Killzone: Mercenary announced as Vita exclusive at Gamescom

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified isn't the only console spin-off that will be exclusive to the PS Vita, as Sony's Gamescom press conference also treated us to the announcement of Killzone: Mercenary. Like most spin-offs, Killzone: Mercenary will be quite a bit different from the core Killzone franchise, as this time around you'll be playing as - surprise! - a mercenary working with both the Helghast and the ISA. This marks the first time in Killzone history that you'll be working alongside the Helghast (at least sometimes), so get excited Vita owners.

PSOne Classics hit PS Vita this month, PS Plus this year

Sony has finally announced when PSOne Classics will begin hitting the PS Vita, telling the audience at Gamescom that the first round of Classics will be arriving on August 28. That's exactly two weeks away, but don't expect them to show up all at once. Sony says that it will be releasing PSOne Classic on the PS Vita in waves, and unfortunately we don't know which games will be first to launch on the PS Vita.

Sony executives stand up for struggling PS Vita

Sony executives stand up for struggling PS Vita

It isn't exactly a secret that the PlayStation Vita has been struggling ever since it launched earlier this year. Though it's hard to get exact numbers out of Sony, weekly sales charts from Japan and monthly sales charts from NPD here in America don't paint a pretty picture - the Vita keeps slipping while the Nintendo 3DS is posting some sky-high numbers on occasion. It's kind of funny in a way, seeing as how the 3DS had the exact same problem as the Vita after its own launch, but that's another discussion for another time.

Nintendo 3DS XL Review

Nintendo 3DS XL Review

Is the 3DS XL the boost that Nintendo needs in a world that’s rapidly forgetting the traditional portable gaming handheld? Let’s find out.

A Sony rep has confirmed that PlayStation Vita game titles coming to the US will be cheaper if purchased and downloaded directly from the PlayStation Network as opposed to buying the boxed copies. Discounted digital copies have been confirmed for the PS Vita in Japan, but the company has yet to make an official announcement as to whether the discount would extend to the US.

PS Vita sales continue free fall in wait for new games

PS Vita sales continue free fall in wait for new games

Sony's PlayStation Vita next-gen handheld gaming device is still struggling in Japan following a strong start that quickly fizzled. PS Vita sales dropped below 20,000 units two weeks ago, a more than 50% decline from the week before. And this past week, that number is on the verge of dipping below the 15,000 mark, as consumers continue to wait for more worthy game titles before making the investment.
