Back in February, Bem Wireless introduced a unique wearable, the Speaker Band. As its name suggests, the Speaker Band is a wrist band that, at first glance, appears to be a boxy smartwatch. Over the face is positioned a grille, however, and beneath it sits a little portable speaker.
Jawbone’s MINI JAMBOX is getting friendly, with new software allowing two of the portable, battery-powered speakers to easily pair up for room-filling sound, while giving two people the chance to collaborate as communal DJs. Released today, the new firmware enables Multipoint in the MINI JAMBOX’s Bluetooth Smart Ready stack: put a couple of the speakers near each other, hold down all three of the buttons on both, and after a few seconds they link up and spread whatever’s playing between both. I caught up with Jawbone to find out more.
Vertu, maker of all manner of high-end mobile devices, have just had their Bluetooth speaker pass the FCC. The SP-1V, as it’s currently known, is a sharply designed Bluetooth aptX capable travel speaker. While we’re not familiar with pricing yet, getting the FCC’s blessing is likely the final stage before production can begin.
In addition to the circular Mira Bluetooth speaker introduced this week at CES, the company has also taken the wraps off its new BRV-X, a wireless offering it is calling "the first true outdoor speaker." Aimed solidly at outdoor enthusiasts -- but perhaps applicable to all sorts of outdoorsy individuals -- the BRV-X offers HD audio amidst a rugged case and design intended for outdoor usage in open-air locations.
Bem wireless has added a couple more products to its wireless portable speaker line at CES 2014. The new products are interesting and have some tricks up their sleeves that aren't that common in the portable wireless speaker market. The new products include the bem wireless speaker duo and the bem wireless speaker mojo.
Jabra has the Solemate and the Solemate Mini, and as we learned back in October, they had plans to add a third model. This latest goes one step larger and is the Solemate Max. Essentially, Jabra rounded out the collection with a bigger model. Aside from the growth in size though, the key features are the same across the board.
Matrix Audio has introduced an update to its Qube portable speakers, the Qube 2. With this latest entrant comes the distinction of world's smallest Bluetooth stereo speaker, as well as a svelte body and very light weight. The speaker is being launched in five colors -- red, black, silver, blue, and purple -- and is available now for $79.99 USD.
The world is not short of Bluetooth speakers, but Fugoo thinks there's room for at least one more brand: one that actually promises great audio quality as well as some Siri and Google Now magic thrown in too. We know, you've heard that before, but for once the hype might have some reality behind it; we caught up with Fugoo ahead of its CES 2014 launch to test the speakers out up against some of their better-known competition, coming away both surprised and impressed. Read on for all the details.
Korus thinks the audio market needs a new music streaming system. That's an ambitious goal: if you've been in the market for wireless audio recently, you'll undoubtedly have seen a fair few existing options, from Bluetooth (with or without aptX), WiFi, and proprietary options like Apple's AirPlay and Sonos' well-esteemed whole home systems. Korus' two new portable speakers, the V600 and V400, don't use any of them, in fact, but is that a brave decision that pays off in performance, or simply too ambitious a challenge for one start-up to bite off? Read on for the SlashGear review.
