The EX-10HG has a 12.1-megapixel sensor and optical zoom, but the real interest is in its hybrid-GPS system.  Unlike regular GPS geotagging, which simply uses a GPS chip to attach positioning information to an image’s metadata, the Casio system offers full PND-style functionality complete with Google Maps.

That means you can browse your photos, pinpointed on a map, directly on the camera itself, but also see other photographer’s images that were taken nearby.  It will also offer directions, a digital compass and wayfinder functionality, and Casio are expected to switch out the regular display for a more usable touchscreen.

In fact when they checked the concept more closely, they found none of the threading you’d usually see for attaching a lens.  Instead there’s what looks to be a lens-release button, suggesting Sony may have used some sort of magnetic mounting system.  AP reckon that would fit in with the novice target market Sony are believed to be aiming the concept at – though Sony representatives themselves wouldn’t confirm or deny anything – though of course it would also mean that you’d be limited to Sony’s compatible magnetic-fit lenses.

The compact digital camera has a 14MP Foveon X3 sensor. The camera is Sigma’s follow-up to the DP2 that landed last April. The DP2s has a new autofocus algorithm for faster focusing, power save mode fro more battery life, and a new rear design. The new camera also has the latest RAW image processing software.

The SP2s can record video at QVGA resolution of 320 x 240 at 30 fps. ISO sensitivity is up to 3200 in RAW mode. A full array of automatic shooting modes are built-in and the camera can shoot continuously at three frames per second for four JPEGs or three RAW images. The rear LCD is a 2.5-inch unit and a viewfinder is optional. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.

The collection is available in several colors of metal and leather selected by Wu and they look very nice. The line has common features like one-touch operation for video recording, taking photos, and deleting photos. These activities often require menu navigation on some cameras. The leather cams come in black, white, and gray. The metal cams are offered in white, black, gold, red, yellow, blue and green.

The cams feature a retractable USB plug and a built-in rechargeable battery. An optional wall adapter is available for charging and the line is compatible with iPhoto on Mac systems. The cameras come with 4GB of storage built-in, 12MP resolution, 3x optical zoom, and a 2.7-inch LCD. The 4GB model sells for $179.99 and an 8GB model with the same features is $229.99. The cams will debut on HSN on March 16. If you have no idea who Jason Wu is (like me) this is the designer who got famous from dressing Michele Obama and other celebrities.

Each uses digital image stabilization and has a distinctive “seven degree” angled grip which apparently is more comfortable for longer periods of recording.  Samsung’s own intelli-studio 2.0 editing and processing software is stored on-board the camcorder itself, ready to be booted up whenever it’s plugged into a USB port.

Both measure 4.09 x 2.1 x 0.61 inches and have 2-inch LCD preview displays.  As well as regular filming, they can be set to shoot images every 1, 5, 10 or 30 seconds.  Both will be available in spring this year, priced at $229.99 for the U15 and $249.99 for the U20.

The Samsung HMX-U20 and HMX-U15 are extremely portable with dimensions of just 2.1” x .61” x 4.09”. As for the SL605, it’s not exactly rugged but it does have a scratch-proof casing and rubberized bumpers.  You don’t get the HD video recording of the AQ100 – it’ll only shoot VGA 30fps MJPEG footage – but there’s a smart night mode and the rest of the automatic functionality.  It will also go on sale in the spring, priced at $129.99.

SL605
The new SL605 was designed with durability in mind, and offers consumers Samsung’s Anti scratch Mask, which safeguards the camera from any unwanted scratches during everyday use. Furthermore, key areas of the Samsung SL605, including the bottom, buttons and areas surrounding the 2.7-inch TFT-LCD (230,000 pixel), are rubberized to further protect the camera from elements such as dust, dirt or sand.
Beyond its durability, users will also benefit from the Samsung SL605’s internal 27mm wide angle, 5x optical zoom lens, which gives them the ability to take sharp and detailed images from any distance. The TL350 also supports panorama shooting, 10fps 10-megapixel rapid shots, up to 1,000fps high-speed movie capture and will grab RAW images as well as JPEGs.  It’ll also recognize up to 20 faces in a single shot, together with various combinations of smiling, blinking, and other intelligent auto modes, and has integrated software for video editing on a PC so you don’t need to carry a CD around with you.

