The 10.1-inch tablet will be sporting Android 3.1 Honeycomb and be the lightest and thinnest tablet in the market to date. When Apple first unveiled their slimmed down iPad 2 that measured only 8.8mm thin, Samsung went back to the drawing board and cut down their Galaxy Tab 10.1 to only 8.6mm thin. But now there are reports that due to some components supply shortages may force Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 to end up being thicker than the iPad 2.

Here we go again. It seems like most of the tablet makers on the market today think that they can toss a tablet out that is similar to the iPad on a different OS and just sell droves of the things because the tablet supports Flash. I think that the gigantic lead the iPad 2 has in the tablet market should show other makers that they need more than Flash support to beat Apple in the tablet game. If they offered a tablet for a lot less money than the iPad 2 with similar specs and Flash support, then they get my attention.

Yesterday I mentioned that the launch date for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was set for June 16 in the US. Pre-orders for that tablet will start on June 8. Europeans that were hoping their launch and pre-order dates would be around those US dates will not like this latest rumor. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 will not hit Europe until August. This isn’t a delay since Samsung has not promised a launch day for Europe yet.

Samsung may be popping bottles over its 1m Galaxy S II sales success in South Korea, but that hasn't stopped the company's engineers from planning ahead. Mobile comms president J.K. Shin told Dow Jones Newswires that not only was Samsung planning a 4G tablet for later in 2012, "an evolution of and an enhanced version of" the Galaxy Tab slates we've seen so far, but a replacement for the Galaxy S II in the first half of 2012.

At this year's Google I/O developer conference, the 5000 attendees each got to walk away with a limited edition Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The limited edition tablet had an army of Androids etched on the back, was sleek and generally fabulous. You can check out our unboxing and review of the tablet. However, the buzz and delight of having ownership of such a tablet didn't last long. There are several folks now that have reported a physical defect with the tablet, having to do with the display.
