PlayStation VR games debut, prepping for 2016 launch

At the PlayStation Experience event over the weekend, Sony and its partner game developers revealed their play to once again wrest the attention away from the Xbox One and its backwards compatibility feature and back to the PlayStation. And while there were quite a handful of exciting teasers, including the long overdue Final Fantasy VII remake, one of the highlights of the event is a new, and somewhat risky, venture for Sony. The PlayStation VR seems to be shaping up quite nicely, and to prove that it's on track for a 2016 release, 8 new titles for the VR gaming headset and platform were teased.

PlayStation VR: Sony’s Project Morpheus gets official at Tokyo Game Show

Just a short time ago, Sony held its pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, where it formally announced its PS4-compatible virtual reality headset as the PlayStation VR. Previously known by the codename Project Morpheus, Sony's headset is still said to be scheduled for release sometime in "early 2016," however the Tokyo Game Show announcement didn't narrow that timeframe down. The most exciting part of the press conference, other than revealing the official name, is that PlayStation VR will be on the show floor later this week to try out.

That dinosaur game works in VR with Oculus Rift

ARK: Survival Evolved is announced to be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam for PCs with Oculus Rift support. This game was first revealed in incognito mode earlier this month, and just this week was shown to the public with support for virtual reality headsets. Thus far Project Morpheus for PlayStation 4 and Oculus Rift by Oculus VR have been confirmed. Whether or not Valve's own Steam VR will work with the system is still up in the air. We're guessing that YES, it probably will work - and there'll be dragons, too!

“ARK: Survival Evolved” lets you ride a dinosaur in VR

The dinosaur-filled "ARK: Survival Evolved" MMO has been announced today with plans for virtual reality involvement on PlayStation 4. This game will be played from a first-person perspective and will have users walking around an ancient landscape with futuristic tools. You'll have "about 60 distinct species" of ancient Earth creature in "a real place that you can walk through, explore, and truly experience in your own way." This is the dinosaur age of video games starting in earnest. This is really happening, and it's happening on the PlayStation 4 with Project Morpheus, Xbox One, and Steam for both PC and Mac systems.

Back in late 2013 we had our first opportunity to bring a magical experience to our living room with the PS4 game "PlayRoom." This game worked with the PlayStation 4 Camera, showing us our living room onscreen with augmented reality characters and objects galore. This week we've been given our first glimpse of what PlayRoom will look like in virtual reality, with Project Morpheus in 2016. These demos were the last part of the collection of early visions we were shown by Japan Studio, the same group of developers that made The PlayRoom.
