Sony admits PSN hacked: No restore date in sight

Sony has admitted that "an external intrusion" is responsible for the PlayStation Network downtime, which began last week and has continued throughout the weekend. The exact nature of the attack has not been identified, but forced Sony to take both the PSN and its Qriocity media streaming services offline late on Wednesday evening. Work is now underway to rebuild the PSN with "additional security" according to a company spokesperson. Read The Full Story

PSN down for unknown reasons, Sony investigating

If you tried to fire up your PS3 and go onto the PSN last night and today, you have undoubtedly noticed that the network is down. This is an irritation to all PS3 users even if you don’t play games that require the network since many of them will constantly ask you if you want to connect to the network. I know Gran Turismo 5 nearly drove me crazy asking last night when I realized the network was down. The interesting part about this outage is that Sony apparently has no idea what caused it. PlayStation 3 Hacker George Hotz Donates $10k to EFF, Mocks Sony in Process

If you'll take the time to remember back a few days ago, a lawsuit between Sony and PlayStation 3 hacker George "Geohotz" Hotz ended in an agreement that Hotz would never again tinker with the game console or any other Sony product ever again. During the suit, Hotz had thousands of dollars donated to his name in order to hire legal defense so that he might have a fair shot at defending himself against the army of legal beans Sony had/has working for them. Sony Drops PS3 Jailbreaking Lawsuit

Sony has reached an agreement with PlayStation 3 hacker George "Geohotz" Hotz. They dropped their lawsuit in exchange for his promise to never again tinker with the game console or any Sony product. Hotz got into trouble after publishing an encryption key and software tools in January that let Playstation owners gain complete control of the game console, or jailbreak it. Sony Wins, LG To Return Seized PS3 Consoles And Pay Fine

Late last month we reported that LG had seized over 300,000 PS3s entering the Netherlands due to alleged patent infringements and earlier today reports suggested that LG could further seize PS3s already purchased. LG's Dutch attack on Sony and the PS3 continues; having already seen several thousand of the consoles siezed by customs officials in the Netherlands, LG has apparently won a court order that will supposedly allow them to confiscate new PS3 consoles already in Dutch homes.
