Stop Twiddling Your Thumbs and Stand Up

Stop Twiddling Your Thumbs and Stand Up

Originally, I wanted to title this story "Why Women Hate Consoles," but I'm sure there are many women who would take exception to that complaint. I'm not married to one of those women. My wife hates console gaming. She doesn't just hate playing games on my Xbox or Playstation, she hates when I play them, too. For a while, I couldn't figure out why.

Why E3 won’t be as exciting as you think

Why E3 won’t be as exciting as you think

With E3 2010 just a few days away, it's now time to consider what Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and all the major developers will be delivering. The show is the biggest gaming confab of the year, and it stands to reason that all the secrets that developers and hardware companies have been keeping over the past year (or more) will be unveiled. That's certainly the case in the past. E3 has been home to console announcements, additions to major franchises, and much, much more.

PlayStation Move Could Hit Store Shelves as Soon as July

PlayStation Move Could Hit Store Shelves as Soon as July

Sony's placing a lot of hope in their upcoming motion controller, and considering the upcoming competition, that's probably a good idea. With E3 just around the corner, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that Sony's holding their tongue, at least in any official capacity, to make sure that they get to announce all the goodness on their own stage. That's not stopping video game outlets like BT Games from (possibly) ruining the whole surprise.

Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 Could See a Price Drop After E3

Just in case you weren't aware, it's almost June. And, other than iPhone's getting released, that generally means that a huge trade show is going to take place. E3, the largest of video game-centric shows is about to kick off, and there's going to be a few huge announcements in store for the event. One of them that might slip through the gate, though, and merely show it's head afterward, is a rumored price drop for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

PS Move and Project Natal are “great honor” to Nintendo

PS Move and Project Natal are “great honor” to Nintendo

Nintendo have Microsoft closing in on one side with Project Natal and Sony on the other with PlayStation Move, but should they be worried?  Not at all, reckons Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto; he thinks the company should be too busy being flattered by the "great honor" of Wii inspiring the rival motion-control systems.  In fact, he describes Project Natal and Move as "intensified" versions of the Wiimote.

PlayStation Move lag measured: speed-games might suffer?

PlayStation Move lag measured: speed-games might suffer?

Sony's PlayStation Move motion-controller is certainly catching plenty of attention lately, but just how accurate is the system in action?  Sony themselves are claiming "under 1 frame" lag from the hardware, but when combined with a game (that may be tweaked to smooth out jerky user-input), a flatscreen display and the console itself, real-world performance has the potential to be pretty different.  Eurogamer took along a 60fps-capable camcorder to shoot some footage of Move in action, and then ran their stopwatch over the results.

Sony PlayStation Move no memory hog but has controller limitations

Sony PlayStation Move no memory hog but has controller limitations

So, we already know the Sony PlayStation Move controller is coming Fall 2010 and should be priced - in "starter kit" form - at under $100, but we're still seeing more tidbits about the motion-control system drip out GDC this week.  There's good news and bad, unfortunately, including a limitation on multiplayer support in part thanks to the PS3's own Bluetooth connectivity capabilities.  Turns out, while up to four-player gaming is possible, that's not if everyone wants to use both the Move controller and a sub-controller.
