Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V heads to Europe

Samsung's announcement of a reworked Galaxy Tab 10.1 at CTIA 2011 this morning prompted no small amount of confusion, given European carrier Vodafone has already picked up the original design as shown at MWC 2011 last month. We've just confirmed that Vodafone's version will launch as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V and will have a couple of key differences to today's new model.

Samsung brings fight to iPad 2 with aggressive new Galaxy Tab pricing

Samsung brings fight to iPad 2 with aggressive new Galaxy Tab pricing

Samsung has officially priced and dated its new Galaxy Tab models, and it seems the company may be the first Android tablet manufacturer to actually compete with the iPad/iPad 2 on sticker price. With a $499 entry-price for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi, matching the baseline for the iPad 2, and the promise of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 actually undercutting the Apple slate by $30, we may for once be looking at a more level playing field for tablet consumers.

GALAXY Tab 10.1 & 8.9 Hands-on [CTIA 2011]

GALAXY Tab 10.1 & 8.9 Hands-on [CTIA 2011]

It's hard to argue with the fact that the iPad 2 sent Samsung rushing back to the lab to try to squeeze some bulk out of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but then it's also clear that both the 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 slates are appealing hardware in their own right. Each slimmer and lighter than the second-gen Apple, they're as close to Star Trek style sci-fi tablets as we've seen so far, making Motorola's XOOM look fat in comparison.

Samsung insists Galaxy Tab 10.1 on schedule: No changes over iPad 2

Samsung has denied plans to delay the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet, insisting that the slate's release has not been postponed amid attempts to make it more competitive against the iPad 2. "We will continue to make every effort to provide the most powerful, well-designed and productive mobile device to customers" claimed Executive Vice President Lee Don-Joo, though that does not include slimming down the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as initially hinted at.

iPad 2 makes Samsung feel inadequate about Galaxy Tab 10.1

iPad 2 makes Samsung feel inadequate about Galaxy Tab 10.1

The iPad 2 that launched this week is a heck of a nice tablet with great performance and a very thin profile. It is certainly more than just a minor refresh of the iPad that was already leading the tablet market. When Apple whipped out the iPad, some competitors weren't happy.

Vodafone Galaxy Tab 10.1 hands-on

Vodafone Galaxy Tab 10.1 hands-on

We're no stranger to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, having given the Android 3.0 Honeycomb slate a good going-over while at MWC 2011 last week, but we didn't turn down the chance of some one-on-one time with the Vodafone-branded version set to launch imminently. Sighted for the first time with the carrier's logo getting up close and personal with Google's own, the tablet still impresses with its lightweight build and XOOM-busting 8-megapixel camera.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 hands-on [Video]

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 all but leaked in its entirety over the weekend, but we were still excited to see what the company had done to bring the original Galaxy Tab concept up to speed with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Making its debut at MWC 2011 today, and set to hit the Asia and European markets in March, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 may not have a Samsung CPU powering it - NVIDIA's Tegra 2 does the crunching duties instead - but it still manages to distinguish itself somewhat from the XOOM.
