update to the B7320, the B7330 still packs a QWERTY keyboard and Windows Mobile, but this time steps up to version 6.5 of the OS.  There’s also a 3.2-megapixel camera and HSDPA connectivity.

Everyone seems to be browsing the internet on their mobile phone now a days, but let’s be honest: up until recently, it wasn’t the greatest of experiences. Why? Because we weren’t getting all that we could. Flash player has been something of a rarity, but it’s starting to peek its much-needed head out more and more, even sneaking on devices like the Samsung Jet. And now it looks like Research In Motion (RIM) is starting to see that Flash is the way to go. But, unlike Samsung’s Jet, RIM doesn’t plan on holding back.

Android phones are coming out all over the place, ranging from the basic Android device, all the way up to HTC’s Sense UI, which made us all take a second look at what Android was capable of. And we’re happy to see the open source Operating System (OS) getting some of the lime-light, especially so quickly. And while HTC has beem the main proponent to Android’s availability on the market, other manufacturers are quickly clamoring to get their piece of the pie. Motorola has two handsets reportedly coming out, the Verizon-bound Sholes (or Shules, whichever you think doesn’t sound ridiculous when you say it aloud), and the T-Mobile Morrison, which is a lower-end device. And Samsung had already inroduced the i7500 (or Galaxy), but it looks like they’re not finished yet. Here, we finally introduce the Samsung Instinct Q.

What you’re looking at – behind phoneArena’s dare-we-say-it slightly “overenthusiastic” watermark – is Samsung’s upcoming U450 QWERTY slider, the phone tipped by Best Buy to land on Verizon come August 23rd.  The U450 apparently has both a QWERTY keyboard and a front-mounted numeric pad, together with a 1.3-megapixel camera according to their source.

I am not a big fan of the Bluetards who wear their Bluetooth headsets everywhere. Bluetooth headsets are great in the car, but when you are just walking around use the phone. We haven't been impressed that you own a Bluetooth device for many years.

samsung omnia touchwizWe’ve never particularly hidden our apathy toward Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, nor our feeling that it’s not quite as usable in its standard form as rival systems from HTC and others.  However all that could change now that Samsung have released the Mobile Widget SDK for TouchWiz, allowing developers to create their own desktop gadgets for not only the Windows Mobile version of the UI but the company’s own proprietary OS.

In doing so, in one fell sweep Samsung have enabled application compatibility across their range.  That’s no small matter, given the number of devices Samsung release – not to mention the countries those handsets are launched in – with TouchWiz giving developers a single platform to code for rather than having to deal with Samsung’s various WinMo, S60 and proprietary OSes.

The Samsung Galaxy (i7500), the only Android device with an AMOLED display, has been out on Germany's network for some time, and it's been the general envy of most Android users out there since its release. While other Android phones like the Magic and Hero are great in their own right, Samsung left it upon itself to create an Android phone that set up to blow the competition (HTC) out of the water. And it looks like that customer base is about to get a lot bigger.

Verizon Wireless is on the road to improvement, especially in the network department. They’ve announced today that they’ve just completed the first initial tests for LTE. Utilizing end-to-end data calls, they are approximate calculations of real world usage. The initial tests in Seattle actually occured back on July 15, but in Boston it went down today.  This kept with Verizon’s initial estimations of testing on the 700MHz spectrum.
