Galaxy S II US branding revealed: Verizon Function, AT&T Attain, Sprint Within

US carrier branding for the Samsung Galaxy S II has apparently leaked, with Verizon, AT&T and Sprint's versions of the well-esteemed smartphone all being prematurely named. According to Wireless Xcessories Group, the handset will be known as the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Attain on AT&T, the Galaxy S 2 Function on Verizon, and the Galaxy S 2 Within on Sprint.

We've been anxiously awaiting the Droid Charge coming to Verizon, as it was supposed to be released on April 28th. Verizon delayed the release of the second 4G LTE phone on its network when it experienced an outage for most of the day on April 27th, the day before the Charge's scheduled release. Samsung gets Galaxy S II party started (with bonus thumb research)

Samsung has given the Galaxy S II the smartphone equivalent of a champagne bottle across the bows, kicking off plans to launch the Android handset on over 140 carriers spread across 120 countries. Star of a media event in Korea this morning, the Galaxy S II not only offers a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display but the thumb-research to back up its usability. Apparently Samsung took its tape measure around Korea, figuring out that the average thumb is 58.6mm long, before green-lighting the huge display as suitable for one-handed use.

It's been a long time since our first hands-on play with the white iPhone 4: all the way back at WWDC 2010, in fact, when the fourth-gen smartphone was brand spanking new and sparkling under Apple's halogens. That triumphant launch paved the way for the black handset with no white accompaniment, the start of an embarrassing series of delays as Apple struggled with untold technical difficulties. Now, April 28, more than ten months since its unveil, the white iPhone 4 has finally gone on sale.

It's pretty good timing for Verizon's DROID Charge by Samsung to arrive today, just when our Samsung Galaxy S II review goes live. Both smartphones share a couple of important features, most notably the 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display. Unlike the previous AMOLED and Super AMOLED technology, the new Super AMOLED Plus allows you to see the display much better out in sunlight thanks to 50-percent more sub-pixels (this means twelve sub-pixels instead of eight). Looking at the display makes us want to weep like a 12-year old boy on Christmas morning. The Droid Charge has LTE to differentiate it, the second 4G smartphone to Verizon's line-up.
