Grand Theft Auto V lays claim to “fastest to $1 billion” sales crown

Suggesting that they've attained the honor of becoming the fastest entertainment property in history to achieve worldwide retail sales of $1 billion dollars, GTA V sets itself up against not only other video games, but feature films as well. Though it's not the same industry save its ability to entertain, it is entertaining (perhaps ironically), to compare the sales of Grand Theft Auto V to sales of tickets to major motion picture releases in our collective past. What both Take-Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games have done this week is to suggest that they're the new kings of speed sales.

Watch Dogs calls out GTA V: 2 months is enough

Suggesting that both games are tied inextricably to their city-based environments, Ubisoft has called out Rockstar Games with an advertisement for Watch Dogs at the expense of Grand Theft Auto 5 this afternoon. The game GTA V is an "open sandbox" game which allows the user to run freely through the fictional island-based city of Los Santos, while Watch Dogs takes place in a futuristic Chicago. Ubisoft suggests that the amount of time between the launch of GTA V (today) and Watch Dogs (November) is plenty for a friendly visit.

In the last several Grand Theft Auto video games, working with the gamer behind the control stick to allow them a new level of control and freedom in the in-game environment. Here with Grand Theft Auto v (aka GTA 5), the folks at Rockstar Games have taken things to a whole new level of playing with the mind of the player. Here you've got an app for the iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) that essentially replaces your homescreen in favor of a display that your in-game character might have.

GTA V hits homes early while Microsoft bans spoiler consoles

Two things are happening this week in the world of Grand Theft Auto 5: one includes Amazon UK sending out copies of the game early, the other includes console banning for users playing and sharing spoilers from the game. Users inside the UK have been seeing their copies of the game for Xbox 360 arrive as early as Saturday, playing them at will (as is their right). Thieves of the game - those picking up the game through early downloads without paying - have been experiencing full console bans from Xbox Live.

Grand Theft Auto V has been the talk of the gaming town for months now, and speculation is continuing to build as we get closer to the game's release date.
