Nikon Coolpix S1000pj pico-projector camera official, plus S70, S640 and S570 digicams

Nikon have officially announced its new Coolpix range, including the pico-projector packing S1000pj first spotted yesterday.  The Coolpix S1000pj has a 12.1-megapixel sensor, 5x wide-angle optical zoom and EXPEED digital processing as in the company's DSLR range, but most interesting is the 10 lumen LED integrated projector that can create up to 40-inch VGA-quality picture.   Read The Full Story

Having only been talking about Nikon's pico-projector-packing digital camera earlier on today, images of the digicam - plus three other upcoming point-and-shoots - have leaked.  The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is the production version of the VP650 prototype, and packs a compact projector module in the center of its casing. Nikon are tipped to be preparing a digital camera with integrated pico-projector, capable of not only snapping images but projecting them at up to a claimed 8 x 12 inches.  The upcoming point-and-shoot, believed to be the Nikon VP650, was revealed in French photography magazine Chasseur d'Images. AAXA have unveiled their new pico-projector, the P2, and at first glance there's plenty to endear the palm-sized device.  The resolution gets a boost to 800 x 600 while brightness also climbs to 33 lumens; even better, there's a standard VGA input along with the usual onboard media player, 1GB of integrated storage and microSD card slot.  Unfortunately, the thorn in the P2's side is its battery life. WowWee's Cinemin Swivel bendy pico-projector is now officially available for pre-order, only around two months since Amazon began accepting pre-orders themselves.  Announced back at CES, the Cinemin Swivel is capable of projecting a 60-inch (1.5m) image from over 8 feet (2m) away, and has a 90-degree hinge useful for squirting the picture out onto the ceiling without demanding you hold it. Well another week has come and gone as time steadily marches on and like every other week here on SlashGear, it has been a busy one. Poor old Toshiba took the old adage "if you can’t beat them, join them" seriously on Monday and announced that it would be launching its own Blu-ray player by the end of 2009. That had to be hard to swallow for the execs who bet it all on HD DVD only to be defeated by Blu-ray. Also on Monday the slick HP Mini 5101 netbooks tipped up starting from $399. Samsung's MBP200 pico-projector has gone on sale in Germany, coupling a compact DLP projector with an onboard PMP.  First announced back at CES, the MBP200 goes a step or two ahead of pico-projectors we've tested such as the BeamBox or AAXA by virtue of its integrated 2.2-inch display, meaning the PMP functionality does not necessarily require the projector be active. Samsung have taken the wraps off of their latest pocket-projector, the P410M, and while you'd certainly need reasonably-sized pockets to carry it, it perhaps makes up for things by offering higher than usual specs.  The P410M boasts up to 800 x 600 resolution and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, together with inputs that include VGA, composite and a USB port.
