We heard about an ambitious new project from the gaming experts at Razer even before CES started, but a staggered release kept us away from their ostentatious booth until now. The “Project Fiona” concept device is a full x86 Windows 7 computer squeezed into a tablet device. Two things make Fiona unique: one, it’s a tablet built wit the PC horsepower for serious modern gaming, and two, its unique control mechanism pairs physical buttons and triggers with a full touchscreen.

Those handles you see on the side aren’t just for show – they’re mounted into the Fiona via a metal frame, with space between the handles and the primary hardware unit for your fingers. Controls consist of dual analog sticks on both sides, four action buttons and two trigger buttons, effectively replicating console controls. The hardware on display is unfinished and under glass – Razer says’ they’ll evaluate their customers’ response and decide whether to bring it to market sometime this year.

Details on the hardware are sketchy: the machine runs on an i7 processor, but a Razer representative wouldn’t elaborate on what kind of GPU it was running. However, he did say that they’ve been working with Intel on the project for month,s which leads me to believe that it might just be using a next-generation version of Intel’s integrated graphics. At the Ultrabook presentation just before CES, Intel teased massive gaming improvements on its ultra-low voltage processor. For the record, this is pure speculation.

Razer will include its own Steam-style game manager, but since the Fiona runs Windows (or any x86-based operating system, really) you can load up anything you want. The demonstration unit wasn’t running anything special, but a representative said that it worked great with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a recent and relatively intense game. Razer doesn’t know if it will bring Fiona to market or not, but if it chooses to do so, it could hit in late 2012 or early 2013.

Razer has delivered on its gaming tablet tease, revealing Project Fiona at CES today. A sub-$1,000 Windows 8 slate that could potentially launch in Q4 2012, Project Fiona packs a third-gen Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor and a hybrid user interface with a pair of integrated game controllers with analog sticks, each of which offers force feedback.

Because it’s a Windows system, all regular PC games are supported and no special optimization is required. With accelerometers and an extra-sensitive multitouch screen, though, tablet-specific titles can also be played, giving mobile gamers the best of both worlds. Razer expects developers to tailor titles just to suit the combination of hardware on offer.

“The user interface we have designed for Project Fiona allows all existing PC games to be played right out of the box and also provides game developers new opportunities as they develop next-gen games on a highly-intuitive platform” Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said of the slate. ”Both developers and gamers are going to love the new user interface that combines the best of a gamepad, multi-touch screen and accelerometers for an all-new gaming experience on-the-go.

Developer units will be available “soon” with Razer suggesting that those interested in porting a significant title to Project Fiona should get in touch.

Unfortunately for rich gamers everywhere, Razer’s Blade laptop isn’t available for general sale yet. But they’re showing off the insane hardware at CES, and we couldn’t resist swinging by for a look at that integrated video touchscreen. The customizable screen adjusts for supported games, and works as a secondary display or trackpad for other uses.

Razer’s solid build and restrained bling styling are present in all aspects of the Blade – you might mistake it for an uper-class business notebook when closed. Open it up and its gaming intentions become clear, with backlit keys, macros and of course the additional module. Above the touchscreen are ten OLED keys that adjust based on the game or function of the touchpad, and you can manually assign keys or macros for games without official support.

The laptop itself is big and heavy, as you’d expect. It’s got an appropriately expensive feel with tough plastica all around, and Razer accents where you’d expect the normal HP or Dell logos to go. Even the default screen for the touchpad is a Razer logo, which in this context looks pretty good. The keyboard was great for typing, with the instant response you’d expect from the company’s products.

On the inside you get the latest Intel Core i7 mobile processor running at 2.8Ghz, paired to 8GB of DDR3 memory. The graphics are handled by Nvidia’s GeForce GT 555M with an addition 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Storage comes from a 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive, and the fruits of your gaming dollar wil look good on a 17-inch 1920×1080 LED backlit screen. The Blade can be yours for a wish, a prayer and $3000 American, and it should start shipping in the first quarter.

The gaming world sat up and took notice when Razer released its Blade gaming laptop with a built-in video touchpad and assignable buttons. Now they’re showing off a more conservative desktop keyboard with the same features, and themed it for the ultra-popular Star Wars: The Old Republic massively multiplayer online game. We checked out Razer’s CES booth for a quick demonstration.

