Pioneer has added another new item to its DJ controller line. The new device is called the DJM-750 four-channel digital DJ mixer. The DJ mixer has a high-performance USB soundcard built-in and is fitted with the industry’s first Boost Color FX feature. That feature allows the user to change the intensity of various effects by turning a built-in effects knob.

The Boost Color FX feature allows the user to change the parameter of the effect by varying the rotation speed of the integrated controller knob. The faster the knob is turned, the more the selected effect is intensified. The knob can work with any of the integrated mixer effects including effects such as filter, crush, noise, and jet.

The Sound Color FX feature also offers the same four effects providing more creative mixing options. Pioneer says that users can switch between Sound Color FX and Boost Color FX to match the music playing. The mixer also has a Beat Effect feature with 13 different types of effects that can be combined with both the Boost Color FX and Sound Color FX to create over 100 types of effects.

The DJ mixer features a 24-bit/96 kHz high-performance USB soundcard inside. That USB soundcard supports simultaneous input and output of stereo signals from up to four inputs and outputs. The mixer also has a 32-bit digital sound processor and send/return circuit parts combined with a low-jitter crystal oscillator for precise audio signals an accurate audio reproduction. The DJ mixer will be available in black or silver with both landing in June for $1199.

The new product is called the DJM-2000nexus performance mixer. The device is designed to complement the recently released CDJ-2000nexus multiplayer. The new DJ mixer offers more mixing functions, including a Beat Slice and Sync Master function.

The DJ mixer also has Pioneer Pro DJ Link technology built-in. Other features include a 5.8-inch LCD multitouch panel with screen effects. The device also supports Beat Effects, and MIDI control capability. The DJ mixer can be linked using network cables with multiple Pro DJ Link enabled Pioneer CDJ players.

That connectivity allows the devices to share a single SD card with music files or USB storage. The device can also interface with up to two laptops that are running the Pioneer rekordbox music management software to allow two DJs to switch between performances. The DJM-2000nexus has excellent sound quality with an audio circuit clock using a highly stable crystal oscillator, and it uses noise reduction circuitry.

The mixer also has an integrated peak limiter to keep audio playing at maximum output while limiting distortion and preventing damage to the mixer. The mixer also has a Live Sampler allowing sound from microphone or master output to be recorded directly to the mixer and then sent out to a supported CDJ device for scratching or sampling. The DJM-2000nexus will be available in November for $2999.

The event was designed to get developers to make new and interesting apps for the Pioneer AppRadio allowing owners of the radios get new and expanded functionality. The contest offered up prizes worth over $50,000 in cash and merchandise with winners picked from three different categories.

The event lasted four days, and pioneer has now announced the winners of the contest. The competition lasted three days continuously, and Pioneer says that nine new apps were created to work with the platform. The apps range from software designed to read Facebook postings and tweets to drivers to car maintenance apps that monitored and measured tire pressure and looked for air leaks.

The contest had three Categories that included safe in-vehicle use of social networking services through voice recognition and text-to-speech, geo-tagged automotive related location-based services, and apps that incorporated technology, products, or services on display at the 2012 SEMA show. The app that won in the social networking category was called Tiles. The app automatically aggregated social media content by taking into account the current time, location, and social activity of the user among other things.

The location-based services app is called CarTourin’. This at is a sightseeing application using location-based services to guide users along a series of tour destinations. The app that showcased technology on display at the show was called CAMBUDDY Drive. This app allows users to control the new GoPro HERO3 camera from inside the car and overlay the recorded video with real-time performance data using the PLX Kiwi 2 and sensors integrated into the iPhone.

Pioneer Electronics has announced that it will be holding its first AppRadio Hackathon during the 2012 SEMA Show. The event is designed to promote the development of unique apps to be used in the car that are compatible with the Pioneer AppRadio. The AppRadio is Pioneers in-dash technology able to control compatible apps directly from inch touchscreen.

We talked about the Pioneer AppRadio back in June of 2011. The Hackathon event will last 69 hours and will kick off on Tuesday, October 30 and end on Friday, November 2. Pioneer has a pool of prizes worth over $50,000 in cash, and merchandise. Prizes will be awarded to the best apps developed in three different categories during the four-day event.