Features for the Advanced and Novice Shooter
The TL350 will appeal to both novice and more experienced users thanks to the combination of Smart and Manual controls. The camera’s intuitive Smart Auto 2.0 (Still & Movie) scene recognition technology will take the guess work out of taking a perfect photo or video every time; however, for those users who want to have more control over image capture, the TL350 supports RAW and offers Manual control. When set to Manual, consumers can experiment with features such as slower shutter speeds, depth-of-field and even focus.

While there’s no news on when you might be able to buy the interchangeable lens compact camera, Sony have spilled the beans on some of the more commercially available products in their catalog.  All of their HD Handycam models, for instance, will get their “Exmor R” CMOS sensor that halves the Quick AF processing speed, can prioritize specific faces for focus/color/exposure/Smile Shutter, and better auto-slideshow presentation.  Meanwhile they’ll also get iAuto, 60p output and the ability to capture 1920 x 1080 HD 24Mbps video in AVCHD format.

As for the lenses, along with the super telephoto monster there’s a prototype Distagon T 24mm F2 ZA SSM and a new Carl Zeiss wide angle lens.  Again, no word on when they might reach the market.

Sony is exhibiting an array of innovative digital imaging products at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2010 International Convention, including a concept model of the new compact α (alpha) DSLR camera system that employs an Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor, which provides full AVCHD video capability.

ANAHEIM, CALIF. (PMA #2220), Feb. 21, 2010 – Sony is exhibiting an array of innovative digital imaging products at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2010 International Convention, including a concept model of the new compact α (alpha) DSLR camera system that employs an Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor, which provides full AVCHD video capability.

New concept α products being shown include an ultra compact model with interchangeable lenses, additions to the α family (including a successor to the α700), along with new TX5 and H55 Cyber-shot® cameras, new printers and other accessories.

α DSLR Camera

In addition to the current DSLR-A230, A330, A380, A500, A550, A850 and A900 digital SLR cameras, the following concept camera bodies and interchangeable lenses will be exhibited. Current interchange lenses, including Carl Zeiss® and G lens products will also be on display.

Cyber-shot Digital Still Cameras

In addition to its α line of DSLR cameras, Sony will also showcase its new Cyber-shot digital still cameras. These models include the recently announced TX5 certified waterproof camera and H55 high-zoom, compact camera.

The DIMA award-winning TX5, which can be used in depths up to 10 feet for up to one hour, is the world’s thinnest and smallest waterproof digital still camera with Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and touch-screen operation. Additionally, the 10.2 megapixel model is Sony’s first digital still camera with an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor that is also certified to be freeze-proof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, shockproof (up to about a 5-foot drop) and dust proof. The TX5 also offers outstanding low-light performance, high speed, Intelligent Sweep Panorama, 720p high definition video recording and in-camera Backlight Correction High Dynamic Range features.

The 14.1 MP H55 camera’s 10x optical zoom Sony G lens with 25mm (equivalent) wide angle is designed for shots from greater distances and of wider landscapes. Featuring 720p HD movie recording, the H55 model also offers Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization to help reduce blur in photos without compromising image quality. It also adds Optical SteadyShot™ with Active Mode, which lets you shoot smoother movie footage even if you are walking while shooting.

Photofinishing Solutions and Digital Imaging Accessories

One retail photofinishing system and one professional printer along with four new digital imaging accessories will also be on display. The new PictureStation™ retail instant photo kiosk solution is simple to maintain while offering small to large-scale stores a cost-effective way to drive additional revenue. Event photographers will also want to take a look at the DIMA award-winning UP-DR80. Sony’s dye-sub printer is fully portable; with world-class speed and versatility professional event photographers need on the go.

Digital Imaging accessories include sports and marine packs, a floating strap (model STP-FSA) for the TX5 camera, a photo printer/frame, Party-shot™ automatic photographer, DVDirect® recorder, as well as a full line of fashionable and functional cases and camera bags for Cyber-shot cameras and Handycam® camcorders.

