Samsung quickly admitted its mistake, telling TechRadar that it planned to reimplement the feature in a future update. Samsung records $5.9bn Q2 boosted by strong Galaxy S III sales
Samsung has revealed its financial results for Q2 2012, and as expected it’s been a barnstorming quarter, with the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note helping push operating profit up 79-percent to $5.9bn. Sales for the three month period rose 21-percent year-on-year to $42bn, with mobile specifically up 75-percent alone, though Samsung’s semiconductor business was a blot on the balance sheet with a 6-percent fall versus last year.

Samsung admits international Galaxy S III local search goof: Fix incoming
Samsung has denied purposefully removing local search from international Galaxy S III handsets, insisting that the loss of functionality was in fact a mistake in the upgrade process. Owners of the international Galaxy S III, which is sold across Europe, were frustrated to discover that a firmware update pushed out earlier this week stripped the controversial local search integration from their phone with no apparent warning. Now, Samsung tells TechRadar, it intends to fix the problem.

Samsung trounced iPhone twice over in Q2 smartphones claim analysts
Samsung had an iPhone-squashing Q2 2012, analysts predict, shipping twice as many smartphones in the three month period, though the specter of the iPhone 5 is expected to put a dampener on Korean celebrations. The Galaxy S III helped lead Samsung to a total of 52m smartphones in Q2, Juniper Research estimates, more than double Apple's market-disappointing 26m iPhone sales.

Samsung has pushed out a new OTA software update today for the international Galaxy S III, though while the firmware upgrade is in fact a feature downgrade, you wouldn't necessarily realize it before installing. Billed as a "stability" update by Samsung itself, the new software actually strips local search functionality from the Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, just as Samsung has been doing with versions of the Galaxy S III in the US.

Samsung Galaxy S III blasts past 10m sales
Samsung has sold more than ten million Galaxy S III handsets, according to the company’s president for mobile communications, passing the milestone less than two months after the smartphone hit shelves. Shin Jong-kyun, chief of Samsung’s information technology and mobile communication division, confirmed the news today, the Yonhap News Agency reports. The handset is headed to the 40m sales mark in 2012, it’s predicted.

The folks at Samsung have sent our invites to the press for a "major" Galaxy-line announcement on the 15th of August, fueling rumors that a second-generation Galaxy Note device is in the works. This week the folks at Samsung have allowed a select few to get a hands-on experience with their brand new Music Hub, an application which will at first only be available on the Samsung Galaxy S III. This application is at first glance a mix between each of the greater streaming music applications out there: Google Music and Spotify seeming particularly comparable. When you get in deep, though, you’ll find that it’s not only the nicer bits of each of the top brass music apps on the market, it’s got a pretty nice overall feel as well.

A bug has popped up in early review units for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III in its Wi-fi notifications system specifically in the tenacity behind its reminders for the user to work with wireless web when a network is near. Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy S III has a feature that gives you the option to be notified if there's a nearby Wi-fi network - simple enough, right? Though the other versions of the Galaxy S III have similar options, Verizon's is the only with the feature that has no option to turn off - this resulting in no less than a pop up window that appears multiple times a day or more.
