Exploding water balloons make awesome pictures

It's already reaching summer-like temperatures here in Texas with temps of 91 degrees not counting humidity here over the weekend. That means that driving through my neighborhood, I enviably see kids playing in a water hose, using water guns, or tossing water balloons at each other. I was constantly picking up water balloon shards last year out of my yard with the kids all playing with them constantly. An artist has taken some water balloons and used them to create some really cool photos.

Networked Police – Facial Matching Glasses

Brazilian police have come up with a system to scan the faces of people in crowded areas, checking them against a central database to see if they're wanted bad-duded. I love this. Truly, these are like the grandpappy of the wearable systems from Snow Crash. It's a set of glasses with a camera fitted to them. The camera can grab 400 faces per second out of a crowd and send them all to a central database. If there's a match, a notifier pops up on a screen and lets the officer know that there is a wanted criminal afoot.

Sony subsidiary MotionPortrait have been demonstrating their latest 3D technology: automatically creating a 3D graphic from a 2D photo of a person's face.  The system - also called MotionPortrait - can identify the mouth, eyes and other features of the human face, and in two seconds construct a 3D representation of that face which can be manipulated, rotated, or even overlaid on top of video clips.
