Rovio and Zynga battle for mobile and social gaming supremacy

This morning it was announced by Finnish mobile entertainment company and Angry Birds creator Rovio that they'd acquired Futuremark Games studio. Last week we heard that Zynga picked up the makers of Draw Something, the fabulously titled OMGPOP. Now what we've got is a silent war on our hands, not to destroy one another, but to gain sway over the social networking and mobile gaming worlds startup by startup. Zynga currently dominates the social aspect of this equation, while Rovio is tearing through mobile gaming with a hot knife, carrying out a release of its newest game Angry Birds: Space with healthy precision.

Angry Birds goes giant with Seattle Space Needle

Angry Birds goes giant with Seattle Space Needle

The brand new Angry Birds: Space launch has hit a new level of gigantism with an abnormally oversized Red Bird tied on to the Seattle Space Needle. This landmark gains new meaning as the physics-based entertainment game adds its own 300 foot tall slingshot as fans were invited to the top of the beast to play the game on launch day. Angry Birds: Space cupcakes were given out by Food Network's Cupcake Wars finalists, and there was much rejoicing.

Angry Birds Space gets Windows Phone reprieve

Angry Birds Space gets Windows Phone reprieve

Angry Birds developer Rovio Mobile has done a 180, announcing a version of Angry Birds Space for Windows Phone is in the pipeline just hours after the company admitted it had no plans to release on Microsoft's smartphone platform. "We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7" Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told Reuters, despite CMO Peter Vesterbacka's earlier dismissal of the possibility with the claim it was "a lot of work to technically support it" for minimal return.

It's the greatest day of the week if you're a lover of the ultra popular gaming franchise Angry Birds, as the Space expansion has been revealed by none other than NASA! And not just NASA, but NASA's Don Pettit as he floats aboard the International Space Station 240 nautical miles above the surface of Earth! Angry Birds outs Galaxy Note update, Android 4.0 ICS missing

Angry Birds outs Galaxy Note update, Android 4.0 ICS missing

It appears that the possibility that Samsung will be pushing another "Premium Suite" upgrade to their devices instead of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update promised weeks ago may be getting very real. Though we've yet to hear back on the oddity of this particular tip, the words are there for everyone to read, and right at the end of the Samsung Galaxy Note's very own Angry Birds Space teaser 2 video, of all places. We've been teased with this game for some time now, hearing that Rovio is working with Samsung for a release on Samsung smartphones exclusively, that they're working with NASA and National Geographic for cross-promotion, and now that the Galaxy Note will be the first device to roll out with the update.

Angry Birds: Space ties with NASA and National Geographic

Rovio's teaser this past week of the newest Angry Birds release to be known as Angry Birds: Space has this week been given a PR boost by none other than NASA and National Geographic! In an interview with Yahoo Games, Rovio North America general manager had a bit more information on the game, especially in regards to what the game will hold for gameplay. We'd hypothesized that Angry Birds: Space would have at least one launch partner, Samsung's Galaxy Note being amongst them, but now it looks more like Rovio will be going to space much more literally!

Angry Birds Space teased, may land with Galaxy S III

The next generation of Angry Birds is right around the corner - a phrase we could say basically any day of the month. But this time it's true insofar as they've announced a brand new concept: Angry Birds Space. This will be an entirely separate game just like Angry Birds Seasons is separate from Angry Birds Rio, and not one whole heck of a lot of information has been revealed thus far. There's a very short teaser out already, and the logo has dropped, but other than that, we're expecting lots of gravity modifications.

KISS frontman Gene Simmons eyes Angry Birds deal

When you think of colorful, odd-shaped birds flinging into a group of circular green pigs, does a man who dresses up in gaudy black-and-white makeup and gothic black outfits come to mind? Well, maybe. But then again, with the number of different promotions and partnerships Rovio has managed to milk out of Angry Birds, pretty much anything sounds like it makes sense at this point.