The video touchscreen hangs out on the right side of the keyboard, where the number pad would normally be. The low-resolution screen is a laptop-style touchpad when not in active use, with a series of ten buttons on top with tiny OLEDs embedded in them. The buttons change depending upon which app you’re using on the keyboard at the time – for example, in the browser or YouTube app, you get the basic back/forward/reload navigation buttons. The profiles can be changed for each game or application.

The standard Razer bells and whistles apply to the rest of the keyboard, including backlit keys with comfy switches. Your settings aren’t saved to internal memory as in previous models, but are synced to Razer’s cloud service for your LAN party. The Razer Star Wars: The Old Republic gaming keyboard will retail for $250, and a representative said it would be available later this month.

Razer, known for its high-end gaming peripherals, including headsets and keyboards, is beginning to branch out in other areas of gaming. More specifically, Razer has decided to tackle the laptop market. The Razer Blade laptop, which has been delayed until late-January, may not be the only gaming device Razer offers.

On Razer’s PC Gaming Is Not Dead website a teaser trailer has been posted with the title “Project Fiona”. The video includes gameplay from Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Firefall with the promise of “PC gaming on an all-new form-factor”. However, with the steep price point of $2,799 for the Blade, whatever Razer has up their sleeve now, you can expect to be shelling out what equates to a mortgage for the device.

Perhaps Razer is finally releasing their gaming netbook, like the Switchblade. A desktop to go with their Blade laptop could be another route they decide to take. Whatever it is, as stated in the video, we must wait until January 10th at CES to get an unveiling.

Gaming device manufacturer Razer has confirmed it will be offering pre-orders on its $2,799.99 Blade uber-notebook within days, with the laptop – that has a touchscreen for easier in-game control – expected to ship in time for Christmas. There’s also been a quiet feature change, CEO Min-Liang Tan informed Kotaku, with a 256GB SSD taking the place of the originally specified 320GB HDD.

Otherwise specifications remain the same, which means a 17-inch display, 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-2640M processor, and 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM. Graphics are courtesy of NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus, paired with their own 2GB of GDDR5 video memory.

More interesting, however, is the compact touchscreen that lives to the side of the backlit keyboard. That works as a secondary display and as a shortcut panel, supporting multitouch gestures, and is topped by ten user-programmable buttons each with their own display, similar to what the Optimus Popularis delivers.

Thieves really suck; I think most of us will agree with that. There are few things worse than people who take the things other people work hard to make or buy in my book. You might recall the sweet Razer Blade hybrid gaming notebook that broke cover a while back. The big feature of this gaming notebook was the touchscreen on the right where the boring number pad would normally be.

Razer has announced that on the weekend of November 4 unknown persons or person broke into their San Francisco Bay research facility and made off with a pair of prototype Blade machines. Razer is asking for the help of the geek hoards with finding and getting these laptops returned. The company also asks that you don’t buy these machines online or anywhere else if you run across them.

The machines are stolen property and Razer is working with the police to find the thieves and to secure the return of the machines. If you have any information on the theft or whereabouts of the stolen machines, Razer wants you to contact them at cult@razerzone.com.

“As you can imagine, the return of these prototype units is very important to the company,” according to a Facebook post. “We have already reported this to the authorities who are working closely with us on this matter.

“We take this act of theft seriously and would like to appeal for its return and discourage anyone from buying the Razer Blade prototypes from the perpetrators, whether online or otherwise, as they are stolen property.”

Razer has been producing top computer and console peripherals for years now. The last time we talked about Razer was when the firm unveiled the Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick last month. This month Razer is showing off its new take on storing things on the cloud with Synapse 2.0. Synapse is the programming software that Razer has used for macros and game profiles.

Typically the profiles and mappings are either stored on the peripheral or on the local computer. Razer figures that there will be some gamers out there that will benefit from having more profiles than you can fit on the memory inside keyboards and mice. This is the gamer that Synapse 2.0 is aimed at. Synapse 2.0 is up for beta right now and you can apply to test.

