It’s hard to believe it is October already and the leaves are already falling off the trees. Another week come and gone and today I am back with another week in review for your perusal. We found out early this week that the Palm Pre is still headed to Verizon according to an insider. The alleged insider didn’t give any word on when exactly this may happen.

Many cars today come with in-dash navigation systems pre-installed. For those vehicles that didn’t get in-dash navigation from the factory, several aftermarket in-dash units can be added that look factory. Pioneer offers a couple really cool in-dash navigation devices.

If we said that there was a market for iPhone and iPod products, we know it’d be the understatement of the century. And while there’s all sorts of different models out there, sometimes it’s better to just get back to the basics, and shell out some speakers that look like, well, speakers. Pioneer has begun to ship three brand new Blu-ray players today. Initially debuted at CES, these Blu-ray players include the Elite BDP-23FD, which has a Precision Quartz Lock System and capacitors that are perfect for the audiophile.

Pioneer released a brand new Blu-ray writer today, which can also burn DVDs and CDs. The BDR-2203 has the ability to write to dual-layer Blu-ray discs at speeds of up to 8X. Now, I’d say that’s pretty fast, wouldn’t you?

After confirming back in February that they would be exiting the plasma TV business this year, Pioneer have outlined their release and withdrawal schedule.  Pioneer will launch four more Kuro plasma HDTVs from April 1st, but after a combined 3,000 units production will cease.

pioneer plasma closureAppalling news for big-screen plasma TV fans, as Pioneer announce their intention to withdraw from the HDTV business and concentrate instead on car and home audio, DJ equipment and cable TV boxes.  The news comes as the company reveals it expects a 130 billion yen ($1.44bn) net loss, with the restructuring – which will see plants in the UK and US closed, product development axed and around 10,000 employees jobless – aimed to complete by March 2010.

Pioneer is finally letting go of its Laserdisc video format, declares cease production of the first commercially available optical disc storage medium for home video format since the late 80s. Yeah, seriously, I thought it was long obsolete, but apparently they’re still in production till now, offering CD/DVD/LD combo discs player and standalone LD player for as much as whopping $1000 a pop on company online store.
