I am a fan of music games like Guitar Hero and especially Rock Band. I have spent many a night making fun of my friends off key singing while playing Rock Band. I even have my share of aftermarket guitar controllers for the game. However, I draw the line at some of the stranger accessories like smoke kits and my own stage monitor speaker like the new HitMaster from Polk Audio.

The HitMaster is a single-point stereo speaker design that has a pair of 2.5″ x 5.5″ horns inside with a pair of 1-inch Neodymium tweeters that surround a 6.5″ woofer. The speaker cabinet measures 14″ W x 9.5″ H x 8.5″ D and weighs 13 pounds.

The speaker has a maximum power rating of 80 watts with 60 watts RMS. Total frequency response is 40Hz-20kHz. Polk also integrates a 1/8″ jack for direct connection to TVs, iPod’s and other devices that support a 1/8″ headphone output. The speaker is set to launch early in 2010 for $99.99.

Polk Audio announced their Atrium Sat 10 and Sub 30 outdoor speaker system at CEDIA 2008. Meant for enjoying music in the great outdoors, this satellite/subwoofer system produces great quality sound.

Outdoor theaters are all the rage these days, so this audio system seems to be right on target. And I get what they’re doing with the terra cotta style planter. I know the subwoofer is supposed to blend in with its surroundings and just look like another backyard decoration, but it does have a bit of a plastic look.

These speakers sound great when they’re blasting together, but the price tag is a little steep. Each satellite speaker will cost you $179 and the subwoofer costs $329. Don’t go looking to buy them yet, though. They won’t be released until January.

Personally, if I create a device, and it’s the best there is, I don’t want it likened to a Bentley, in the car world, that’s small potatoes, liken my product to a McLaren F1, a Bugatti Veyron, or a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, not a Bentley. Then again, these don’t really appear to be even in the Bentley league, maybe the BMW of the audio world.

In fact these look like that house on the corner that used to be condemned but someone came along and threw a new paint job on it and is now selling it for a small fortune. These speakers claim to be of audiophile quality, and it sounds like they are even trying to compare their product to those $400 Bose PC speakers, but they look quite cheap.

Sure, they have various finishes including real wood for the boisterous price of $559, oh, and the subwoofer, which will cost you extra, a $179 extra. I have yet to hear or even see this speakers in real life, so they may actually be worth it, but for now, if I get close to $700 to spend on a PC speaker system, I am going to the closest place that retails Klipsch or Polk Audio products, not some company in Canada that I’ve never even heard of.

Word on the street is HD Radio is the new wave, imaging satellite radio quality but add some ads and lower the price to $0.00 per month. Well with HD Radio people are finally getting a way to revolutionize the way we listen to the normal radio, including the ability to tag a song for later purchase.

Up till now the best you could do for figuring out a song title/artist is either a Google search with the part of the lyrics you remember and hope you find something, or use one of the services where you record a portion of the song or use your phone and the service tries to recognize it for you. Well that is all changing thanks to HD Radio where they are able to transmit not only the song but all the metadata for it OTA.

Well apparently JBL and Polk’s next HD radios are going to capitalize on this neat function and make it so you can tag songs for later purchase in iTunes when you hear them. the process sounds a little more complicated than it should be. It requires you to hear the song on the HD radio, then tag it, then connect your iPod or presumably iPhone, and sync it with the radio and then sync the iDevice with your iTunes library and it will provide a list.

The first device will be Polk’s I-Sonic Entertainment System 2 which will be available in October for an OMFG! $499! Although it is from Polk, and if you have never heard the sound that comes out of any of their equipment, I can personally assure you that chances are real good that this thing will be well worth it.

Polk Audio announced they’ve started shipping the I-Sonic radio to Tweeter Home Entertainment Stores. This is no ordinary radio, because it’s one of the first products to hit the market to combine an HD Radio tuner, DVD/CD player, AM, FM, and XM Satellite Radio receiver in a single compact unit. And supposedly the four-speakers produces big sound quality that’s described as “lifelike” making capable of being your primary home entertainment system.

Dan Hodgson, Polk SVP of marketing is asking customers, broadcasters, and press to be patience since the I-Sonic is in high demands; apparently there are more orders than they can fill in the short to medium time frame (just build more to meet the demands). He goes on to reassure that production is going well and they’re produce a bunch more to meet demands this holiday season.

High quality, convergence devices such as the I-Sonic don’t come cheap, so make sure you’re ready to shell $600 for this pricey all-in-one device.
