It's time for a new software update for your PS3 to land. According to the Official Playstation Blog, the PS3 will be updated to software version 4.0 this week. Exactly what day that update will land isn't offered, but it has to be in the next couple days. Sony says that the update is to prepare for the launch of the PS Vita in Japan.

GameStop reveals PS Vita accessories pricing
GameStop has unveiled all the pricing information for Sony's PS Vita next-gen portable along with the pricing of its official accessories. Those include various capacity memory cards, USB cables, docks, car adapters, and a starter kit. However, the device isn't set to launch in the US until February 22 of next year.

Sony accepting apps for PlayStation Suite dev program closed beta

The point of the PS Suite program is to allow the developers to make games and other apps that will run on the coming Vita portable console as well as Android devices. Sony PS Vita browser won’t support Flash at launch
According to a report from Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu, the web browser on Sony's next-generation portable gaming device, the PlayStation Vita, will not support Adobe Flash at launch. It will support cookies, JavaScript 1.7, and some HTML5, but Flash didn't make the list. Also not supported are Game Archives that include classic PlayStation One games.

PS Vita hits North America and Europe February 22 2012
The PlayStation Vita will go on sale February 22, 2012 in North America and Europe, Sony has confirmed, two months after the console arrives in Japan. The handheld – which features a 5-inch OLED touchscreen – will be priced at $249 for the WiFi-only model, and $299 for the 3G/WiFi version.
PS Vita to have 3G download limits and system-specific memory cards
Sony has confirmed in a recent interview with ASCII that it's upcoming PS Vita portable gaming console would have 3G download limits and that its proprietary memory cards would be system-specific. Although not completely unexpected, it's a bit surprising that the device will require a completely new memory card format that will not be compatible with any of Sony's other products.

PS Vita is region-unlocked confirms Sony
Sony has confirmed that the PS Vita will be region-free, meaning that gamers should be able to import the handheld and games for it from Japan where it will launch first. Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida revealed the spec tidbit on Twitter, though went on to caution against importing. Last week, it was revealed that the PS Vita would go on sale in Japan on December 17, though US availability has been pegged by retailers for only a couple of weeks after that.
