BlackBerry X10 QWERTY touch smartphone leaked in single white-case photo

There appears to be a whole new double-down in the BlackBerry 10 universe this week with a leaked image of what's being called the BlackBerry X10. This device sits in a photo near the BlackBerry Z10 all-touch smartphone as well as the BlackBerry Dev Alpha C smartphone given to 1,500 developers earlier this year. This photo is fairly clear, but of course completely unofficial and unconfirmed by RIM.

BlackBerry 10 jumps the shark with tiered service fees

Those of you out there with a BlackBerry device know better than anyone that the platform carries with it not just support from the carrier, but from teams of restless developers and software heroes working with RIM, as well. This week at their third-quarter 2012 earnings call the heads at RIM released information on how BlackBerry 10 will deal with the Service Fees that are associated with RIM offering support to users all along their contracts with carriers - and the news is not being received well.

Porsche Design P’9981 gets black re-spray (keeps crazy price)

Porsche Design and RIM have resurrected the P'9981, the expensive love-it-or-hate-it smartphone that redresses BlackBerry 7 in an angular metal suit, this time in black. The new P'9981 Black has the same touchscreen and QWERTY combo as the silver version we reviewed back in February, as well as a 5-megapixel camera embedded in a leather-covered back, but Porsche Design claims the matte finish case is actually more in keeping with its racing car heritage than the original.

Nokia and RIM ink patent agreement after anti-BlackBerry WiFi ruling

Glad-tidings, peace, and goodwill: Nokia and RIM have gulped down some of the festive spirit, announcing a patent license agreement which has the holiday bonus of settling all ongoing legal action between the firms. The deal, specifics of which are being kept confidential, will involve RIM shelling out a one-time lump sum and then making ongoing payments to its new Finnish friends.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: December 20, 2012

RIM Q3 2013 Earnings show customer loss and profit gain

RIM Q3 2013 Earnings show customer loss and profit gain

Whatever works, they always say, and thus it is with RIM's newest earnings call in which they've got a profit showing in their 2013 fiscal third quarter, but appear to have indirectly payed for it with a loss of subscribers. One of the big reasons the company that'll soon be delivering BlackBerry 10 showed a profit of $14 million (3 cents a share) this quarter was a tax settlement, but compared to just one year ago, even this profit is paltry. One year ago this same quarter, RIM posted a profit of $265 million (51 cents a share).

BlackBerry Z10 smartphone leaks with two color combos

This afternoon it would appear that a brand new BlackBerry 10 handset has been leaked with a couple of images, one of them in an all-black setup, the other with a black bezel and a white body. This handset will be one of several (if it turns out to be legitimate) that's revealed at the BlackBerry 10 event on the 30th of January, 2013. This month will be full of mobile madness galore as we've also got CES 2013 to go to and Mobile World Congress coming up in February as well - weeks of goodness!

BlackBerry 10 gets vote of confidence in UK (including 4G model)

BlackBerry 10 may not have convinced the analysts or the market yet, but RIM's new platform has at least secured itself some space on UK shelves, with the key operators confirming they'll be offering the first devices come 2013. EE - plus combined brands Orange and T-Mobile UK - have thrown their lot in with BlackBerry 10 (including confirming that there will be 4G support), as well as O2 and Vodafone, while Three has also confirmed it will have RIM's next-big-hope in its stores.
