Samsung Gear Glass tipped for 2014

Samsung will launch a Google Glass rival, currently dubbed the Galaxy Gear Glass, sometime in Q2 2014 an insider claims, supposedly expanding its wearable family with a head-worn computer. The work-in-progress gadget is expected to arrive in April or May next year, according to Eldar Murtazin, following up the Galaxy Gear smartwatch which Samsung launched in Berlin last month. Although still unconfirmed by Samsung itself, the teased device needn't be too far from what Samsung has already developed for the wrist.

Samsung Galaxy Gear ads give smartwatches some heritage

"After all these years, it's finally real." Samsung has kicked off its advertising campaign for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and it's calling on the heritage of all the more memorable fictional forebears to remind us just how high-tech the wearable is. Samsung's new "Evolution" campaign - and a second spot, called "A Long Time Coming" - set the Galaxy Gear at the end of a smartwatch legacy that includes Dick Tracy's wrist-phone, Michael Knight's KITT watch, and even the Predator's scanner. In fact, Samsung has dug up some watch-phones you might not even remember.

Samsung Galaxy Gear could get Smart TV integration

Samsung's Galaxy Gear may be in a committed relationship with the Galaxy Note 3 right now, but the Korean firm is considering integrating the smartwatch with future TVs, it has revealed. The wearable, which we reviewed earlier this week, could be used to collect and feed fitness and health information from viewers to their smart TVs, Samsung director of product marketing Ryan Bidan told Computerworld, with the possibility of a new S Health app for living room use.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Review

Samsung Galaxy Gear Review

In the Samsung Galaxy Gear, the company has created a device custom-fitted for the Galaxy Note 3. While it may seem that this device is the first in a long line of smartwatches made for the greater world of Android, it would appear here that Samsung started small and marketed big. This device is not the do-all smartwatch you may be dreaming of - instead, it may just be the Samsung-specific smartwatch you'll find you need. Once you buy it and slap it on your wrist, that is - and that's the real trick, isn't it?

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hits T-Mobile Wednesday on pre-order

Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear have begun hitting pre-order status with carriers in the United States, T-Mobile jumping aboard for a run this Wednesday. While the folks at AT&T have made clear their intention on offering up early adopters a chance at tossing cash in at midnight tonight for the smartwatch, this beast of a smartphone will be appearing for pre-order from T-Mobile starting on September 18th - again, this Wednesday. We must assume that this also starts at midnight day-of.

Samsung Galaxy Gear pre-orders start at midnight for AT&T

This morning the folks at AT&T have announced that they'll be first on the block with Samsung Galaxy Gear pre-orders, this being the latest in Samsung's efforts to bring a smartwatch to the masses. Samsung begins its wearables journey (again) here with the Galaxy Gear in the United States on AT&T exclusively - though release schedules have suggested that this device will be hitting other carriers soon. And of course there's the fact that this device has no cellular radio that suggests it'll be appearing in more places than just mobile provider stores - AT&T just appears here first.

Samsung Galaxy Gear “over-spec’d” argues Pebble smartwatch creator

Smartwatches like Samsung's Galaxy Gear and Sony's multiple attempts to break the wearables market are trying too hard and missing the point, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky says, arguing that simplicity is the right route to the wrist. "I think everyone is kind of ignoring the things that you need to do with a smartwatch" Kickstarter success Migicovsky said at TechCrunch Disrupt today. "It needs to mesh into your life, it needs to have a long battery life ... and it needs to just not, y'know, be annoying."
