Canon has announced that it has added six new point-and-shoot digital cameras to its PowerShot line. The new cameras include the G11, S90, SX20 IS, SX120 IS, SD980 IS, and SD 940IS. The PowerShot G11 is a 10MP camera with a 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization and a 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD. The camera has twin dials for easy access to ISO and exposure settings and supports RAW format. The G11 will sell for $499.99 in October.

Canon Japan has unleashed firmware ver 2.0.0.0 for the Superzoom PowerShot SX1 IS digital camera. This update enabled high-detail and unprocessed RAW format capture, a follow-up to what they’ve promised when the camera announced to be released in US market next month.

Canon first introduced the 20X Ultra-zoom SX1 IS Powershot back at PhotoKina 2008. It was the company’s first compact digicam to honor its CMOS 10MPimage sensor but only made available to Europe markets. Not anymore, Canon USA has announced the ultra-zoom to be released in US region coming this April, better yet, a firmware update to unleash RAW file capability.

A website glitch early today has revealed a pair of new 12.4 megapixel PowerShot IS Digital ELPH cameras at Canon USA. Apparently Canon is prepping to launch a stylish SD960 IS and its slimmest SD780 IS Digital ELPH digicams for PMA 2009, but their “HTML” squad have jumped the gun to display them on company’s web site before the official releases. At the time of writing, the cameras have disappeared from main page but still presented from product comparison section. Details of the digicams after the cut.