Using the new software there will be no need for memory on the peripherals any longer. All the settings and storage will be place on the cloud. The only downside I can see is that a loss of web connectivity would seemingly mean no profiles for offline gaming. The new software will be rolled out first to select users running the Razer Naga. Full availability will be Q4 2011 according to Razer.

Razer is well known for making some really cool gaming accessories for computers and game consoles. The latest project that is underway at Razer is the new Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick. It looks like a joystick off an 80′s arcade game for sure. It has a big joystick with a black knob along with eight colored buttons. The design you see in the photos is not finalized.

Razer is actually asking people to apply to join the closed beta program for the designing of the Xbox 360 arcade stick. Razer is looking for pro gaming teams to test out the arcade stick for them and help shape what the final product will look like and work like. Razer is also opening the beta design phase to the average gamers out there.

Any gamer can apply to be part of the program. There will be up to 500 arcade stick pro gamers, modders, and fans that will be sent a prototype of the joystick, that as of now has no official name. The feedback will be used to refine the design. You can apply to be part of the beta team here.

Razer has long been known for their stylish gaming peripherals, but the company has now introduced its first ever gaming notebook, dubbed the Blade. The 17-inch laptop is meant as a desktop replacement and takes some styling cues from the 17-inch MacBook Pro with an aluminum unibody. However, it actually beats the Apple laptop in thinness.

It also manages to be black, which is a color that Apple couldn’t seem to achieve with its MacBook Airs despite rumored attempts. Inside, the Razer Blade features a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-2640M processor, 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology, and 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory. It also has a built-in HD webcam with a 320GB (7200RPM) SATA HDD.

But what stands out the most is an integrated LCD touchscreen to the right of the keyboard that doubles as both a secondary display and a multitouch trackpad. It also includes 10 customizable shortcut keys that have their own displays. For all this gaming goodness, however, you will have to pay a hefty price. The Razer Blade will retail for $2,800 and is set to launch later this fall.

Razer has confirmed that its Switchblade gaming notebook will be the first device to use the Intel Atom Z690 processor. The Switchblade – announced at CES 2011 earlier this year, though at the time billed as merely a concept – will use the 1.7GHz chip to run its 7-inch multitouch-capable display and dynamic keyboard, which can change key-legend to suit whatever title is being played.

According to Intel, the Z690 is 13-percent more powerful than its predecessor, the Z670 Oak Trail chip found inside the Fujitsu Lifebook TH40/D and other tablets. That’s sufficient for desktop-style PC gaming on a portable device, the silicon company insists, and it appears to be using the Switchblade to prove that.

Razer still insists on describing the Switchblade as a concept, despite having already signed up independent software vendors – including Chinese firms Tencent and ChangYou – to develop custom keyboard support for the button displays. “Our work with Intel allowed us to not only optimize the performance of the hardware on this concept device,” Razer now says, “but also lay the foundation for future products that will fully utilize the innovative technologies first developed on the Razer Switchblade concept.”

When, exactly, those future products will arrive is unclear, but with a processor now named we’d assume they’ll drop sooner rather than later. After all, Medfield is set to arrive reasonably imminently to replace Oak Trail.

The gaming geeks over at Razer have been making some of the best computer peripherals like mice and keyboards for gamers for a number of years now. The company has more recently taken to releasing special edition mice rather than completely new designs. The favorite mouse to get the custom collector’s edition touch from Razer is its DeathAdder mouse. In fact, the last time we talked about the DeathAdder it was getting dressed up in Dragon Age II livery.

Razer is back and that DeathAdder mouse is getting dressed up for fans of the Transformers franchise. The mice are for the tie in to the new flick that opens this week in theaters everywhere. The DeathAdder comes in both Autobot and Decepticon versions with the good guy mice in red for Optimus Prime and yellow for Bumblebee. The bad guys are in silver for Megatron and purple for the new baddies that pop out of the dust on the moon.

All of the mice have the same 3.5G sensor and 3500dpi sensitivity. You can pick up any of the four designs for $69.99 each. To complete your Transformers desk swag you can also get a Transformers Vespula dual sided gaming mouse pad with Optimus on one side and Megatron on the other for $44.99. Razer also has a line of laptop sleeve cases in Transformers style for $49.99 each.

