NEC NP216J-3D is a 3D-Enabled DLP Projector Unable to Play Blu-Ray 3D Movies

, Jun 1st 2010 Discuss [0]

We can't get away from this 3D thing, can we? It's everywhere. Well, at least we have a few years before it becomes so mainstream that it's downright necessary. Hopefully by then we won't need the glasses. This new 3D-enabled DLP projector from NEC Display Technologies won't help the no-glasses cause, and we wish we could say the glasses looked even a little bit stylish. But, as you'll see after the cut, you won't be winning any fashion shows with these on your face. Read The Full Story

3D pico-projectors gather steam: glasses-free by 2012

, May 26th 2010 Discuss [0]

It's 3D all round with pico-projectors these days, as the companies behind the pocketable display devices try to catch a hold of the 3D gravy-train.  Sydiant have taken the easy route for their SID 2010 demonstration this week, taping two regular pico's together with a polarizing film in each; viewers wearing standard 3D glasses see the projected image in three dimensions.  Meanwhile, Aiptek have confirmed that they're planning both glasses and glasses-free pico-projectors for launch over the next couple of years. , May 18th 2010 Discuss [1]

BeamBox have announced their latest pico-projector, and while we're still waiting for the company's MiLi Evolution iPhone-case-cum-projector to arrive, the Evolution R-2 should tide us over.  Based around a 40 lumen LCoS chip, making it one of the brighter picos we've seen, the R-2 has an integrated media player for photos, audio and video (like the Evolution R-1 we reviewed last year) together with both PC/Mac and A/V inputs. 360-degree iPhone 3GS gaming with laser pico-projector [Video]

, May 10th 2010 Discuss [1]

Smartphone gaming with accelerometer and digital compass control is great, but adding a pico-projector and making it a whole lot more immersive is, well, a whole lot better.  Soundkite took his iPhone 3GS, jailbroke it and hooked it up to a Microvision ShowWX pico-projector, allowing him to play games that are projected onto a nearby wall, ceiling or floor.  It's not the first time we've seen the laser pico-projector's focus-free abilities exploited in this way, but Soundkite's system gets bonus points for being DIY. , Apr 14th 2010 Discuss [0]

Optoma is one of those projector manufacturers that keeps popping up in our stream, and we're kind of glad about that. 22MP Display Wall for gigapixel images created [Video]

, Mar 23rd 2010 Discuss [0]

As the number of gigapixel images available increases - offering incredible detail from indecently high-resolution cameras - it seems all the more perverse to view them, as if peering through a keyhole, in your browser.  Over at the University of Tromsø in Norway they've come up with a better solution, though you'll need a pretty big kit box if you want to replicate it.  They've created a 22-megapixel display wall, made up of 28 projectors driven by 30 computers, which can display huge gigapixel images and respond to multi-point gesture control.
