SlashGear interviews Futura 2000 on Samsung and the power of cross-branding

SlashGear interviews Futura 2000 on Samsung and the power of cross-branding

The artist / designer known as Futura 2000 has executed a rather interesting set of collaborative projects in his lifetime, painting a portfolio of historically significant cross-overs that's lead him straight to Samsung. The folks at Samsung took the opportunity very recently to team up with Futura for the first time to present a unique use-case for the Galaxy Note 10.1 (tablet with S-Pen stylus) and its major potential in the hands of this creative icon and legend. In our interview we found that though Samsung presents this man as a larger-than-life hero here in their second collaboration (here using the Galaxy Note II as a central device), he's actually quite the down-to-earth conversationalist, and has shown his approach with the Galaxy Note device series to be made with the same intrigue as your everyday average gadget enthusiast.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 25, 2012

Welcome to Thursday evening folks. Today was Microsoft's big Windows 8 launch event, and though we didn't find out many new details, the company did share a few interesting tidbits of information. For instance, did you know that there are more than 1,000 Windows 8 certified PCs now? How about the fact that Microsoft has sold a whopping 670 million Windows 7 licenses? Microsoft also told us that the Windows Store will be available in 231 markets, and that Windows RT is supported by more than 420 million devices. Impressive numbers to be sure, but it's important to remember why we were at this show in the first place: Windows 8 launches in just a few hours, so get ready for that.

T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note II has hardware support for LTE

T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note II has hardware support for LTE

At the moment, one of the downsides to picking T-Mobile over a number of other carriers is that T-Mobile doesn't yet have a 4G LTE network set up. We were thinking that this would naturally mean no LTE support built into T-Mobile's version of the Galaxy Note II, but today we're finding out that assumption was wrong. AnandTech pointed out that T-Mobile's version of the Note II has hidden support for LTE under the hood in its review of the device, meaning that you if buy the Note II, you won't have to buy an entirely new device once T-Mobile gets the ball rolling on its own LTE network.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II hands-on

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II hands-on

It's time for the most gigantic branding you've ever seen on a smartphone, right here live on the Galaxy Note II made by Samsung and plastered by Verizon. What will likely be one of the most sought-after models of the Galaxy Note II here is also being shown to have a Verizon logo on the front on the home button - as big as the home button - with Verizon's 4G LTE branding on the back panel as well, rather massively. We got ahold of this Verizon Galaxy Note II unit at the Samsung Galaxy Note II World Tour NYC stop this week amid many party favors indeed.

Give yourself a pat on the back, because you've officially made it through Wednesday - only two more days to go and the weekend is here again. We had a lot of news hit today, so let's jump right in. Today we may have seen some leaked press shots of the LG Nexus 4, but then sadly found out that they might be fake. The Galaxy Note II is now available for order at T-Mobile, but it's a bit on the expensive side when compared to a certain other carrier, and new Apple documents have revealed that Samsung is the focus of a 3G patent antitrust investigation here in the US.

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets Verizon branding on home button

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is coming to the US soon, and when it arrives it will be on a number of different carriers. If you're picking one up at Verizon because of the carrier's great network, we can't really blame you, but be forewarned: buying the Note II at Verizon will net you a certain extra that you may not want. Specifically, we're talking about Verizon branding on the Note II's home button.

Samsung descends upon NYC to out-do Microsoft with Kanye West

If you were thinking about forgetting that the Galaxy Note II existed for one reason or another, the party happening tonight hosted by Samsung and starring no less than Kanye West is surely meant to change your mind. With the Samsung Galaxy Note II about to be available on several carriers across the United States and abroad, this week Samsung has brought on a media event blast normally reserved for a slightly less publicized event than this - ie a product announcement. Here though, it's all about keeping the thunder while Microsoft is in town.

Samsung Galaxy Note II (T-Mobile) Review

Samsung Galaxy Note II (T-Mobile) Review

In the Samsung Galaxy Note II we've got an experience like no other - similar to the first Galaxy Note with its massive display and S-Pen action, but here with processing power and software just great enough to carve for itself a unique place in the smart device universe. The T-Mobile version of this device is so very similar to the rest of the carrier editions here in the USA that it's almost foolish to review it more than once - the differences have been sliced down to the apps included inside, Samsung once again flexing their brand power to keep the device near-identical across all carrier borders. This device is to the Galaxy Note line what the Galaxy S III was to the Galaxy S line, continuing very much with Samsung's coming-of-age - very wise indeed.