We can thank the Nintendo Wii for bringing motion controllers to the masses. I still think that motion control was a bit gimmicky, even if it is fun. I think that the gaming masses have spoken though with sales of the Wii slipping significantly and the Xbox 360 selling in larger numbers. Still, some people want motion controls and if you are one of the gamers that do you can soon get your hands on a new motion controlled gaming setup from Razer called the Hydra.

Razer is one of the biggest names in gaming peripherals and has been making some really cool gear like the special DeathAdder mouse that I talked about back in early March. The new system is called the Razer Hydra and it is the first gaming grade motion sensing system powered by Sixense designed for PC gamers. Razer says that it worked with Valve and Sixense to create some cool Portal 2 content to show off how powerful the Hydra really is.

“The Razer Hydra is a significant step forward for the PC gaming industry because it not only affords an almost-physical experience for gamers, but also presents developers an opportunity to innovate and significantly push the boundaries on new forms of game play and entertainment,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. The Hydra and Portal 2 bundle sells for $139.99 and pre-orders will kick off next month. The Hydra will ship in June. It has an it uses magnetic motion tracking to give six degree-of-freedom, has a thumb analog stick for fluid control, and lots more.

Razer has been unveiling lots of special edition mice and keyboards over the last few months. The latest of these special editions is a mouse to go along with the Dragon Age II video game for serious fans of the title. The mouse has all the specs that we know and love from the normal DeathAdder with a red dragon on the top of the mouse and the red II.

If you aren’t familiar with the DeathAdder, the mouse is a 3.5g infrared sensor gaming mouse that is designed for low resolution gamers. The mouse has 3500dpi sensitivity and is designed to be used in the right hand. That means lefties will be left out. The mouse has all the other features we expect from Razer gear like 1000Hz ultrapolling and hypresponse buttons.

The mouse has five buttons that are programmable and the sensitivity can be adjusted on the fly during your game. The DeathAdder can withstand movement speeds of 60-120 inches per second and 15G of acceleration. The cable is 7-feet long and braided to last for a long time. The special edition mouse is shipping soon for $69.99.

Razer’s DeathAdder gaming mouse has been around for a long time now. This mouse is designed for the gamer doesn’t like high-sensitivity and laser technology used in most of the gaming mice on the market today. The DeathAdder Black Edition uses a 3.5G infrared sensor and has a maximum sensitivity of 3500dpi.

The sensor promises precision and is perfect for the type of game that likes to make larger hand movements while getting their frag on. The new Black Edition is a limited edition mouse that has all the same features of the original in an AC/DC approved solid black color scheme.

The mouse has a right hand only design and uses 1000Hz ultrapolling to limit lag. The sensitivity can be adjusted on the fly and the mouse can withstand 15g of acceleration and process 60-120 inches per second. The DeathAdder Black Edition will cost you $59.99 and it is shipping right now.

Gaming peripheral manufacturer Razer knows that CES wouldn’t be the same without some slick concept to drool over, and their Switchblade gaming laptop is a great example of the breed. Switchblade is based around a 7-inch multitouch display and a keyboard that can dynamically change to show different legends and symbols depending on what title you’re playing, complete with WiFi and 3G connectivity.

Video after the cut

At its heart, Razer reckons the Switchblade would have a new Intel Atom processor, along with mini HDMI, USB 3.0 and audio in/out ports. Owners would be able to create their own custom keyboard layouts, which would change between games, and the keys could support static images as well as animations.

Unfortunately this is all just a concept, though Razer’s press release does say they have physical hardware on show at CES 2011; you know we’ll be digging it out as soon as we can. Still, the company does say it will be “working with selected partners to design and launch products based off the Razer,” so something similar might eventually find its way to market.

Press Release:

Razer™ Announces New Mobile PC Gaming Concept Design

The Razer Switchblade powered by the Intel® Atom™ processor redefines Mouse/Keyboard Interface for mobile gamers with an all new ultra-sensitive multi-touch screen and dynamic tactile keyboard

Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, Nevada – January 6, 2011 – Razer, the world’s leading brand of high-end precision gaming products announced today the development of an innovative concept design, based on the Intel® Atom™ processor, bringing traditional PC desktop gaming to a portable form factor.

