Welcome to this week's edition of the SlashGear Week in Review. We had some interesting things going on in the tech world during the week. One of the interesting stories was the white iPhone and if it was thicker or not. Apple's Phil Schiller insists that the white iPhone is no thicker than the black one, but it does use a different sensor and camera design. The biggest news in the world this week was the fact that Osama Bin Laden was killed. One man unknowingly tweeted about the raid when it was going on mentioning a helicopter hovering, which wasn't usual. Read The Full Story

PlayStation Network stays offline as Sony discovers yet more issues

By now, Sony had hoped to have PlayStation Network users back online, gaming away merrily to make up for all that lost time. Unfortunately neither the PSN nor Qriocity media streaming services are functioning yet; according to Sony, they're "still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system." European PlayStation Network anti-fraud protection “close”

US PlayStation Network users (and those getting their streaming goodness from Qriocity) already know how Sony plans to protect their identity, thanks to a 12 month bundled subscription to Debix's AllClear ID Plus service, but European gamers will have to wait a little longer. Sony CEO apologizes for PSN breach: Free identity theft protection detailed

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has published a public letter of apology for the PlayStation Network hack crisis, announcing the first aspect of Sony's promised compensation for US PSN users and Qriocity subscribers. Sony is offering 12 months subscription to Debix's AllClear ID Plus service, which includes monitoring and surveillance of potential fraudulent activity, priority access to identity theft restitution services, and a $1m identity theft insurance policy per user. Will Crysis 2 ever see DirectX 11

For those that don't know much about Crysis 2, it is a futuristic first person shooter based in New York City. It is the highly popular sequel to the original Crysis that was released for PC only. For anyone that played it back when it was released the graphics were simply stunning. It brought my powerful quad core and my GTX 260 graphics card and computer to its knees real fast. Most gamers in the PC community were just as excited for Crysis 2 as I was, then we heard it would be launching across all 3 major platforms. This is where the DX11 discussion comes into play. The gory classic Mortal Kombat has gotten a complete reboot and may redeem itself since the franchise seemed to have lost its way over the years. Now with new publisher Warner Bros. on board, NetherRealm Studios has gone back to its roots and reinvented the latest Mortal Kombat with a welcome 2D-format that has all the modern graphics with the unapologetic carnage-fest of over-the-top fatalities that made Mortal Kombat great. PlayStation Network and Qriocity back online from this week; Compensation detailed

Sony has confirmed that it will begin a phased restoration of PlayStation Network and Qriocity streaming services this week, rolling out region by region, and bringing back newly-strengthened online gaming, music downloads, PlayStation Home access and more. Meanwhile Sony has also detailed its “complimentary offering and “welcome back” appreciation program” with which it hopes to sooth frustrated PSN users.

Sony moving PSN data center in hack response

Sony still refuses to detail the exact exploit used to hack the PlayStation Network and its Qriocity streaming service, but has admitted that as well as updating the software security of the network, it is physically "moving our network infrastructure and data center to a new, more secure location." The Sony Playstation Network or PSN has been offline for a while now. At first users were irritated that they weren't able to play online games and watch movies via Netflix. As the outage drug on things started to look worse with Sony hinting early on that the breach was believed to have been caused by a third party. There has been a lot of talk over the last few days about the breach of the PSN that took the PS3 network down and left players unable to play anything online. Even worse than not being able to play any online games is that Sony has finally admitted just about every detail that could have been stolen on the users of the PSN was grabbed. Sony defends sluggish PSN leak warnings; Some PSN services back “within a week”

After admitting that the personal details of the 42m+ PlayStation Network users have been leaked, Sony has argued that it couldn't warn subscribers of potential data loss when the system was first taken down because it took "outside experts" to confirm it. According to Nick Caplin, SCEE's head of comms, the delay involved in "forensic analysis" explains why it took the company so long to warn users that their information had been compromised. Sony pulled PlayStation Network over rampant piracy?

A new explanation for the ongoing Sony PlayStation Network downtime has been suggested, with claims that Sony has taken the service offline so as to close a loophole that had been responsible for "extreme piracy of PSN content." PSX-Scene's "Chesh" took to Reddit to outline how a new PlayStation 3 custom firmware called Rebug was used by hackers to gain access to the PSN's developer networks.
