ASUS Eee PC Karim Rashid Collection & U-Series Bamboo notebooks live

Looking for a bright pink or bamboo notebook?  ASUS have got your back either way, unveiling both a netbook collaboration with designer Karim Rashid and a U-Series notebook with real bamboo in the casing.  The ASUS Eee PC 1008P Seashell Karim Rashid Collection is the more eye-catching of the pair, thanks to a diamond-textured (and vivid pink) shell that's supposed to create the illusion of moving light, while the ASUS U Series Bamboo uses a plastic-injected bamboo material cladding Intel 32nm Arrandale CPUs and USB 3.0 connectivity.

HP multitouch TouchSmart tm2 notebook & Mini 5102 netbook debut, plus N450-based Mini 210/2102

HP have outed their latest notebooks and netbooks at CES 2010, and like we've seen from other manufacturers the theme seems to be touch-sensitivity.  Biggest is the HP TouchSmart tm2, a convertible tablet PC which replaces the company's tx2, with a 12.1-inch WXGA capacitive touchscreen, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and optional ATI Mobility Radeon GPU.  However there's also a 10.1-inch Atom N450 netbook, the HP Mini 5102, which has a multitouch-touchscreen option of its own.

NVIDIA Ion 2 GPU for Pine Trail confirmed for Q1 2010

NVIDIA haven't held back recently with their Ion 2 news, but it's good to see the company reconfirming their plans to launch a Pine Trail-compatible version of the graphics chipset and attach a date to its roll-out.  As we heard before, the new Ion 2 for Intel Pine Trail will be a standalone GPU rather than the combined Northbridge/GPU chipset as offered for the current Intel Atom models, and it's arriving in Q1 2010.

Fujitsu LifeBook MH380 netbook latest on the Pine Trail train

Fujitsu LifeBook MH380 netbook latest on the Pine Trail train

We were less than impressed with Fujitsu's first attempt at a netbook, the Atom N270-based Amilo Mini Ui 3520, and so we're hoping the company makes a stronger showing with their Atom N450-powered Fujitsu LifeBook MH380.  The MH380 has a 10.1-inch, 1366 x 768 display, a 250GB hard-drive and 1GB of memory, as well as Intel's newest Pine Trail 1.66GHz processor.

The 2.97lb netbook is also said to manage up to 7hrs of runtime with its standard 6-cell battery, and we're glad to see Fujitsu have made both WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth standard.

NVIDIA Ion 2 launch delayed at manufacturer request

NVIDIA Ion 2 launch delayed at manufacturer request

NVIDIA have officially confirmed that the next-gen "Ion 2" (not the final name) graphics chipset is in the works, but it won't be arriving quite as soon as many had hoped.  The company told Fudzilla that the Ion 2 won't see an official launch until later in Q1 2010, as opposed to the Q4 2009 unveil we'd expected; that's apparently because hardware manufacturers want to milk a few more sales out of first-gen Ion devices before the new chip arrives.

Squint and you can just make out Acer's upcoming Pine Trail netbook in the company's driver pages, the Acer Aspire One 532, packing an Intel Atom N450 processor and a variety of SKUs.  As well as the newer processor - which we're expecting Intel to officially announce in January 2010 - the netbook also offers a choice of display resolutions, including the common 1024 x 600 and the far preferable 1280 x 720.