Handycam High-Definition Camcorders

As the leader in the high-definition camcorder category, Sony offers superior technology in its HD models, even at entry level. Now all 2010 HD Handycam models will feature the “Exmor R” CMOS sensor with a new algorithm to realize 2x faster “Quick AF,” Face Priority to prioritize a specified face for focus, color, exposure and Smile Shutter™ technology, and Highlight Playback for quick video slideshow generation. The new HD Handycam camcorder lineup will also offer iAuto, 60p output, and a new user interface, in addition to capturing content in full1920 x 1080 high-definition video recording at up to 24Mbps, the highest bit-rate offered by the AVCHD format.

The portfolio includes the top-of-the-line HDR-XR550V unit featuring a 240GB hard disk drive that holds up to 101 hours of HD video (LP mode) and a Wide Angle G-lens that captures approximately 2x larger shooting area than previous models. Sony improves Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization with Active Mode by expanding the 3-Way Shake Canceling feature across the full zoom range – from wide to telephoto end, and adds a new feature called Golf Shot to the high end camcorders. This function renders two seconds of motion (golf swing) into a sequence of up to 22 still images. In addition, the camcorder can take 12-megapixel still photos and has advanced features including an assignable dial for manual control (Iris/Shutter/Exposure/WB//Focus/AE shift).

Also on display is the new HDR-CX150 Flash Memory Handycam camcorder offered in black and red. For around $550, this model can capture 3.1-megapixel still photos and includes 16GB of embedded memory, a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 25X optical zoom lens, and SteadyShot® image stabilization with Active Mode — all in a compact design.

In addition to the hard disk drive or built-in flash memory, all of Sony’s new camcorders can record video and still images directly to Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media, Secure Digital (SD), or SDHC media card (all sold separately).

ISO from 80 to 3200 is supported, as well as 5fps continuous shooting, and there’s optical image stabilization too.  Up to 32GB SD/SDHC memory cards are accepted, though unlike some HD-recording cameras we’ve seen lately, there’s no HDMI port for easy hook-up to an HDTV.

Behind the scenes, Ricoh’s Smooth Imaging Engine IV keeps things ticking over, and there’s a dynamic range double-shot function which combines a purposefully under-exposed shot and over-exposed shot to produce one with the best of both.  No word on pricing from Ricoh as yet, but there are more hardware details here [pdf link].

Nikon Coolpix P-Series:

The new Nikon Coolpix P100 ($399.95, March) is the company’s attempt at a super-zoom, with a 10.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and 26x optical zoom.  Nikon are pushing its low light performance, using an HDR feature (often found on DSLRs) to combine several shots and maximise cross-image detail.  It can capture 1080p Full HD video, up to 120fps stills (though only at 1.1-megapixels) and has a 3-inch LCD preview display.

Nikon Coolpix S-Series:

Nikon’s S-Series gets the most new models, with four digicams added.  The range kicks off with the S3000 ($149.95, March), a 19mm thick 12-megapixel shooter with 4x optical zoom and the S4000 ($199.95, March), which throws in 720p HD video capture and a 3-inch touchscreen.  The Coolpix S6000 is 25mm thick and has a 14.2-megapixel sensor and 7x wide-angle zoom, 720p HD video capture and HDMI output, ultrafast-startup and 3fps rapid shooting (at 3-megapixel resolution for up to 45 images); it’ll land in March for $249.95.  Finally the Nikon Coolpix S8000 ($299.95, February) has a 14.2-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom, 720p 30fps HD video capture, a new rotary control wheel and a 3-inch LCD.

Nikon Coolpix L-Series:

The L-Series gets two new models, the Coolpix L110 ($279.95, February) and the Coolpix L22 ($129.95, February) with 12.1- and 12-megapixel resolution respectively.  The L110 has a 15x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD, 720p HD video capture and can shoot up to 840 stills on a single charge.  Meanwhile the L22 has a 3.6x zoom, 3-inch display and runs off AA batteries.

The SP-800UZ has a 3-inch LCD preview display and Li-Ion battery, while the SP-600UZ has a smaller 2.7-inch display and uses AA batteries.  Both can record 720p HD video – and have HDMI connectivity for hooking up an HDTV – and have various onboard filters to tweak and mangle your shots.

