Only 220 Palm Pre sold in Ireland since launch?

Back when we reviewed the O2 Palm Pre in October 2009, we pondered whether the sheer length of time between its announcement the preceding January and its launch nine months later would leave buyers cold.  Unfortunately it sounds like that might have been the case: Mobile Industry Review have heard from an unnamed "heavyweight industry source" that O2 Ireland have sold a mere 220 Pre handsets, and that sales have been "equally successful" in the UK.

Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus hit Verizon Jan 25; webOS getting video capture

Palm have announced the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, and as expected they're headed to Verizon Wireless.  The Palm Pre Plus doubles memory to 16GB and drops the navigation button, while the Pixi Plus gets the WiFi that was missing from the Sprint Pixi.  Meanwhile both Verizon handsets will get a new 3G mobile hotspot application that, like a MiFi, will allow users to share their EVDO Rev.A connection with up to five connected WiFi clients.

Google Nexus One gets BillShrink treatment: undercuts iPhone 3GS and DROID

The Google Nexus One has only been official for a few hours - you can find our first impressions and a hands-on video here - but BillShrink have already done their usual calculations to work out how the Android 2.1 "superphone" stacks up against the competition.  At $179 subsidized via T-Mobile USA, or $529 SIM-free and unlocked, the Nexus One not only undercuts the iPhone 3GS but the previous Android device of the moment, the Motorola DROID.

Verizon Palm Pre Plus, Motorola Devour and LG VS750 tipped incoming

Details of Verizon's upcoming smartphones have leaked, and if you've been waiting for a new WebOS, Android or Windows Mobile device from the carrier then you're in luck.  The Palm Pre Plus, Motorola Devour A555 and LG VS750 have all been tipped as arriving over the next few months by PhoneArena's tipsters, though right now details on all three are reasonably minimal.  It's unclear, for instance, what the difference between the Sprint Palm Pre and the Verizon Palm Pre Plus might be.

webOS 1.3.2 speeds up Palm Pixi; 1.3.5 imminent

webOS 1.3.2 speeds up Palm Pixi; 1.3.5 imminent

A sprinkling of webOS news this morning, as both a new update gets pushed out to Palm Pixi owners and a future update is tipped.  Palm Pixi owners are reporting that webOS 1.3.2 is being pushed to their handsets, though there's still no sign on Palm's Pixi software page, and while we're lacking an official changelog the new firmware is tipped to speed up how the smartphone handles multiple open applications.

As for the rumored future update, that's believed to be webOS 1.3.5 and expected to arrive in mid-December.  The news was revealed by a loose-lipped O2 Germany rep, apparently, who explained that one of 1.3.5's tweaks will be to fix an SMS bug that roughly halves the character limit after a special letter is entered.

Euro Palm Pre gets webOS 1.3.1 (at last)

Euro Palm Pre gets webOS 1.3.1 (at last)

One of our more frustrated complaints in our review of the GSM Palm Pre released in Europe a few months back was that it ran webOS 1.1.3, whereas at point of launch the US version on Sprint was already a few OS iterations beyond that.  At the time all O2 and Palm Europe would say was that "parity" would come later in 2009; happily that time is now upon us, and Palm have pushed out webOS 1.3.1 to European Palm Pre devices.
