, Feb 27th 2012 Discuss [16]

During a media roundtable today at MWC 2012, Samsung admitted that its efforts in the tablet market have missed the mark. Samsung product strategy exec Hankil Yoon was refreshingly direct, saying: "Honestly, we're not doing very well in the tablet market." However, the company appears confident in its new Galaxy Note series of tablets, which includes the 5-inch "phablet" phone-tablet hybrid version and the newly announced 10.1-inch model. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 spotted in pre-MWC ads

Well well well: this would appear to be some pretty solid evidence that Samsung's latest stylus kick is getting even more plus-sized come Monday. Swedish blogger Anders Frick spotted a couple of large-scale advertisements in and around the Fira de Barcelona, where the first pre-show events for Mobile World Congress are set to begin in just a few hours. While he was clearly doing a little surreptitious snooping, what he caught with his camera is pretty clearly the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, a full-sized tablet version of the original Galaxy Note. The device itself should get a proper unveiling sometime on Monday. Read The Full Story

Can Samsung convince Dilbert on the Galaxy Note?

Samsung can’t stop sniping at Apple, and the latest Galaxy Note street challenge seems to have convinced at least one disgruntled iPhone owner; however, the Korean firm still has Dilbert to persuade. For its latest commercial, Samsung apparently took  its 5.3-inch smartphone-tablet hybrid to the mean streets of New York City, giving Android users a few hours to get to grips with the “phablet”, and then pitted them against iPhone owners on a series of challenges.

Galaxy Note for AT&T Review

The Galaxy Note is no stranger to SlashGear: we reviewed the international version back in November 2011, finding it a curious – and in certain ways compelling – anomaly on the mobile landscape. Since then we’ve had plenty of experience with the oversized smartphone, most recently the arrival of AT&T’s LTE version. Differences between the two are slight, so a full re-review isn’t in order. However, read on for our latest thinking on this smartphone/tablet hybrid, where it stands up, and where – despite what Samsung insists – it falls flat on its 5.3-inch face.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tipped for MWC 2012 debut

, Feb 15th 2012 Discuss [9]

Samsung has apparently confirmed a 10.1-inch tablet version of its Galaxy Note pen-enabled smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, with an S-Pen developer event to be held at MWC 2012 later this month. Mention of the device – presumably a version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with stylus input – is made on Samsung’s official blog, and while it’s possibly a mistype, other signs point to it being a legitimate product.

LG Optimus Vu and Samsung Galaxy Note pictured side-by-side

, Feb 10th 2012 Discuss [24]

To say the least, LG made some heads turn when its newest smartphone, known as the Optimus Vu, made its rounds on the blogosphere. The fact that it sports a 5-inch display is intriguing enough; it's part of what could be new trend. But what's really odd is its 4:3 aspect ratio, making us think back to the days of old-school TV. You know, before the letters "HD" meant anything to most people. The question many posed was "why do we want to step back to that time?" Read The Full Story

Samsung SuperBowl misses gigantic opportunity, fails socially

As Samsung's series of Apple-crushing advertisements came to a conclusion (or so they say) at the SuperBowl, Twitter filleted the finale as a terrible final note. This advertisement for many was their first look at the Galaxy Note, a device which has been out overseas for several months not, it having a gigantic display, the power of the Galaxy S II, and a stylus. The commercials made by Samsung in this same vein up until now were praised for their ability to capture the viewer and make simple sense to both Android and iPhone users - according to Twitter users, Samsung threw that winning formula out the window completely for the final installment.
