Logitech were pretty proud of their K750 wireless solar keyboard, but AU Optronics is planning to best them at the upcoming FPD International expo with a 14-inch solar-powered touch keyboard solution for notebooks. Basically a touchscreen display for a virtual keyboard, integrated into a solar panel, the new tech will go on show alongside AUO's new 10.1- and 15.6-inch glasses-free 3D panels.

Pioneer Network Vision HUD video demo
Pioneer brought along its latest in-car technology to CEATEC 2010 this week, with a demo of their work-in-progress Network Vision HUD (head-up display). The system – which was being demonstrated to SlashGear Japan with screens showing the moving road ahead, and a partial windshield which you could peer through – projects animations, directions and general guidance glyphs onto the glass, overlaid on top of what’s happening in the real world.

Fujitsu Dual-Display phone prototype video demo
We can’t get enough of the dual-rotating action of Fujitsu’s double-screen concept smartphone, which SlashGear Japan caught up with at CEATEC 2010 this week. The prototype has a pair of huge 960 x 480 touchscreens which can be left in portrait mode as a lengthy flip-phone or twisted down into a broad clamshell.

Sharp Demonstrates 64-Inch Prototype LCD Display at CEATEC
CEATEC is happening right now in Japan, and will be an ongoing presence in the region for the next few days. It's another electronics trade show where companies all over the world can showcase their latest and greatest, as well as plenty of prototypes of things they'd love to get out into the market. Sharp managed to make the high-definition market shake a bit, as they successfully demonstrated a 64-inch LCD prototype display, featuring a resolution of 4096 x 2160.

Eurocopter X3 Hybrid Helicopter Adds Two Aircraft Wings to the Design
Helicopter manufacturers all over the world are trying to find ways to make the aircraft faster, and yet keep the ability to hover in tact. With designs and concepts out in the world, only a few companies have been able to get working prototypes up into the air. In the United States, United Technologies' unit Sikorsky is hard at work on their own prototype, called the X2, so it's no surprise that the largest civil helicopter manufacturer in the world, Eurocopter, is tossing their hat into the future-copter market. They officially unveiled their X3 prototype on Monday.

NEC PanelDirector IDs viewers & serves personalized adverts, Minority Report style
Minority Report may have tickled us with its floating multitouch displays, but it also warned us of what might happen when adverts start recognizing us. Unfortunately, it seems NEC didn't heed Tom Cruise, and has developed a new individual-recognizing system for their PanelDirector advertising system. The prototype can identify the age and gender of the people currently looking at the screens, and serve up contextually-suitable adverts.

Dell Inspiron Duo twisting net-slate gets new video demos
After its brief demo on-stage at IDF 2010 earlier this week, Dell's rotating Inspiron Duo netbook/tablet has stepped out for a slightly longer preview. The company is still keeping most details - and the prototype hardware, for that matter - close to its chest, refusing to discuss battery life or pricing, but at least we now have some close-up video of that slick converting mechanism.

Core Prototype Robot is All Legs, Can Lift up to 220 Pounds [Video]
Robots come in all shapes and sizes. And more often than not, prototypes are the main focus for most researchers for quite some time. Even when a robot is, for all intents and purposes just a pair of movable legs, the prototype stage is a necessity for developing it further, so that it can be utilized within any particular market. Researchers at fuRo, which is a division within the Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan, have put together a prototype called Core, which is designed to be able to carry, and move, a lot of weight.

Sony flexible e-paper display previewed
Sony has been demonstrating a large-scale flexible e-paper display, which could potentially pave the way to rollable, twistable ereaders. Details on the display are scant - the company brought it along to their 2010 Dealer Convention, according to AV Watch - but it's said to use a plastic substrate rather than the usual glass panel.

Acer dual-touchscreen proto leaks ahead of possible fall 2011 debut
Roll over Libretto; Acer is coming to town, and they're bringing dual 15-inch multitouch touchscreens to play. According to TechReviewSource, Acer is in the midst of development of the finger-loving behemoth you see sneakily photographed here; their source reckons it's packing a 2.67GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Windows 7.

Android-based landline phone renders are one thing, but Rockchip has been quietly beavering away at the real thing. Tucked away at IFA 2010 last week was the Rockchip Android phone, a desk-bound device which apparently supports both landline and 3G connections, can be used for video calls and browsing the web.

CUPP hybrid PC pairs always-on ARM chip with Core 2 Duo [Video]
Instant-on OSes aren't unusual these days on laptop computers, generally offering a fast-booting Linux based environment for basic multimedia playback, internet browsing and email that's separate from the core OS. However, CUPP Computing is taking a different approach; the Norwegian firm has created what it describes as a hybrid PC, the "Computicator", with a regular X86 processor for day-to-day tasks in Windows 7 together with a low-power ARM processor, both of which can access all the notebook's ports and peripherals.
