Back in late 2013 we had our first opportunity to bring a magical experience to our living room with the PS4 game "PlayRoom." This game worked with the PlayStation 4 Camera, showing us our living room onscreen with augmented reality characters and objects galore. This week we've been given our first glimpse of what PlayRoom will look like in virtual reality, with Project Morpheus in 2016. These demos were the last part of the collection of early visions we were shown by Japan Studio, the same group of developers that made The PlayRoom.

Sony's virtual reality presentation this week at GDC 2015 was delivered to the public in several tiers. First there was the Project Morpheus release date and updated specifications for the headset. That bit was revealed during a press conference. Then came the demoes and the data on what's next. That came in a developer-aimed talk that we're about to show you the juicy bits of right this minute. Here we've seen some of the awesome possibilities with Sony's VR headset Project Morpheus - some of the best of which include Augmented Reality interactions with your PS4's controller, the DualShock 4.

Sony promises VR will be showcased at PlayStation Experience

In case you missed it, Sony has a big community event planned for its gamers this coming December. The company has been teasing this event in bits and pieces, dangling precious few details amidst big promises that things will be spectacular. We recently found out about ticket availability and pricing, and now that sales have started, Sony has again taken to its blog with some promises. Among the tech and events attendees can expect to see at the PlayStation Experience, as it's called, is the company's virtual reality technology.

One of what we must assume will be a series of meetings around the world with developers and prospective collaborators has been tapped in London for Sony’s Project Morpheus. Morpheus is a device that allows eye and ear immersion in a PlayStation 4-based virtual reality, this system shown off for the first time this year at GDC, the Game Developers Conference in California. This first meeting will be held with the Develop group in Soho, London.

Today Sony has processed and uploaded the entirety of their GDC 2014 presentation for Project Morpheus to the web. The world is now able to see what those present saw during what Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios Sony Computer Entertainment, suggested was a very "cryptic" Sony presentation. "You have no idea what we’re going to talk about," said Yoshida, launching into a presentation that’d go on to swallow the conference for the rest of the week.

While it would seem that virtual reality is going a bit social on one side of the equation, the Project Morpheus at Sony continues to gain gaming steam. Here we’re seeing the developers at Slightly Mad Studios extend their love for virtual reality to Project Morpheus. What this means in practice is that once the game is out for PlayStation 4, it’ll also (eventually) be ready for use with Sony’s virtual reality headset.
