Best Buy has announced that it is taking pre-orders right now on the cool Samson USB studio microphones called the Meteor. I mentioned the Meteor back when Samson first announced the microphone in early January around CES time. Best Buy has announced that it is taking pre-orders now on the shiny chrome version of the Meteor and on a limited edition gold plated version of the mic as well.

The chrome version of the mic and the gold one are the same as far as features go. The limited edition gold version of the mic sets itself apart for the standard chrome offering with its 22K gold plated body that is jewelry grade and it comes in a mahogany wood case. Other features of the limited edition mic include a special gold braided USB cable.

Each of the limited edition Meteor mics is numbered and there are only 400 units being made and sold. The gold version of the mic will only be offered at Best Buy stores. Other than the color and limited edition nature both the gold and chrome mics share the same 25mm condenser element, stereo headphone output, and an all metal body with the cool folding legs for standing the mic upright. Pre-orders are underway for the limited edition mic now for $149.99 and the standard version is $99.99 with shipment on both set for April 15.

Samson makes some nice microphones for computer users that are aimed at all sorts of needs. The mics allow a user to record their own music at home or make podcasts and video with better sound. The latest product from Samson has been unveiled at it s a very shiny and cool new USB studio microphone called the Meteor Mic.

The mic works for Skype and voice recognition software in addition to music and voice recording according to Samson. The Meteor Mic has a built-in stand that allows it to be positioned in several ways to best suit the recording environment. It also has a 1.8-inch headphone output for monitoring.

The mic comes with a soft carry bag and uses a single USB cable for connectivity and power. It will work with the iPad using a USB adapter. It has a 25mm diaphragm, cardioids pickup pattern, a frequency response of 20Hz to 20 kHz and supports CD quality sound recording. It will hit stores on April 15 for $99.

There’s also auto-gain control with two user-selectable settings, an integrated USB cable and a preloaded copy of HandyShare for editing footage together with adding effects like reverb and normalizing the audio levels. Alternatively an HDMI output lets you plug the Q3HD straight into your TV.

The bundled 2GB SD card is good for up to 45 minutes of HD video, or you can swap it out for up to a 32GB SDHC for up to 7hrs recording. The display is a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 panel. No sign of pricing or availability.

It’s not paranoia if you insist on recording every conversation you ever have, it’s just plain common sense. Zoom obviously know that, since they’ve just outed their latest stereo recorder, the Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, and it’s their smallest and cheapest to-date. $99 gets you a 2oz handheld with twin stereo microphones capable of slapping down 24-bit/96 kHz stereo audio onto up to 32GB microSDHC cards.

It’s supposedly easier to use, too, with Zoom ousting menus in favor of dedicated buttons that control track markers, auto record, low cut filters, level and volume controls. A 32GB card is good for 50hrs of audio, an AA battery is good for 10hrs recording, and there are USB, tripod mount, 1/8-inch external mic input and stereo 1/8-inch line outputs along with a reference speaker. Expect it to hit shelves on July 30th, priced at $99, alongside a $24.99 H1 accessory kit including windscreen, AC adapter (USB type), USB cable, adjustable tripod stand, soft carrying pouch and mic clip adapter.

So, we thought we’d let you all share in the goodness, and give two lucky individuals out there the chance to win a Go Mic. Just follow the break, take a gander at the rules, and then go ahead and throw your hat into the giveaway. You never know, you may pull out a shiny new toy.

What can the Go Mic do? Well, it’s a USB microphone that clips directly to your laptop (or whatever else you need it to clip to). As Samson says, it’s a perfect device to record music or podcasts, amongst other things. You can also use it for voice recognition software, iChat, or even web casting. It’s a plug-and-play designed mic, so it will work with your Mac or PC without a problem. Basically, it’s a great little microphone.

So, here’s the deal. Much like our previous giveaways, you’re going to have to leave us a comment down below. However, this time around, you need to give us a creative, original reason why you want the Samson Go Mic. Whether it be for your new podcast you’ve been wanting to launch, but couldn’t because you don’t have a mic, or you’re heading out to the Congo and you need a field recorder to catch your ideas, the sky is the limit. Yes, we’d like some realism, but hey, if you’re creative enough, you might just get picked.

Furthermore, be respectful of us, yourself, and the other participants. No cursing or other malicious content, please. You’re only allowed one comment, so just make it the best comment you can. And finally, this content is going to last a week, so you’ve got some time to think of a comment if you need to. And next Friday we’ll get in touch with the two winners.

Samson makes all sorts of gear for consumers up to professional musicians. The company has a whole line of microphones for concerts and home recording on the PC. Samson also has a line of sound systems called Expedition that lets users play their iPod tracks anywhere. The company has announced the addition of two new products to the Expedition line.

The gear includes the 40W XP40iw, which is the first Expedition model from Samson to include a wireless mic and a rechargeable battery. The wireless mic system can be used for playing music at parties and karaoke. The XP40iw has 40W of power and a 6-inch woofer. Two additional input channels can be used to connect more mics and it has a built-in iPod dock. The system will sell for under $300.

The other new system is the XP510i. This machine has a detachable 10-channel mixer and 500W of power via a pair of 250W Class D amps. High range sounds are handled by 1-inch high frequency drivers. The woofers in XP510i are 10-inches and it also has a built-in iPod dock. The MSRP for the system will be under $700.