Pioneer is still looking for participants in the contest from developers of all types. The company is calling on developers to create native, backend, and front-end software and user interface designers to participate. Pioneer is focusing on three categories for app development during the contest.

The app categories include voice interface, social networking automotive applications, location-based services applications, and a SEMA Member automotive accessory application. That last category is intended for the development of concepts that incorporate one or more SEMA exhibitors technology, products, or services into the system. The contest will conclude with the judging of apps submitted the morning of Friday, November 2.

Pioneer has unveiled another new DJ controller called the DDJ-SX. This DJ controller is built specifically to work with the newest DJ software out there called Serato. Pioneer says that this DJ controller utilizes Serato as the basis for its control layout and ergonomic design. The DJ controller has special trigger pads and controls specific to the software.

Pioneer used larger jog wheels to allow the DJ more precise mixing and scratching, and the controller has multiple inputs for expandability and four-channel mixing capability. The DJ controller features Dual Decks allowing two tracks to be controlled at the same time to allow for scratching or recalling hot cues on both tracks as if they were performed on a single track. The controller also features Slip Mode.

That mode allows a song to be played silently during a performance loop, scratch, or hot cue and resumes audible playback of the song when the other operation ends. The controller also supports multiple FX mode and single FX mode. Other functions for the controller include the ability to set up to eight hot cue points for each deck and a vertical waveform display for tempo synchronization.

The controller has a number of other features and ships with the Serato DJ software. The DDJ-SX has dual CD and phono/line inputs for external devices and two inputs for microphones. It also features two master outputs with XLR and RCA capability. The controller will ship in November at an MSRP of $1199.

Pioneer is big in the DJ controller business and has numerous products to its credit. One thing most of those products have in common is that they are far from cheap. Most of the pioneer gear we talk about for DJs isn’t something that the entry-level person just getting into the art is likely to be able to afford. Pioneer has unveiled a new DJ controller called the DDJ-WeGo that it says is the most affordable DJ controller it has ever offered.

The controller ships with Virtual DJ Limited Edition DJ software. That software allows the user to perform with music stored on a Windows PC or a Mac. The DJ controller is available with five different body colors including white, black, red, green, and violet. The device has multicolored LED backlighting on the jog wheel and the user interface of the DJ software included can be color customize to match the DJ controller.

This controller is designed to be easy for beginners to learn and has multiple features. Features include Jog FX to bind multiple effects to the jog wheel. Pulse Control provides visual prompts with a variety of colored lights on the jog wheels with lights for mix pulse, launch pulse, and FX pulse.

The device gets power from the USB connection on a computer so it doesn’t need an external power supply. It features integrated audio ports allowing for high quality input and output of different sounds. The controller also features an integrated soundcard for extended music storage and portability. The design for the controller makes it physically small and weighs less than 4 pounds. Pioneer will launch the controller in September at an MSRP of $399.

Pioneer has been making some nice in-car entertainment systems for a very long time. The company has announced six new single CD receiver models that will fall into its 2013 line. The new models include the FH-X700BT, DEH-X6500BT, DEH-X5500HD, DEH-X3500UI, DEH-2500UI and DEH-150MP. The receivers share some of the same features with some models, including things such as iPhone certified connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, support for apps, HD Radio, and more.

The coolest of the features in the 2013 lineup start with the DEH-2500UI and DEH-150MP models. Both of these models offer a single disc CD player and customizable multi-color illumination for controls and buttons. That feature is nice because it allows you to match the colors of the radio to the color of the lights inside your vehicle. Pioneer lights the areas on and around the buttons and volume knobs to make it easier for you to adjust settings in the dark.

Both of those higher-end receiver models are Made for iPhone certified with integrated iPhone and iPod connectivity allowing the user to access and play music from your iTunes library from the radio’s front panel controls. The radio can also charge the iPhone using a charging cable. The two higher-end models also include USB connectivity supporting music stored on flash drives and the USB port is located on the front of the radio.

