Eight Lenovo ThinkPads hit military rugged standards

Lenovo has announced that eight of its ThinkPad notebooks have passed military-standards for ruggedization, making them not only resistant to pressure, humidity, temperature, dust and vibration, but to a greater extent than some "mil-spec" rivals.  The ThinkPad X200, X301, X200s, X200 Tablet, T400, T500, R400 and SL300 all passed durability tests despite not being specifically marketed as ruggedized models. Sprint Motorola i365IS ‘Intrinsically Safe’ rugged cellphone

Sprint have announced the Motorola i365IS, where the "IS" stands for "Intrinsically Safe".  According to Sprint, the i365IS "is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy to ignite fuel and cause a fire or explosion" and is safe to use in areas containing flammable gasses, vapors or dust.  Personally, I'd like any cellphone I use to be incapable of exploding, but maybe that's too much to ask.  As well as promising not to go supernova in your front pocket, the i365IS has push-to-talk (PTT), military-spec ruggedization and Bluetooth. Panasonic unveils AVCHD Lite capable DCM-TZ-ZS3 and DMC-FT1

Apparently the everything-proof Olympus Stylus SW cameras haven’t get enough publicity of it’s toughness in handling most challenging shooting grounds. The company has reinforced the shockproof, waterproof, freezeproof, crushproof and dustproof Stylus with a better title – Stylus TOUGH, a name with implication of roughness, message received! Olympus’s Marketing director at Europe division said consumer is looking for digicams that define durability in additional to the core image features. Sonim XP3 cellphone takes rugged to another level

Sonim have announced the follow-up to their XP1 rugged cellphone, which comes in the shape of the chunky XP3.  Despite Sonim's enthusiastic claims to the XP1's invulnerability, the XP3 is apparently even more shock and drop resistant; it's also waterproof, and can survive being fully submersed for 30 minutes within one meter of water. Panasonic Toughbook CF-H1 Mobile Clinical Assistant: Video Demos

Panasonic have officially announced the Toughbook CF-H1 Medical Tablet PC they demonstrated at the IDF in August.  Fully ruggedized to military standard 810F, as well as being IP54 compliant, the CF-H1 has a magnesium alloy chassis and is capable of surviving a 3ft drop as well as rain, dust, spills and vibrations. Underneath lurks a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB shock-mounted hard-drive. Primary input is via the 10.4-inch XGA resolution dual-touch LCD.