The new Intel® Atom™ powered concept model, codenamed “Razer Switchblade”, brings an evocative level of design to gaming by replacing the traditional mouse and keyboard interface with an ultra-sensitive multi-touch screen, dynamic tactile keyboard, and an intelligent user interface that adjusts the configuration and key layout on-the-fly based on game content and user requirements.

The Razer Switchblade concept was created from the ground up by Razer designers and engineers, in collaboration with Intel; focusing on enhancing the entire user experience of playing the extensive PC game library on a handheld device.

“The main problem with mobile PC gaming so far is that no one has been able to port the full mouse and keyboard experience onto a small size portable solution,” said Min-Liang Tan, CEO and Creative Director, Razer. “By combining adaptive on-the-fly controls and display, we managed to maintain the full tactile keyboard in a miniature computer while saving valuable screen estate.”

“PC Gaming continues to attract innovation with rich 3-D graphics, high definition video, and life-like animation,” said Brad Graff, director of gaming platforms for Intel’s Ultra Mobility Group. “The Intel® Atom™ processor, combined with Razer’s expertise in bringing gaming solutions to market, will help make it possible for consumers to have a powerful gaming experience in mobile devices.”

“With our established focus on human interface devices, moving the mouse and keyboard experience to the next level was a natural step.” continues Min-Liang Tan. “Razer isn’t just about bringing innovation to the PC, but creating products that will change the future of gaming. The Razer Switchblade is one such product.”

About the Razer Switchblade Concept

The Razer Switchblade Concept is a breakthrough portable gaming device model that allows gamers to play on the go without giving up the precision and control ordinarily possible on a desktop gaming system. Integrating a multi-touch seven-inch screen and an innovative tactile dynamic keyboard, the Razer Switchblade Concept delivers the full desktop experience in a netbook sized solution.

When it comes to PC gaming the hardware and peripherals you use can make all the difference. The Razer brand is a favorite among the hard-core gamers that like high sensitivity mice and cool gaming keyboards. Razer also offers all sorts of other gear for gamers like mouse pads.

When it comes to mouse pads, they are not all created equal. Some like a cloth mouse pad and others like hard and very slick mouse pads. The latest from Razer is the Scarab and it has a hard gaming mouse pad that uses a new Fractal 2.0 surface. The special surface is made to allow the mouse to track better for more accuracy.

The mouse pad also has an improved rubber base that is designed to help smooth out irregularities on the surface that the pad it sits on. The idea is to make the smoothest mousing surface possible. The Scarab also comes with a carry case to protect the pad to and from your LAN party. The Scarab will ship on January 1 for $39.99.

Remember those TRON: Legacy peripherals that Razer unveiled a few months back? If you thought that you could probably find yourself buying one this year, then you’ll be happy to know that Razer stuck with their fourth quarter estimates, and have officially launched the gaming mouse. It’s obviously a TRON-themed accessory, and sure enough, the lights on the accessory light up just as we would want them to.

The mouse is available now for purchase, and it will run you a cool $99.99 to get your hand on it. The mouse itself is pretty standard, but you can expect to find 5,500dpi, and 3.5g laser sensor. There are 7 “hyperresponse” buttons. And, as you can tell, it’s themed to look like it came right out of the TRON world. Those lights on the mouse do light up, and it even features sound effects.

For a long time if you wanted a gaming keypad to play your PC games with your only choice was Belkin and its line of popular Nostromo gaming keypads. These little one-handed keypads were designed to allow the PC gamer to shed the keyboard and use something smaller and more compact.

Razer and Belkin have worked together to develop a new version of that Nostromo keypad called the Razer Nostromo Gaming Keypad. The thing looks a lot like the old Nostromo gamers are familiar with but the new gaming keypad has the familiar Razer logo and blue backlighting. The Nostromo has an ergonomic form factor with 16-keys.

The Nostromo has 16 of the famous Razer Hyperesponse keys that can be programmed to anything you want them to be. The shape of the gaming keypad is designed to be more comfortable in the hand for long gaming sessions. The directional thumb pad is made for response and fast actuation and can be used for movement and as a modifier for expanding the functions on the keypad. The Razer software makes programming easy. The thing will ship on 11-29 and will sell for $69.99.