The FH-X700BT and DEH-X6500BT both support Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming. They support pairing with iPhones back to the 3GS version, and the systems support voice control via Bluetooth. Various 2013 versions of these in-car radios also support Android devices via the USB connection. All of the 2013 models other than the DEH-P150M support music and streaming audio apps from USB connected iPhones or iPods. These radios are all surprisingly inexpensive as well with availability across the board set for August at MSRPs ranging from $70-$150.

Pioneer has unveiled a new wireless DJ system that lets DJs create music with fewer wires. Pioneer Electronics claims that the XDJ-Aero is the industry’s first Wi-Fi DJ system that offers the ability to wirelessly play music tracks from smart devices, including smartphones, tablets, and notebook computers. Using the DJ device the user can mix and arrange music tracks stored on smart devices via Wi-Fi.

The system also supports USB devices and computers using the included DJ software. The XDJ-Aero is also able to create its own wireless access point when Wi-Fi isn’t available allowing connectivity with portable devices. That means if you’re playing somewhere where there is no external Wi-Fi network, you can still connect to your digital music on your smartphone.

The DJ system can identify up to four separate devices as sources for music playback. The included software is called rekordbox. The DJ system has audio ports for connecting other sources, including pioneer CJ players, and the system can be used as a standalone two-channel mixer. Pioneer includes multiple jog controls, audio effects, and other features into the system.

Features of the XDJ-Aero include a Jog Drum for manipulating samples. Sample Launch has four integrated sounds such as scratch, horn, siren, and laser. The Beat Effect adds four additional sound effects including Trans, Flanger, Echo, and Roll. The final main feature is a Sound Color Filter. The XDJ-Aero will launch this month at an MSRP of $1399.

This week the folks at Pioneer have simultaneously revealed and put up for sale their newest stereo system which works with a Airplay on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad! It’s a sleek and fashionable looking device that can sit on your desk and look impressive while you choose to play the music from anywhere in your home or office wirelessly or through its slide-out dock. The dock of course only works with your handheld devices, your iPad will have to sit to the side if you’re working it that way. Could this finally be your ultimate iPod player of choice?

This device also has DNLA 1.5, vTuner Internet Radio, and built-in wi-fi connectivity. You’ll be able to see all the action on the integrated 2.5-inch color LCD screen and the whole system is made to work with the free Apple Remote app for ultra-simple control. You can sync your DLNA-certified PCs and hard-drives to work with Music Tap to wirelessly stream music that way, and vTuner Internet Radio will give you access to thousands of internet-base radio stations from all around the world.

There’s another function in here that you can use in collaboration with another free app from the iTunes App Store, that being Air Jam, which when installed on each of your Apple devices allows up to four of them to be connected via Bluetooth to your Music Tap. With this setup you’ll be able to make a group playlist to play on your Music Tap – party time! Have a peek at this video to see what this whole thing is really about, then pick it up from Pioneer for $399.00 instantly.

Pioneer has a bunch of DJ gear that is aimed at advanced DJs all the way down to the starter DJ that includes speakers and other gear. The company has announced a new DJ mixer called the DJM-250 and it is an entry level DJ mixer that has features for the DJ starting out that will allow them to create their own unique music. The DJM-250 has the functionality of a pro mixer according to Pioneer and has the first 2-channel filter effects in the industry.

The device also has eight different inputs and XLR balanced outputs. Other features for the device include a sound color filter, which is a manual filter function on each channel of the device that is enabled with a large knob and can be adjusted to the tune and the DJs tastes. The filter allows the mixing of fader and EQ effects.

The device has eight inputs with patch for four DJ multi-player and analog turntable inputs, three AUX inputs, and a mic input. The mixer can also act as a pre-amp for PCs and other gear. The mixer is compatible with 48 kHz/24-bit digital processing and supports fader start play functionality. It also has peak level meters, and can be rack mounted. A black version will launch in December for $399 and a white version will land in January for $399.

Pioneer makes a bunch of DJ gear and we have talked about a lot of it around here over the years. The last bit of DJ tech to hit from Pioneer was the DJM-T1 mixer with all its dials and sliders. Pioneer also has a bunch of other stuff with scratch wheels and turntables. Pioneer is showing off some of the customized gear that artists have made in a show called the Pioneer DJ Art Mix Tour.

