Sony: We won’t make PSP mistakes with PS Vita

Sony has admitted it made a mistake with how PSP games were handled, dropping the ball when the PS3 arrived, and insists that it will not make the same mistake the the PS Vita. ""In the past we launched PSP and then shifted our attention to PS3 when that came on the horizon, which we now concede was a mistake" Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida told the official PlayStation blog, "so with PS Vita we are working on this huge range titles and planning ahead for a constant supply of excellent games." Sony unveils new UMD Passport for PS Vita

The launch of the PS Vita is getting close for Japan even though it won't hit the US until next year. Gamers that plan to purchase the Vita that have a big library of UMD games from their previous PSP will be able to sign up for the UMD Passport program. Android, iOS overtake Sony PSP, Nintendo DS in US portable game revenue

According to new data from mobile analytics firm Flurry, Apple's iOS and Google's Android devices have now taken command of the US portable gaming market. Together, they control 58 percent of the industry's revenue in 2011. That's a huge jump from just two years ago when the Nintendo DS held 70 percent of portable gaming revenue. Read The Full Story

Sony PS Vita browser won’t support Flash at launch

According to a report from Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu, the web browser on Sony's next-generation portable gaming device, the PlayStation Vita, will not support Adobe Flash at launch. It will support cookies, JavaScript 1.7, and some HTML5, but Flash didn't make the list. Also not supported are Game Archives that include classic PlayStation One games. Read The Full Story

So, if you've been wanting to get a portable gaming console and you're not patient enough for the next-gen PS Vita, then at least wait until August 30, when this PSP deal hits store shelves. PSP-3000 Value Pack in new limited edition colors coming to Japan

Sony is offering up some PSP-3000 value packs in Japan as a bit of a last hurrah for the system ahead of the launch of the PS Vita. Considering the PSP-3000 hasn't sold in droves I don’t see a couple new colors being that big of a draw. The packs will land on July 28 in Japan and sell for 17,800 yen with tax included. Sony details UK PlayStation Network “Welcome Back” deal plus fraud protection

Sony has detailed its Welcome Back program to UK users of the PlayStation Network, sending out emails to subscribers explaining what fraud protection and other aspects they'll receive. Sony has warned gamers that the PlayStation Network will go offline today for several hours of maintenance, in preparation for the full service restore later on this week. Sony will miss its May 31 self-imposed deadline for full restoration of the PlayStation Network, instead promising to have all services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia - excluding Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea - active once more by the end of the week. The embarrassing, ongoing delay in Sony's home country is apparently due to more stringent information security mandates from the Japanese government; Sony has declined to comment on delays in other parts of Asia. Sony's restoration of the PlayStation Network continues, with Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand all set to get their online gaming and Qriocity streaming media back from tomorrow, Friday May 28.
