PS Vita hits 2.2 million sales, Sony to implement shift in marketing

Sony has shared the latest PS Vita numbers, revealing that the beleaguered handheld has achieved 2.2 million worldwide sales as of June 30. When we last checked in with the Vita back in May, it had sold 1.8 million, so were looking at a 400,000 unit gain in about two months' time. 400,000 sales in two months isn't terrible, but it could definitely be a lot better. Today Samsung used the MERL touchscreen table to show that Apple doesn't have much of a claim, before resting its case and asking the Judge to award it $421.8 million in the suit. Later in the day, we caught word that Judge Lucy Koh had asked Apple's counsel if they were smoking crack when they presented an extremely long document filled with witnesses they wanted to call for rebuttals. With the PS Vita currently struggling to find a significant audience, many people think that a price cut could help out a lot. After all, it worked for the 3DS, which was posting poor sales until Nintendo decided to drop its price six months after launch - once that happened, the 3DS began flying off the shelves. It appears that the worldwide mobile phone market is falling a little bit year-over-year, and the Motorola DROID RAZR HD might be launching sometime in October. Killzone: Mercenary announced as Vita exclusive at Gamescom

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified isn't the only console spin-off that will be exclusive to the PS Vita, as Sony's Gamescom press conference also treated us to the announcement of Killzone: Mercenary. Like most spin-offs, Killzone: Mercenary will be quite a bit different from the core Killzone franchise, as this time around you'll be playing as - surprise! - a mercenary working with both the Helghast and the ISA. This marks the first time in Killzone history that you'll be working alongside the Helghast (at least sometimes), so get excited Vita owners. Read The Full Story

PS Vita owners may currently be wanting for big ticket games, but that's all about to change with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified. Scheduled to hit sometime in November, Black Ops Declassified is a PS Vita-exclusive take on the immensely successful console game, and today during Sony's Gamescom presser, we got our first look at Declassified's gameplay. PSOne Classics hit PS Vita this month, PS Plus this year

Sony has finally announced when PSOne Classics will begin hitting the PS Vita, telling the audience at Gamescom that the first round of Classics will be arriving on August 28. That's exactly two weeks away, but don't expect them to show up all at once. Sony executives stand up for struggling PS Vita

It isn't exactly a secret that the PlayStation Vita has been struggling ever since it launched earlier this year. Though it's hard to get exact numbers out of Sony, weekly sales charts from Japan and monthly sales charts from NPD here in America don't paint a pretty picture - the Vita keeps slipping while the Nintendo 3DS is posting some sky-high numbers on occasion. This week the folks at Sony have let it be known that the game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, possible the biggest title for the console this year, will be popping up on October 23rd in the USA. This news also provides the dates for the majority of Europe, that being October 24th, and inside the UK, that being October 26th. This game is set to feature a litany of battle-ready characters from PlayStation-centric franchise games and will be Sony's great answer to the classic bash-festival that is Nintendo's Super Smash Bros., also set for a new version later this year. PS Vita gets old-school summer with PSOne gaming

If you’re a fan of Sony’s products then there’s some good news out of Japan: the next software update for the PS Vita, 1.80, will add the ability to play classic PSOne titles. Around 700 titles will be available to play, which isn’t a bad haul at all, but they’ll see staggered releases.