The show has a slew of customized Pioneer CDJ-2000 digital music players that were used as the canvas for the art. The art show is set up to benefit the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Artists include BT, Bob Haro, George Thompson, Jesse Graves, Joe Hahn, Man One, Ritzy Periwinkle, ROSTARR, Steve Aoki, The Crystal Method, Tommy Lee & DJ Aero as well as Victor “Marka27″
Quiñonez.

The art ranges from 80′s style splatter paint to my personal favorite, the LEGO version. The LEGO version has all the buttons and scratch wheel replaced with LEGO bricks and plates and it is really cool. I also like the turntable with the small keyboard at the bottom and the dual guitar necks on the sides. Check out the source to see all the custom gear.

We have talked about the Pioneer AppRadio a few times now and to be honest I really suspected the device would land and be very expensive. As it turns out the AppRadio is not really expensive at all when you think about high-end car audio. Pioneer has announced that the AppRadio is now available for immediate purchase at $399.

The AppRadio supports the iPhone and iPod touch and will mirror some content from your phone to the screen on the radio. The AppRadio works with the iPhone contacts, calendar, photos, and provides hands free calling with Bluetooth integration. The device will also support Google maps. The catch is that some functions will only work when the car is park and the brake is engaged.

The list of apps that will display on the 6.1-inch capacitive touchscreen include MotionX-GPS Drive, Inrix, Traffic Rdio, Pandora, and the iPod music library. The device is offered now for $399 in Best Buy, Amazon, and other places. This is really cool, but I don’t like the parked only functionality for some processes. If my kid in the front seat wants to watch a flick the radio should support it.

It seems like every time I look up Pioneer is tossing a new DJ this or that onto the market. I had no idea Pioneer was so big in the DJ market until the last year or so with all the new gear it has been offering up. The latest new DJ product is the DJM-T1 mixer that ships with Traktor Scratch Duo 2 software. The mixer is jam packed with some cool features that DJs will really like.

The DJM-T1 is a complete solution with a hybrid mixer, a controller, and an audio interface in one unit. Pioneer designed the new mixer to support and be ready to use the new features of the Traktor Duo 2 software right out of the box. The mixer can be used without a computer if the turntables stop working and the mixer has controls for the six FXs that are included in the software and for crossover adjustments as well.

The mixer supports the Sample Decks feature that allows the DJ to open two scratch decks and load up to four loops or samples in each. The device has a USB soundcard inside and it can be used for scratching with CDJs or turntables. The soundcard will allow the recording of sets to a computer using a cable and the device uses a 24-bit DA converter for clarity. The mixer also has enhanced fader operability and durability. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.

Other than the shiny gold tone of the headphones, they are functionally the same as the black HDJ-1000 headphones. They feature fully enclosed dynamic stereo drivers that are 50mm dome type. The frequency range of the speakers is 5Hz to 30kHz and the impendence is 36 ohms.

The maximum input power is 3500mA and the sound output level is 107dB/m. The headphones have a 3.5mm headphone plug and come with a 3P mini plus adapter that is gold plated and screws in. The headphones weigh 9.52 ounces and have a 1.2m long connection cord that can be extended to 3 meters. The gold and black versions of the headphones will ship in December for $209.

One thing that I haven’t really been interested in since I spent a week being grounded for trying to scratch with my dad’s Thriller album was being a DJ. If you are the DJ sort looking to take your game to the next level, Pioneer has unveiled a pair of new digital turn tables.

The two turntables are the CDJ-2000 and the CDJ-900 that are designed to work with digital files and allow the DJ to perform without needing a laptop. The turntables feature Pioneer rekordbox music management software.

Other features of the turntables include Pro DJ Link, Needle Search, USB, and SD connectivity. The SD card function is limited to the CDJ-2000, which also has a CD/DVD capability. Both devices support MP3, AAC, WAV, and AIFF audio files from CD and USB devices. The CDJ-2000 will ship in November for $2,150 and the CDJ-900 will ship in December for $1,600.
