Canon has gushed its latest torrent of point-and-shoot cameras, a ten-strong update to its PowerShot line that includes weatherproof options, lengthy zooms and the choice of touchscreen control. Most interesting are the new PowerShot ELPH 530 HS and ELPH 320 HS, which each get WiFi and a 12x and 5x optical zoom respectively. The 530 HS has a 10-megapixel sensor and is 0.78-inches thick, while the 320 HS has a 16.1-megapixel sensor. Both have a 3.2-inch touchscreen and shoot Full HD 1080p video. The 530 HS will ship in April for $349.99, while the 320 HS will ship in March for $279.99.
Nikon's final three cameras of the morning borrow a little from both the P510 superzoom and the S-series compacts, a mongrel collection of zoomers, rugged snappers and super-simple models each promising HD video recording. The COOLPIX L810, L26 and S30 can each be run on AA batteries, and all come in at under the $280 mark, with Nikon hoping they can lure you away from the temptation of convergence and relying solely on your smartphone camera.
Sonyhas outed a trio of new Cyber-shot digital cameras, including a slimline flagship, the DSC-TX200V, and a pair of affordable point-and-shoots, the DSC-WX70 and WX50. The TX200V measures in at a pocket-friendly 95.5 x 58.3 x 16 mm but still manages to fit in an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, 26mm 5x optical zoom and a 3.3-inch Xtra Fine TruBlack OLED touchscreen.
Olympus has outed three new compact cameras at CES, the VG-160, VR-340 and Tough TG-320, offering point-and-shoot practicality along with 720p HD video recording. The Olympus Tough TG-320 packs a 14-megapixel sensor and 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom lens into a waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof casing, with a 3D photo mode - that works underwater - and an HDMI port for easy TV connectivity.
Liquid Image has a trio of new sports cameras to show at CES this week, two sets of goggles with integrated still and video recording and a flexible-mount model, each packing WiFi connectivity. The new Liquid Image EGO, TORQUE HD and APEX HD target Contour and GoPro buyers, offering up to 1080/30p or 720/60p HD video recording and 12-megapixel stills together with the ability to wirelessly stream video via WiFi to a smartphone app or your laptop.
Motorola has unveiled a pair of new Android smartphones, the Motorola MOTOLUXE and Motorola DEFY MINI, headed to Europe, Latin America and Greater China in the spring. The MOTOLUXE packs a 4-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen, 800MHz processor running Android 2.3.7, dualband UMTS and an 8-megapixel camera, while the DEFY MINI has a smaller, 3.2-inch 480 x 320 display, 600MHz processor and a mere 3-megapixel camera, but is wrapped up in a ruggedized casing with Gorilla Glass fascia.
