Minecraft: Story Mode hits PS4, Xbox One on October 13

Good news for fans of either Minecraft or the excellent narrative titles from developer Telltale Games, as the latter's Minecraft: Story Mode is now confirmed to see release on Tuesday, October 13th. While Mojang's Minecraft proper is well-known around the world, its sandbox-style gameplay means there's no real narrative for players. Telltale Games changes that, adding a detailed storyline to the universe across five episodes, much like how the developer released the critically acclaimed Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us games.

New PS4 controllers, hard drive covers come in plenty of colors

Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference was fairly low-key, but they still managed to make several hardware-related announcements. Along with PlayStation VR becoming the official name of the virtual reality gaming headset, and a new lower price for the PlayStation 4 console in Japan, Sony also revealed a handful of new colors for the Dualshock 4 controllers, along with an entirely new accessory: replaceable covers for the PS4's hard drive bay.

PlayStation 4 gets price drop in Japan

In addition to revealing PlayStation VR as the official name for their virtual reality gaming headset, Sony used its pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference to announce a new price for the PS4 console in Japan. The console currently sells for 39,980 yen (about $334) in the region, but starting on October 1st its price will be 34,980 yen ($292). This is the first official price reduction on the PS4 from Sony since the console launched, and it could mean similar price drops in other parts of the world in the near future.

PlayStation VR: Sony’s Project Morpheus gets official at Tokyo Game Show

Just a short time ago, Sony held its pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, where it formally announced its PS4-compatible virtual reality headset as the PlayStation VR. Previously known by the codename Project Morpheus, Sony's headset is still said to be scheduled for release sometime in "early 2016," however the Tokyo Game Show announcement didn't narrow that timeframe down. The most exciting part of the press conference, other than revealing the official name, is that PlayStation VR will be on the show floor later this week to try out.

Backwards Compatibility imminent on PS4

Several PlayStation 2 games have turned up on the PEGI ratings site as of this afternoon suggesting they're coming soon to PS4. Release on PlayStation 4 for these games will come almost certainly in the form of digital downloads. While similar titles are available for streaming play through Sony's PlayStation Now program, this will be the first set of made-for-PS2 games made available for download and local play for the PlayStation 4 gaming system.

Today the Destiny 2.0 update will begin arriving on your gaming devices. This update will bring a swath of new features to the game for all users, including higher level caps, attack power adjustments, and a set of adjustments for the new Light system. A new set of weapon changes is appearing as well, including higher base damage for Auto Rifles - for example. Year Two weapon lethality is being taken into account with Year One stat perks - the amount these perks buff your weapon stat has been reduced - meaningful trade-offs can commence.

On September 15th, the next big expansion to Destiny will see release. Titled The Taken King, it will of course feature a number of new player-vs-enemy (PVE) activities, including story missions, a raid, and lots of gear like weapons and armor. But it will also include new multiplayer content, like player-vs-player (PVP) maps and game modes. Destiny's developer Bungie has announced that starting September 8th, the week before The Taken King's release will see the new PVP content available for everyone to try for free.

PlayStation 4 gamers signed up and were selected to participate in beta testing the console's upcoming system software update will find that they are now able to download version 3.00 as of today. Along with this news, Sony has revealed what new features will be available for testing in the beta. One of the biggest additions is that PlayStation Plus members' cloud storage has been increased from 1GB to 10GB, along with new options for monitoring available space and auto-uploading for saved application data.
