Samung’s iPhone-mocking ad named most viral tech ad of 2012

, Dec 5th 2012 Discuss [0]

As December begins, the year starts coming to a close, and with that comes the "best of 2012" awards for pretty much everything. Video tracking service Visible Measures has rounded up the most popular tech ads of 2012, and surprisingly, Apple isn't in the top five. Even more surprising, is that Samsung owns three out of the top five spots on the list -- the number one ad being Samsung's iPhone-mocking commercial that touts "the next best thing is already here." Samsung shows how they stress test the Galaxy S III

, Nov 26th 2012 Discuss [0]

We've all seen those ridiculous drop tests. The ones where people drop brand new gadgets on purpose and try to get them to break. While we all know that almost any smartphone will break when you drop it, what we really want to know is how smartphones hold up when their buttons are pressed thousands of times in a row. Samsung has released a video demonstrating their process of stress testing their flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, and it's actually really interesting to watch. Read The Full Story

Samsung Galaxy S III world’s most popular smartphone in Q3 (but iPhone 5 will change that)

Samsung’s Galaxy S III ousted the iPhone 4S from the top-spot of world’s best-selling smartphone in Q3 2012, new research indicates, with vast distribution and hefty operator subsidies credited for its success. 18m of the Samsung smartphones were shipped in the July-September period, according to Strategy Analytics‘ count, versus 16.2m iPhone 4S models. However, when you factor in the iPhone 5, Apple’s duo does pip the Galaxy S III, with a total of 22.2m shipments in those three months.

Smart device specs are over, long live the ecosystem

, Nov 2nd 2012 Discuss [0]

If there were ever a time when it was more evident that the software ecosystem surrounding a device was more important than the hardware inside it, it’s now. As evidenced first by the rapid rise of Samsung with their Galaxy S III vs the iPhone advertisements and the subsequent massive sales of their whole Galaxy family, then by the almost surprisingly positive reviews the Nokia Lumia 920 is receiving here at the dawn of Windows Phone 8, the importance of the software has tipped the scales. Any brand that doesn’t roll with this understanding will soon be eclipsed.

Nokia Lumia 920 PureView camera hands-on vs Samsung Galaxy S III

, Nov 1st 2012 Discuss [0]

The Nokia Lumia 920 in its AT&T iteration has landed on the SlashGear test bench complete with PureView imaging and Carl Zeiss wide-angle optics this week – so of course it’s immediately time to test it against the Samsung Galaxy S III. We’ll be testing its camera against the iPhone 5 as well rather soon – and whatever other devices you request as well – but first it’s time to battle one of the biggest competitors Nokia has in the field. The Samsung Galaxy S III wasn’t originally pushed specifically on its photo-taking abilities nearly so much as the Lumia 920 has been, so pay close attention to how they compare in some real-world tests.

HTC One X+ benchmarked vs Jelly Bean Galaxy S III: Fight!

, Oct 24th 2012 Discuss [0]

The new HTC One X+ has landed on the SlashGear test bench, and with HTC so especially proud of the performance tune-up its given its Android flagship, we were keen to see how it fared. Day-to-day speed we’ll have to test awhile ahead of our full review, but some early benchmarks should help identify where the Tegra 3 smartphone has been particularly polished. Plus, with the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung’s unlocked Galaxy S III dropping in the UK just earlier today, it seemed rude not to run some comparative scores.

Samsung Galaxy Note II (T-Mobile) Review

, Oct 24th 2012 Discuss [0]

In the Samsung Galaxy Note II we’ve got an experience like no other – similar to the first Galaxy Note with its massive display and S-Pen action, but here with processing power and software just great enough to carve for itself a unique place in the smart device universe. The T-Mobile version of this device is so very similar to the rest of the carrier editions here in the USA that it’s almost foolish to review it more than once – the differences have been sliced down to the apps included inside, Samsung once again flexing their brand power to keep the device near-identical across all carrier borders. This device is to the Galaxy Note line what the Galaxy S III was to the Galaxy S line, continuing very much with Samsung’s coming-of-age – very wise indeed.