Razer is no stranger to the gaming market, and they’ve just unveiled a brand new gaming keyboard to add to the mix. This new ‘board is meant primarily for Massively Multiplayer Online and RPG titles, with inputs that are primarily aimed at MMO titles already installed. There are plenty of other included features along for the ride, which should make any gamer out there looking for a new keyboard give it a second look.

The Anansi keyboard is capable of executing seven times more commands than the standard keyboard you may be using right out of the box. You’ll find seven thumb modifier keys under the keyboard, which will help users quickly hit frequently hit keys, like the Alt key, or Control and Shift. As for the programmable keys, you’ll find 100 options here, all with Hyperesponse technology.

You’ll also be able to save 20 gamer profiles on the keyboard, with a single button that will let you switch them on the fly. You’ll be able to switch games whenever you want, and instead of having to go through any hassles of switching profiles, you can do all of that with one button. There are also dedicated multimedia buttons on the Anansi keyboard, and the keyboard features 18 million colors to backlight it. Razer will have the Anansi gaming keyboard ready to go by December, and you’ll be able to pick it up for $100.

Razer’s line-up of Naga gaming mice has seen plenty of additions since its debut, and now the company has seen fit to add yet another model to the lineage. As with any Naga gaming mouse before it, the new Naga Epic features 17 programmable keys along the side of the device, which provides plenty of customizable options for players of Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games.

Razer’s new Naga Epic gaming mouse is mainly a wireless accessory, but it does feature the ability to play in a wired mode if the battery dies. The 17 programmable buttons along the side support both commands and macros, and can be customized to fit the particular play style and needs of the gamer. Furthering the idea of customization, Razer has provided three interchangeable side panels for the new mouse, aiming for a more ergonomic fit for those long hours of play.

The mouse comes packaged with a 2.4GHz wireless dongle, and a charge dock that acts as the wireless receiver. The Naga Epic also features the ability to change the backlight color whenever you want. Razer says the battery should last you 12 hours of constant gaming, and you’ll be able to connect it to either a Mac or PC. You can pre-order the Naga Epic right now for $129.99, and it’s expected to ship by November 29th.

Razer has just released a new accessory for your mouse. If you’r an avid gamer, and you use your mouse far more than your standard mouse pad ever anticipated you to, then you’re probably in the market for a new one. That’s where Razer’s new Ironclad unibody aluminum mousepad comes in, which the company says features extraordinary tracking control.

Razer’s Ironclan new mousepad is manufactured from a single, solid aluminum body, which will prevent warping over time. The mousepad is also sandblasted, making sure that your mouse has the best surface to glide over, even for those gamers that prefer high-sensitivity. The anodized aluminum body means that the mousepad should be able to handle all of your gaming needs over the years, and even if you do have a fit of rage, the company says the Ironclad won’t show signs of wear and tear.

The Ironclad measures in at 320mm in length, 270mm in width, and 2.5mm in height, which should provide more than enough space for your mousing needs. You can pick up the new Ironclad right now if you want, as long as you’re ready to drop $59.99 for it. They area also offering same-day shipping, as long as you order by a specific time.

Razer has been making some slick and cool gaming peripherals for a long time now. Back in August, the company pulled the wraps off its latest gaming mouse with the Naga that has tons of buttons and was aimed at the MMO gamer. Razer has now announced a couple special edition Naga mice for gamers.

The new special editions include the Naga Maelstrom and the Naga Molten Special Edition. Functionally the two new special edition mice are the same as the original. They have 17 buttons that feature macro capability, 5600dpi resolution, and the color scheme of the special edition mice is much cooler than the plain black of the original.

The Maelstrom version has what Razer calls a “whirlpool of entrancing blue light” and has blue backlighting behind the buttons and the scroll wheel. The Molten edition has a cracked lava looking finish with red backlighting for buttons and the scroll wheel. Either of the special edition mice will set you back $79.99 and they will ship globally in November.

