‘Amplitude’ launches for PlayStation 4 on January 5

Harmonix’ reboot of the PlayStation 2 game Amplitude came about thanks to a healthy Kickstarter campaign, but has seen multiple delays throughout the year. As of this past summer, the maker had announced Amplitude was again delayed, and that it would be arriving in early 2016 for most users. Fast forward to today, with Harmonix announcing the official launch date: January 5. This pertains only to the PlayStation 4 version, however.

Oft-delayed Mighty No. 9 gets new trailer, 2 player mode details

Keiji Inafune's twice delayed Mighty No. 9 has just released a brand-new trailer highlighting gameplay and a number of the title's features and play modes. The game is now on track for a February 9th release in the US, and February 12th for the rest of the globe, and now developers Comcept are revealing some of the first details on Mighty No. 9's two-player modes, including co-op and competitive.

PS4 remote play will work for PC AND Mac

Apple computers as well as Windows computers will be able to roll with the official version of Sony's PlayStation 4 Remote Play functionality. Official word came from the master himself, Shuhei Yoshida, on Twitter just this week. Just after a 3rd-party developer made his mark on the world by creating an official app for Windows machines to stream PS4 gameplay, Sony announces that they've essentially seen the value. This isn't all that great a piece of news for the developer of the unofficial app, which will become less-than-necessary soon - but we'll give him a hearty round of applause in the meantime.

Sony PS4 tops 30M sold worldwide

Looks like Sony has its own reasons to be thankful for the PlayStation 4 this holiday week, about 30 million of them, in fact. The company has revealed that its latest video games console has passed 30.2 million units sold worldwide since it first launched in 2013. Sony notes that the sales figure was a total as of Sunday, November 22nd, exactly two years and seven days since the PS4 debuted in the US. It also means the number is likely spike up even more over the next few weeks, once the holiday shopping season kicks off this Friday.

Sony confirms PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility for PS4

While Microsoft's Xbox One has just gotten the ability to play over 100 Xbox 360 titles, its looks like Sony is working on bringing backwards compatibility for PlayStation 2 games to the PS4. This was discovered with the release of a PS4 console bundle this week that includes the new Star Wars: Battlefront, along with four classic Star Wars games from previous console generations, including three from the PS2. In an email to Wired, Sony confirmed that they are working on making more games compatible.

While the PlayStation 4 ships with a single, mono-audio earbud, the only premium headphones for the console from Sony have been the over-ear type. Now there will finally be another option to choose from, as Sony has just announced the In-ear Stereo Headset for PS4. The earbuds plug directly into the headphone jack on the DualShock 4 controller, and they even feature AudioShield technology, which filters out unwanted background noise to let players focus on the game's audio.

Strong PS4 sales help lead Sony to profits

For the last few years, Sony has been plagued with significant losses, mostly due to its ever struggling mobile division. Today, however, the Japanese tech giant has announced a profit of 33.6 billion yen (about $278 million) for the second quarter of fiscal 2015, and it once has its successful image sensor division, as well as continually strong PS4 sales, to thank. So much so, that Sony is even predicting a yearly operating profit of 320 billion yen ($2.64 billion).