There’s also a shadow adjustment mode, which claims to cut out underexposed parts of photos in bright scenes, and dual image stabilization.  Both models will drop in February 2010, priced at $249.99 for the SP-600UZ and $349.99 for the SP-800UZ.

You can organize your photos by person with automatic face recognition technology, by place with a GPS base mapping function or by event; all information will be tagged in each photo’s data. You can easily view photos on an HDTV or on the camera’s LCD with the Photo Surfing or Slideshow functions. The name [ib] stands for imaging bridging, imaging browsing and image brightening. The new software will be available for Windows operating systems only.

The new SP cameras will come equipped with the instruction manual saved on the cameras’ new internal memory. This translates into easily referencing instructions while shooting on the go. The internal memory also enables in-camera image playback in an organized fashion.

SD Compatibility
Olympus’ new Spring 2010 digital compact cameras offer SD compatibility for up to 32 gigabytes of capacity.

Availability
The SP-800UZ and SP-600UZ will be available in March 2010. The SP-800UZ includes a Li-Ion rechargeable battery and charger, and the SP-600UZ includes two AA alkaline batteries. Olympus will offer an underwater housing, just in case you want to go deeper than 16 feet (6020) or 33 feet (8010), which is good for up to 130 foot depths.  No word on how much that will cost, but the Olympus Stylus Tough-8010 and Stylus Tough-6020 will both drop in February 2010, priced at $399.99 and $299.99 respectively.

Fujifilm FinePix A-Series

The FinePix AV100 and AX200 will ship in March and February 2010, respectively, at $99.95 and $109.95.  Each has a 12-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD display and 720p HD video recording.  Power is from regular AA batteries, and the company will also happily sell you an HD Player Kit with a remote control and HD Card Reader that plugs into your HDTV.

Fujifilm FinePix J-Series

The FinePix J-Series is Fujifilm’s mainstream point-and-shoot range, and consists of the JV100 ($129.95), JX250 ($159.95), JZ300 ($199.95) and JZ500 ($249.95).  All have a 2.7-inch LCD and 720p HD video recording, along with tracking autofocus and face detection.  The JV100 and JZ300 both have 12-megapixel sensors (with 3x and 10x zoom, respectively), while the JX250 and JZ500 have 14-megapixel sensors (with 5x and 10x zoom, respectively).

Fujifilm FinePix XP-Series

The XP-Series is Fujifilm’s rugged range, and consists of the XP10, a waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof and dustproof 12-megapixel shooter with 5x optical zoom and 2.7-inch high-contrast LCD.  It’ll arrive in February 2010 for $199.95 and measures 21.7mm thick.

Fujifilm FinePix Z-Series

Fujifilm have two new Z-Series cameras, the FinePix Z70 ($149.95) and the FinePix Z700EXR ($279.95).  Both have 12-megapixel sensors, 5x optical zooms and 720p HD video recording, with the Z70 getting a 2.7-inch LCD and the Z700EXR a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD. Each have easy upload to various online photo and video sharing sites.

Fujifilm FinePix F-Series

The FinePix F-Series gets the new F80EXR ($299.95) in April 2010, another 12-megapixel camera with 3.0-inch LCD and 10x optical zoom.  It too can capture 720p HD video and has face recognition for up to eight people, together with dual-stabilization.

Fujifilm FinePix S-Series

The S-Series gets the new FinePix S1800 and S2550HD, each super-zoomers with 18x optical zooms, 12-megapixel sensors and 3.0-inch LCDs.  Both can capture 720p HD video (the S2550HD gets a mini-HDMI port, too), they have dual image stabiliaztion and face detection.  The S1800 will arrive in February at $299.95, the S2550HD following on in March for $249.95.

Fujifilm FinePix H-Series

If huge zooms are your thing, the FinePix HS10 packs a 30x optical zoom with triple image stabilization and 1080p HD video recording (complete with a mini-HDMI output).  It can shoot seven sequential shots at 10fps, or use that speedy shooting skill to capture five shots and combine them to remove subject motion.  The HS10 captures in JPEG and RAW, has a 3-inch tilting LCD and electronic viewfinder, and will arrive in April 2010 for $499.95.
