Samsung is the latest company to be tipped as readying a Tegra 2 based tablet, joining Acer, ASUS and Toshiba in the roster of firms expected to release slates based on the NVIDIA chipset in early 2011. The leaked info, passed to DigiTimes from their usual notebook manufacturer sources, doesn't give any potential specifications for the Samsung tablet, but does suggest that NVIDIA has been slashing Tegra 2 pricing in an attempt to score new business. The news is surprising, since Samsung has its own SoC facilities which it has used in recent models.

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab unlimited messaging restored after websales glitch
T-Mobile USA has restored free unlimited messaging to their online offering of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, after the option mysteriously disappeared in late November. The carrier has confirmed that the webstore was at fault; in-store sales were apparently still being offered with bundled unlimited domestic SMS and picture/video messaging, and as far as T-Mobile's PR team were concerned the option should have still been available online.

Samsung has announced that global sales of the Galaxy Tab have already met its one million unit target for 2010, and that the company now expects to shift 1.5m of the Android slates before the year is out. The milestone follows Samsung's last announced sales goal of 600,000 Tabs back in late November 2010.

iPad bests Galaxy Tab in perceived value; neither live up to RRP
Samsung's plastic chassis for the Galaxy Tab may make the 7-inch Android slate more pocket-friendly than the iPad, as well as easier to hold for longer periods of ebook reading, but it doesn't appear to be helping them in the perceived-quality stakes. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster gathered a 65-person strong group of tablet novices together and asked them how much the iPad and the Galaxy Tab were each worth: the group put the Apple slate on average $134 more than the Samsung rival.

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab loses unlimited messaging extra
T-Mobile USA has apparently pulled its free messaging add-on for contract users of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The bonus had offered free unlimited text, picture and video messaging from the 7-inch Android slate when T-Mobile initially offered it earlier this month. Unfortunately, that option has now disappeared from the carrier's checkout process.

The WiFi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab, tipped as incoming in Best Buy's November "Mobile Buyer's Guide", has been delayed. According to an internal pullback notice snapped by Jeff Jarvis, the retailer is blaming "manufacturer delay" for the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab not arriving this month, leaving only carrier-supported 3G models on offer.

Over 600,000 Galaxy Tabs sold claims Samsung
Samsung has announced that it has sold more than 600,000 of its Galaxy Tab slates so far, with the company predicting it will meet its self-imposed target of 1m unit sales by the end of 2010. In Korea alone, Samsung has sold around 30,000 Galaxy Tab units since it went on sale there on November 14.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab goes on sale
If you've been eyeing Samsung's Galaxy Tab but holding out until AT&T decided to offer the 7-inch slate, then prepare your credit card. Sales of the tablet have kicked off on the fourth major US carrier, following Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon's releases earlier in the month. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay through the nose for the AT&T Tab: it's $649.99 with no commitment.
