AT&T Captivate, T-Mobile Vibrant & Galaxy S simple unlock unearthed

AT&T Captivate, T-Mobile Vibrant & Galaxy S simple unlock unearthed

Unlocking a cellphone can be a headache, so we're pleased to see Samsung has done its users a service with the Galaxy S - and the US versions, the AT&T Captivate and T-Mobile Vibrant, based on the phone - by including the unlock codes in a file on the smartphone itself.  Unfortunately they've not made them easy to access, and so the team over at xda-developers has stepped in with a simple tool that takes a locked Galaxy S family handset and spits out an unlocked version.

AT&T Samsung Cetus i917 Windows Phone 7 leaks

AT&T Samsung Cetus i917 Windows Phone 7 leaks

Windows Phone 7 must be close, because the leaks keep on coming.  Another Samsung smartphone has poked its head into the wild, believed to be the Samsung Cetus i917 headed to AT&T's clammy clutches.  Packing the usual WP7 hardware into a glossy black casing that's a little more discrete than HTC's two-tone Schubert/Mozart, we're guessing that means the previously spotted prototype was indeed just a model used for internal testing.

Dell Thunder prototypes leak, get early video review

A Dell Thunder prototype has not just leaked but come bounding out, with the Engadget team getting enough hands-on time with two of the upcoming Android smartphones.  Despite the early build of both units - dated April, with the real thing not set to arrive until later this year - they sound pretty solid, with one handset seemingly outfitted for quadband AT&T use and the other suggesting T-Mobile USA support.

LG to Implement NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 Processor in Upcoming Smartphones

LG has kept up with their Windows Mobile offerings, and they've said that they have a commitment to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 that's set to launch this year. With that being said, the hardware needs to make folks out there in the market get excited again. Because, unfortunately, LG and smartphones haven't necessarily been on people's tongues as of late. But, that has a very good chance of changing, if LG does indeed work with NVIDIA to get Tegra 2 into a smartphone later this year.

Nokia N9 Breaks Cover, MeeGo Along for the Ride

Nokia N9 Breaks Cover, MeeGo Along for the Ride

Nokia is still a presence in the smartphone industry. Even if their name isn't synonymous with the market here in the United States, the moment you enter the international market, things change. With that being said, there's a lot of talk that Nokia's last stand is coming up here pretty quickly, and stand-out devices like the N9 need to show that the company still has a place in a fight against Apple's iOS and Google's Android. So when a new boat load of images break cover of the device, a small spark lights up inside of us. Call it hope -- or maybe irrationality.

Technologies that Shaped a Decade

Technologies that Shaped a Decade

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a few gadgets that had been transformative to me. A reader wrote in and asked if I thought there any categories of products that had changed the world over the last decade. I thought about that for a while and here my list of the some of the gadgets and services that almost overnight (from a historical perspective) changed everything and went from enthusiast to mass market.