When it comes to keyboards, the mechanical variety usually provides the most travel between you pressing a key, and its input. That usually means a more “clicky” feel, and most people tend to prefer this type of keyboard. As of now, Razer’s line-up of keyboards, like the Lycosa and Arctosa, are scissor-switch keyboards, which means they don’t have the same kind of travel. But, Razer’s about ready to let loose their first variations of mechanical keyboards. Introducing the BlackWidow and BlackWidow Ultimate.

As you might imagine, the names suggest different features between the pair of keyboards. While they fall into the same lineage, you get what you pay for, as the old saying goes. Razer is saying that their new keyboards are the best mechanical keyboards out there, stating that the power required to press each key isn’t as terrible as other keyboards, the feedback given to the user is better, and that the depth of the actuation point isn’t terrible.

Features wise, you can tell from the image here that you get a pretty durable-looking keyboard. And, unlike most other mechanical varieties, the price tag isn’t too terrible. With the BlackWidow Ultimate version, you get illuminated keys and an extra USB port. You also get headphone and microphone jacks. So, for $80 you get a pretty normal keyboard, but for $130, you get plenty of extras to make the higher price tag make sense.

Apparently, if you’re a hardcore gamer, you’ve been missing out on the whole music scene that’s been going around for a little while now. And, if you’re a music enthusiast, you’ve completely skipped over this whole video game thing, obviously in an effort to better yourself. But! Thanks to Razer, a company previously focused solely on the gaming market, you can rest easy, as they’ve just announced their Orca headphones.

According to the company, this is their foray into the lifestyle audio world. Furthermore, the company designed the Orca headphones to focus on comfort and audio quality first and foremost, but also give the ability for gamers to enjoy them in their mindless fun, and then take them out into the world without sacrificing sound or comfort. And then there’s that Razer neon green color, which will either attract plenty of people, or make them run away with their eyes covered by their hands.

The Orca headphones are meant for the European region only, at first, with the company announcing that the headphones will appear in the market some time in the third quarter of this year. They’ll be priced at about 60 Euros, or £50. No word on an international release quite yet, but we can imagine that seeing these green headphones around here in the next few months won’t surprise us at all.

The new version of the Lachesis gets a better laser sensor with a new 3.5G laser good for 5600dpi resolution. The mouse is also redesigned visually and sports a customizable light system that lets the player choose the color of backlighting on the rodent.

Previously you had to choose a color when you bought. The mouse still features the 1000Hz ultrapolling Razer is famous for. The new Lachesis has nine programmable buttons and will sell for $79.99 when it launches. An exact launch date is unknown.

Razer has made some of the best gaming peripherals around for years now. The company tries to support smaller groups of gamers like Mac users along with the majority of PC users. Razer has announced a new mouse for a group of gamers that might be even smaller than the number of Mac gamers out there — lefties.

Typically, a lefty has to search for an ambidextrous gaming mouse or learn to play with their right hand. Razer has unveiled the first gaming mouse specifically for the left handed gamer called the DeathAdder Left Hand Edition. The mouse has all the features of the traditional right hand DeathAdder.

Features include 1000Hz ultrapolling, always-on mode, 3500dpi sensitivity, and on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment. The mouse has five programmable buttons and can track accurately at 60-120 inches per second with 15G of acceleration. The lefty edition is shipping now globally for $59.99.

It’s only been a couple days since the official announcement heard ’round the world: Valve is releasing Steam for Mac. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, one of the biggest reasons Mac users were running BootCamp on their systems has now come their way in a far more native approach. So, while everyone is clearing out their hard drives, Razer wants to make it perfectly clear that they, too, are going to start supporting the Cupertino-based hardware/software combo.

Razer announced today at the on-going Gamer Developer’s Conference (GDC) that they are going to issue drivers for Mac users, so that they can install and use all upcoming Razer accessories. But, just to make sure that their current customers aren’t given the shaft, they’re also releasing the driver software for previously released hardware as well. To confirm their diligence, they released the Mac driver for the Naga MMO mouse today, as well as the DeathAdder.

