“What inspection?” asks Pegatron over Apple FLA worker audits

iPhone manufacturer Pegatron has denied any knowledge of upcoming Fair Labor Association audits, despite Apple saying that all of its suppliers had "pledged full cooperation" with the plans announced yesterday. Pegatron is aware of Apple's social responsibility policies, CFO Charles Lin told Bloomberg, but has not been informed of any upcoming inspections, which Apple and the FLA say will begin in the spring. Apple’s iPhone 5 fabricator, Pegatron, has reportedly landed a 15m-strong order for the fifth-gen smartphone, with shipping expected to begin in September. That’s according to the latest leaks to drain their way down the DigiTimes plughole, with component supplier sources claiming that – contrary to expectations of a significantly more advanced handset – the iPhone 5 “does not seem to have any major update” from its predecessor. That could suggest a single device, or that Apple has split manufacturing responsibilities for a two-strong next-gen iPhone line-up between suppliers.

HTC Flyer tablet a 7-inch Pegatron rush-job for Q1 2011?

More chatter around HTC's new tablet, the HTC Flyer, has emerged, with a new Economic Daily News report suggesting that the company has worked with Pegatron to rush the first model out by the end of Q1 2011. According to the report, the 7-inch slate will run Android 2.3 as well as a new version of HTC Sense, and be followed by two Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets later in the year. That fits in with previous talk - which pegged the two follow-up slates as arriving in June 2011, at least one of which potentially having 4G LTE connectivity - and certainly paves the way for the Flyer to make its debut at MWC 2011 next week.
