Sean Kinkade Park Hawk Ornithopter reminds us that Da Vinci had it right

, Jan 27th 2012 Discuss [0]

There's nothing quite like a lazy afternoon flying your remote-controlled airplane, helicopter, or in this case, ornithopter, around the back yard. The airwaves are aflutter today as everyone outside the RC circuit realizes that not only are ornithopters a reality now for at-home enthusiasts, they've been around for over a decade. The video you're about to see, in fact, features an original model Sean Kinkade Park Hawk, originally released all the way back in 1993 and purchased just this week by RC lover, Nuvaero Flight System's Robert Eaton. Swann RC helicopters with iPhone controls, mounted cameras released

, Jan 4th 2012 Discuss [1]

This week the folks at Swann have let loose information about three completely different remote controlled helicopters, each one more impressive and strange than the last. The first is the Sky Eye, which as its name suggests, has the ability to record flights with video or still photos to its built-in 512MB memory. Next there's the i-Fly Micro Lightening which can be controlled from your iPhone with a free app provided by Swann. Then there's the Black Swann which, like the Sky Eye, is able to record media, but here you've got a "stealth" helicopter instead of a "military." Read The Full Story

, Nov 24th 2011 Discuss [0]

When it comes to radio-controlled miniature vehicles, essentially everything has been done over the past couple of decades – but low and behold, citizens, there is more to be done, and the tiniest of intelligences is going to do it: the TankBot. What we’ve got here is a couple of TankBots, both of them of the same lovely two tracks and one big ol’ windshield model, and a smartphone per machine that’ll control them from on high. What you’re going to see here is that for under $30 USD, you can have such a tiny explosion of fun that only your dog will know for sure.

Hacked RC car sent to soldier in Afghanistan saved lives

, Aug 8th 2011 Discuss [6]

This is one of the coolest hacks I have ever heard of. A guy named Ernie Fessenden built a cool RC truck to send to his brother serving in Afghanistan named Sergeant Chris Fessenden. Ernie built the hacked RC truck out of an off the shelf Traxxis Stampede RC truck combined with a smallish camera mounted to the hood of the truck. Read The Full Story

Remote controlled car controlled by Kinect or iPad

, Apr 4th 2011 Discuss [1]

I really like remote controlled cars, they are lots of fun. I know a lot of other geeks do too. I particularly like it when other people take a RC car and hack them to use controls they were never meant to have. A new RC car control hack has surfaced that uses one of two control methods. Hammacher Schlemmer offers RC Bald Eagle to terrorize your neighborhood

, Mar 9th 2011 Discuss [0]

This is one of the coolest RC toys I have seen in a long time. The 9.5-foot wingspan flying machine looks like a Bald Eagle. This is the only Bald Eagle you can crash and play with without being arrested. Obviously with the thing selling at Hammacher Schlemmer you can bet it's crazy expensive. Read The Full Story

MicroFly Tiny R/C UFO makes for super small fun

, Apr 21st 2009 Discuss [0]

If you're one to indulge in a semi-useless gadget every now and again, you'll be delighted to hear that you can now get your hands on the MicroFly Tiny R/C UFO for a real bargain. Not to mention, it's just plain cool. This little toy is really small and hovers around for your amusement. With just a 10-minute charge, the gizmo will fly around for between 5-7 minutes. Featuring a single propeller, this little UFO spins around in the air and has a flashing blue LED light. To control it, all you have to do is slide the control up and down. That's all there is to it. You can use more than one MicroFly on the same remote, however, so you could control your own little UFO army. The only drawback is that they require 6-AA batteries. You can get the MicroFly Tiny R/C UFO now for $19.99.
