Palm Pre Plus webOS 2.1 update already up and running on French phone

Well, that didn't take long. O2 Germany only began pushing out the webOS 2.1.0 update for Palm Pre Plus handsets a few hours ago - complete with the stern warning that it was for the German model and no other - and already a doctored version is up and running on other models. Olivier Charavel got webOS 2.1.0 on his French Pre Plus, and the best news is that it grants the smartphone with a new lease of life.

Palm Pre Plus gets webOS 2.1.0 update in Germany

HP's suggestion that older webOS devices wouldn't be seeing 2.x updates seems to have been overly cautious: an upgrade to webOS 2.1.0 is now available for the Palm Pre Plus on O2 Germany. According to the support page, Pre Plus owners can punch their serial number into a webOS doctor to find out if they're eligible; unfortunately right now that means only O2 Germany handset owners get the update.

Palm P102UEU “Pre 2″ clears FCC with Euro 3G/UMTS

Palm P102UEU “Pre 2″ clears FCC with Euro 3G/UMTS

Palm's new webOS smartphone looks to be another step closer to launch, with the European 3G/UMTS version crossing the FCC as the Palm P102UEU.  Tipped to be Europe's Palm Pre 2, the test results apparently suggest a slider with very similar aesthetics to the existing Pre (since the two share the same part number for the Touchstone-compatible battery cover) and a 1GHz processor.

The news follows a sighting of the Palm P102UNA and Palm P102EWW in a European test database last month, which were believed to be North American versions of the same device for GSM and CDMA networks respectively.  The FCC filing adds another tidbit about the battery, which at 1,150mAh is the same capacity as the existing Pre power pack.

Sprint Palm Pixi gets WiFi transplant from Pre Plus [Video]

The absence of WiFi from Sprint's Palm Pixi was all the more galling when Verizon's version, the Pixi Plus, went on sale with its extra shot of wireless.  One owner, PreCentral forum member gitit20, decided that the original Pixi was ripe for a shot of DIY modding, and so he's transplanted the wireless card from a Verizon Palm Pre Plus into his Pixi and got the whole thing running.

Palm Pixi Plus (AT&T) Review

The Daily Slash: May 20th 2010

Only 11 more days left in the month, and today marked a pretty loud, and impressive, announcement from Google. Of course, there's just 11 more days in the month, and that means June's getting closer and closer. And we all know what's coming in June. Tonight though, in typical Daily Slash fashion, we'll focus on what else happened out there today. First up, in the Best of R3, we've got a report card with some pretty impressive statistics, and Versace has a new phone out (it's "unique"). And then in the Dredge 'Net, Steve Jobs isn't a fan of WebM, the white iPhone HD looks very sleek when it's rendered, and it looks like the AT&T Pre Plus has been given an unlock.

The Daily Slash: May 18th 2010

Welcome to the latest edition of the Daily Slash. Tonight, on the eve of a relatively large convention, we've got quite a bit of news to go through.
