OUYA gets Jelly Bean update as dev boards arrive

News from the OUYA team has been relatively low-key since the project's $8.5m Kickstarter closed, but the company has been quietly working on an Android update and early developer hardware. Google's OS waits for no man (or Rubik's Cube-sized games console) and so OUYA has been updated to run Jelly Bean, not Ice Cream Sandwich as originally promised. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 9, 2012

, Aug 9th 2012 Discuss [0]

Welcome to Thursday folks, just one more work day before arriving at the weekend. Today we had next to nothing about the Apple vs. Samsung trial, except for the news that a similar South Korean trial has been frozen for fear of it becoming too similar to the one being held here in the US. The lack of Apple vs. Samsung news leaves room for far more interesting things, however, like space! The Curiosity rover sent back a color panoramic shot of the surface of Mars along with its first full resolution image, and it's a pretty awesome sight. Sadly, it wasn't all exciting news for NASA today, as the Morpheus moon lander failed during a flight test and exploded into flames. Luckily no one was hurt, but this is still a pretty big setback for the folks at NASA. Read The Full Story

OUYA’s millions: Kickstarter and the lure of the rumor-mill

It may not be Pebble‘s $10m, but with OUYA‘s $8m Kickstarter has its newest standard-bearer, and around sixty thousand sets of eyes turn to the mailbox for the promised early-2013 deliveries. It’s a surprising degree of patience – however ill-suffered – considering the short-shrift we give most products, software updates or even just the regular postal service if they dare to make us wait. Immediate gratification is arguably at odds with today’s trends, but there’s another angle that makes Kickstarter so appealing: it’s the rumor-mill we can buy into.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 8, 2012

, Aug 8th 2012 Discuss [0]

We've officially reached the middle of the week, folks - only two more days to go and then the weekend is here once again. Today we didn't have too many stories about the ongoing trial between Apple and Samsung, but what we did get was huge. A rather damning 132-page report surfaced in court today, which shows Samsung attempting to differentiate the original Galaxy S from the iPhone specifically, and we looked at the difference between competitive analysis and flat out copying as a result of the report. On the lighter side of things, Conan O' Brien had a bit of fun with the trial on last night's show, so be sure to give that a look. Read The Full Story

Namco name drops some classics such as Pac-Man, Galaga, and Tekken, but it wasn’t confirmed that those specific titles would make it to the platform. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 7, 2012

Welcome to Tuesday evening, folks. Apple and Samsung's patent suit is still going on, but today we didn't get too much news about it. Samsung said that the high return rates of the Galaxy Tab had to with the devices malfunctioning, and not because customers were confusing it for the iPad like Apple claimed Apple's expert witness, Peter Bressler, said today that the iPhone brought on a "crisis of design" over at Samsung headquarters, and we found out just how much Mr. Bressler is getting paid to sit on the stand and testify for Apple. Spoiler alert: it's a lot of money, and now we're on the lookout for "expert witness" job openings. Read The Full Story

Its name is Epic Skater, and it's made by some of the developers who worked on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Guitar Hero. If you're a fan of skateboarding games and that doesn't get your ears to perk up, then we're not really sure what will. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 3, 2012

, Aug 3rd 2012 Discuss [0]

Welcome to the weekend, everyone! We're about ready to dive into the weekend ourselves, but not before we deliver the evening wrap-up. As with every other day this week, today gave us some more news about Apple's patent trial with Samsung, with Judge Lucy Koh interviewing each and every one of the jurors to make sure they weren't being swayed by any outside influences. Apple's senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller took the stand today to convince the jury that the iPhone's design was unique, while the company's legal counsel did its best to make sure that Samsung didn't share any iPhone sales numbers. Judge Koh also said that Apple wasn't allowed to keep its customer survey results a secret, so Samsung did get a bit of news that could help it out as the trial progresses. Read The Full Story