The company is one of the best when it comes to gaming peripherals. Devices like the Naga MMO mouse and Razer DeathAdder have become well known to the gaming universe. And now that Mac has some how launched itself out of the gaming afterlife, and shown that they are back in the game (pun intended), it’s no surprise that the peripheral manufacturers out there are going to jump on board as well. Welcome back, Mac. It’s been a long time coming.

Dedicated PC gaming accessories manufacturer Razer has teamed up with Sixense to bring motion-sensing peripherals to PC gaming. By means of a an electromagnetic field sent out from a transmitter, the two-controller set up is able to create a precise replication of on-screen movements. Furthermore, the technology can also support gesture-based commands, and more remarkably can detect position in space along six axes.

Engadget calls it “sort of like a Wiimote / Natal mashup, but just for PCs”. There is a demo of Left 4 Dead 2 to showcase the Razer Sixense Ultra Precise Motion Controller. CNet calls it “while there was a bit of a learning curve, the motion control was on point and accurate. We were able to rotate and slice a katana blade on screen, successfully decapitating a few zombies in the process. Shooting seemed a bit more intuitive and we were impressed with the satisfying degree of control the device offered”.

There isn’t a completed product yet nor a released price, but the device‘s availability has been confirmed for this year. For all those hopeful katana-wielding PC gamers out there.

Gaming notebooks are getting more powerful all the time making gaming with a laptop actually something that many gamers are able to do. The catch is that a track pad is not the way gamers want to control their characters on screen and a full size mouse kills some of the portability of a mobile gaming machine. You may recall back in July that Razer announced a new mobile gaming mouse called the Orochi.

The mouse wasn’t available to purchase when it was announced and Razer is now announcing that the mouse is shipping in limited quantities. Engadget has its mitts on a unit and spent some hands in time with the gaming rodent. The first impressions are that the device is a good mouse and the dual Bluetooth and USB modes are cool.

The mouse has an ambidextrous design, which many gaming mice lack today. The clicking scroll wheel is featured from other Razer mice and the device has six buttons. The mouse sells for $79.99 and works well for mobile gaming. In the end, Engadget figures you will want a full-size mouse for all night gaming fests. If you want one of the mice and stocks are out again, a signup sheet is available to be contacted when the mouse comes back in stock.

Over at Cologne, Germany, Gamescom is going strong, and companies like Razer are not letting the time slip by without some kind of announcement. In the case of Razer, they had a doozie lined up for this conference: a 17-key mouse, that looks like some kind of futuristic toy, which is called the Naga. It’s set to be used for Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games, but as you can probably already assume, it’s tailored for the largest of them all, World of Warcraft.

This USB-connected peripheral has a unique 12-button pad on the left-hand side of the mouse, lined up in a simple to use format, so that your thumb doesn’t have to travel all that far to press any one of the buttons. In addition, there’s the regular five buttons found on “normal” mice, which means there’s some semblance of a traditional piece of hardware in there somewhere. The mouse itself isn’t solely designed for MMOs, and can be used with any application that allows for button configuration of custom mouse buttons, as well as Razer’s own Windows software which can be used to map a wide array of shortcuts to very specific tasks.

We’d just like to say how unique this thing looks, and, if it’s not too crazy, attractive. Maybe it’s just the promotional pictures, but either way, we’re pulled in and can’t wait for this thing to ship, whenever it ships. At this point, Razer isn’t letting out anything other than “soon.” But, one good thing we can take away from this, is that it won’t cost you your left arm to get this peripheral. Just $80 will get you more than prepared for your next year-long campaign in WoW. Are you ready?

You know who likes money? Razer likes money, and the gaming peripheral maker has decided that the best way to make it is to milk enthusiastic StarCraft II gamers with a range of new hardware and this “distinctive” messenger bag. As well as the bag, the company promises a tournament-grade keyboard, mouse and headset “specially designed” for Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft II.

Said to be currently in the development phase, the peripherals will attempt to deliver both comfort and accuracy. They’re two elements you’d assume all gamers (in fact all computer users, for that matter) would demand, but StarCraft II players are obviously special.

No word on pricing or specific availability – just like the game itself, which is hovering in the rumorverse between late 2009 and early 2010 – for the three main peripherals from Razer. However the company will be flaunting their messenger bag at the BlizzCon gaming convention later this month.
