Nokia EOS vs Lumia 920 shows just how small true PureView got

Nokia's EOS PureView camera has cropped up in the wild again, now getting up close comparison-style with the Lumia 920 and showing just how little has changed from the front of the Windows Phone, at least. The new image, shared by perennial EOS tipster ViziLeaks, shows that the two handsets are largely identical, though the protruding camera bulge of the unannounced phone does tip it at an angle.

A new video showing the Nokia EOS PureView smartphone in action - right up close to what's expected to be a roughly 40-megapixel sensor - has leaked, further stoking enthusiasm about the high-resolution handset. The footage, shared by ViziLeaks, demonstrates the EOS' shutter and optical image stabilization in action, though the pre-production Windows Phone still lacks the labeling to confirm exactly what resolution the unannounced device captures at.

Nokia EOS leaks again teasing PureView camera prowess

Nokia's EOS camera-phone just can't stay under cover now the leaks have started, with the presumed PureView 41-megapixel smartphone cropping up in a new set of shell photos. The much-rumored handset - tipped to be a Windows Phone 8 device packing the same sort of super-high-resolution sensor as wowed on the 808 PureView - was spotted yesterday in yellow, and has now resurfaced in red at the WPXAP forums.

Nokia EOS 41MP Windows Phone hardware leaks [UPDATE: Lens up close]

Nokia EOS 41MP Windows Phone hardware leaks [UPDATE: Lens up close]

While earlier this week it was reported that AT&T was all but a lock as the first US carrier of the upcoming Nokia EOS device, the device itself hadn't yet been seen in physical form. Today several images have appeared showing how this machine will be a combination of forms. While the front and sides of this Nokia smartphone appear very much to be right along the lines of the Nokia Lumia 920, the back and its hump show its powers inherent: here lies the power of the original Nokia 808 Pureview.

AT&T Nokia “EOS” 41MP PureView Windows Phone tipped in testing

The application of Nokia's brand-name camera technology "PureView" is reportedly headed to AT&T in its original form, 41-megapixels strong and attached, this time, to Windows Phone 8. While the original 41-megapixel-toting Nokia 808 PureView was a smartphone running Symbian, here the Windows Phone version of the device is being tipped to hit the blue network with a "summer release" to its name.

Nokia smartphone chief teases Lytro-style “computational photography” up next

Nokia's push to differentiate its Lumia smartphones with PureView camera technology will see "computational imaging" - where shots can be tweaked and modified thanks to clever lens tech - come to the fore, smart devices chief Jo Harlow has teased. "Being able to capture even more data [is an area of exploration]" Harlow told DNA, "data you cannot even see with the human eye that you can only see by actually going back to the picture and being able to do things with them." The comments are already being seen as further evidence that array cameras from Nokia-invested Pelican Imaging could show up in Lumia devices sooner rather than later.

Nokia Lumia 928 Review

Nokia Lumia 928 Review

Now that Verizon has its own Nokia hero smartphone working with Windows Phone 8, it's high time the platform takes off, isn't it? At the moment, the Nokia Lumia 928 is one of the nicer Windows Phone 8 devices on the market, and if it weren't for the release of the Nokia Lumia 925 (having been revealed this month right on top of the 928), it'd be an easy thing to say that this is Nokia's finest effort to date with this OS. As it stands, this device is ready instead to be the heartiest Windows Phone 8 smartphone in the USA.

Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 Hands-on with PureView photo samples

This week we've gotten our first opportunity to have a peek at the high-end Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon, a device that takes Nokia's unique angle on Windows Phone 8 and brings it to the big red 4G LTE carrier. This machine works with 4G LTE / CDMA as well as HSPA+, this device prepared for global travel as Verizon devices are apt to do - more and more as the trend catches on, that is. This device is largely similar to the Nokia Lumia 920 released with AT&T earlier this year and has some distinct similarities with the other Nokia smartphone revealed in full this week: the Lumia 925.

Lumia Tablets, Ecosystems, and the Open Android Myth: Nokia’s Execs Get Blunt

Lumia Tablets, Ecosystems, and the Open Android Myth: Nokia’s Execs Get Blunt

Nokia can afford to put tablets and even phablets on the back-burner, relying instead on Microsoft's broader ecosystem to fill in the gaps in the Finnish firm's range, the company's top execs argue, though they concede both firms need to do better in explaining why that ecosystem is so special. Speaking to SlashGear at the launch of the Lumia 925 in London today, EVP of smart devices Jo Harlow and EVP of sales and marketing Chris Weber refused to be drawn on what big-screen smartphone and tablet plans Nokia might have on the drawing board right now, but each admitted that the next stage in the firm's recovery was explaining exactly how it was differentiated from rival phones. That includes clearing up the misconception that Windows Phone is closed while Android is open, Harlow says.

Got a Nokia Lumia 920? Give Amber a try before you upgrade to 925

Nokia Lumia 920 users tempted by the improved lens of the Lumia 925 and the new Windows Phone's broader ISO support should probably hold off before they trade in, with Nokia's photography chief Juha Alakarhu promising an incoming update will significantly narrow the gap between the phones. While all eyes are on the new Lumia 925 today, Nokia has a pleasant surprise for existing 920 owners, with confirmation that the Amber update due this summer will bring many of the improvements to the older device. Meanwhile, Alakarhu also explained why Nokia's burst-photo system is better than, say, HTC's Zoe approach, and why the Finnish firm would be happy to work on making it better.
