Samsung Galaxy Note 3 breaks 10m barrier

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 has passed the 10m sales mark, taking just sixty days to set phablet sales records, and doubling the pace set by the Note 2 before it. A simultaneous launch across 58 countries didn't hurt, Samsung says, but the company also credits the appeal of the large screen in North American and European markets, and the stylus input option for phonetic languages such as in China, as broadening demand for the large phone.

This week there's word on the expected range of dates for the Android 4.4 KitKat software update for the current and second-most recent set of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Notes. This tip suggests that models GT-I9500, SM-N900, GT-I9300, and SM-N7100 will all be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat inside of 2014, with the newest set of devices seeing this update inside of January.

Samsung Galaxy fingerprint scanner up next: Note 3 nearly supplied

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 works with a variety of next-generation abilities, most of them based in its unique S Pen technology - one thing it doesn't have (but almost did) is a fingerprint scanner. Currently rolling out with the iPhone 5s with Touch ID and quite likely appearing on the HTC One Max, the fingerprint scanner entry point for smartphones appears to be rising as a "must have" feature for smartphones in general. According to an anonymous "industry official" speaking with the ETNews network in Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was initially supposed to be part of this first wave (first modern wave, that is,) of print-scanning smartphones.

Earlier this year at the international technology conference known as Mobile World Congress, we got our first chance to have a hands-on look at the Samsung HomeSync Android TV box. Tossing aside the idea that a Google-friendly TV box should run none other than Google TV itself, Samsung decided here that the system should take on the likes of their own Samsung Link system. Appearing October 6th, the Samsung HomeSync device will be working with the Samsung Galaxy S 4, Galaxy Note 3, and a collection of other recent Samsung smartphone and tablet releases.

Galaxy Note 3 not the only one free of “benchmark shenanigans” accusations [UPDATE]

As the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 appears on US-shores we've seen talk of not quite on-the-level benchmark boosting by the likes of what, at first, would seem to be the manufacturer of the smartphone. This report originates with Ars Technica where they suggest that the smoking gun is the fact that this smartphone brings up four full-powered CPU cores whenever it's asked to open any one of several big-name benchmarking apps. What we've found is that this situation is not - by any means - limited to Samsung's hardware.
