If you use an iPhone 4/4S and need more runtime for your smartphone a new battery case has launched from OtterBox. The battery case is called the iPhone 4/4S Defender Series with iON Intelligence. We saw this device when it was a prototype back during CES in January.

The battery case is no longer a prototype and is now available to purchase. The case is designed to provide the impressive protection against drops that the OtterBox Defender series is famous for. It’s also designed to give you more runtime when you are away from an outlet.

OtterBox uses its three layer protection common with all of the Defender Series cases. The most interesting part of this case is its iON Intelligence capability that automates the power management process. Rather than continuously charging the phone, even if it’s fully charged already, the case knows when your phone needs more power. An interactive app goes along with the case and monitors the the amount of battery life remaining for both your phone and the case.

The case has 10 LED lights along the bottom edge to show you how much power is left in its internal battery. The case also comes with a micro USB cable designed to charge the case to allow you to sync the phone at the same time. OtterBox says that the case will charge your iPhone until it reaches 100% battery capacity or for up to two hours before it stops charging. The case will automatically begin charging again when the phone drops to a power level of 60%. The case is available right now for $129.95.

I’m sure we’ll see our fair share of cases for the new Samsung GALAXY S 4 release over the next few weeks and months, but Belkin and OtterBox have come right out of the gate to announce that they’ll be offering cases for the new phone when it arrives in late April. Belkin has already released photos of their new cases, while OtterBox is keeping it a mystery for the time being.

Belkin will be releasing 11 cases in total. The Wallet Folio case being their most premium case for the new phone. It will be priced at $49 and will feature genuine leather, a cover that folds up into a stand, and there will even be pockets inside to store small things like credit cards, IDs, and receipts.

As for OtterBox, they will have their usual lineup of cases available for the GALAXY S 4, including their Defender Series, Commuter Series, and Reflex Series. The Defender Series is OtterBox’s premium option that offers the best protection, while the Reflex Series offers a low-profile design that’s sturdy enough to take on a few hits.

Belkin says their cases will be available in “April 2013″ while OtterBox has yet to officially announce availability, although the cases will “soon be available” for the new device. Again, we should be hearing about more companies in the coming weeks who will be releasing their own cases, but Belkin and OtterBox seem to have been the first ones to the line.

OtterBox is well known for their robust cases for a handful of devices. They offer a bit of insurance in case you ever drop your phone, or even throw your phone at a wall in a fit of anger. After the official HTC One announcement earlier this week, it looks like OtterBox is taking no time to introduce cases for the new smartphone.

OtterBox has made three cases for the HTC On using their popular line of Commuter and Defender series of cases. The regular Defender HTC One case will cost $50 and will come in a bevy of different colors that you can choose from, including black, glacier (grey/white mix), blushed (grey/pink mix), and punked (black/green mix).

The company is also offering a RealTree Defender case, which will give your phone a nice camouflage look, just in case you need to be completely hidden while hunting out in the woods, smartphone and all. This case will cost you $60. As for the Commuter series, an HTC One case will cost you $35 and it will come in a mixture of colors as well, including black, glacier, steel blue (black/teal mix), lilac, black/purple mix), and punked.

There’s no word on availability yet, but the company allows you to submit your email address to be notified when the new cases eventually become available, which should be sometime in March (the same time that the actual phone is releasing). These cases may not be as tough as the Armor series of cases that we checked out at CES last month, but you’ll be guaranteed that your brand new HTC One will be well protected using any OtterBox offering.

OtterBox is making a big appearance here at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, and they unveiled their new Armor series of smartphone cases. The company is known for durable and indestructible cases, and the Armor series definitely skimp on that. In fact, the Armor series is OtterBox’s most toughest case yet, and we ended up getting our hands on the new case.

OtterBox says that new Armor series case is waterproof, drop proof, dust proof, and crush proof. It can withstand water as deep as 6.6 feet for up to 30 minutes before it’ll give. It’s drop proof from up to 10 feet and it can withstand up to 2 tons of pressure. Plus, completely dust proof, and the company says that “zero” dust will get into your phone.

Actually, the phone is so dust proof that they put screens over the speaker ports so that sound will still come out of the phone, but no dust will get inside. We have to say that it’s really impressive, and users who want complete protection of their phone will no doubt benefit from OtterBox’s new Armor series case.

The case will be available for the iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S III. Technically, OtterBox says that the case is still a prototype, but it’s “very close” to being a finished product. It’ll be available starting February 22 at a reasonable price of $99.

OtterBox is here at ShowStoppers at CES 2013, and they’re just unveiling some new, updated iPhone cases. The Defender series is the company’s most popular product, and they just revealed an updated version that comes with an extra battery, as well as an accompanying mobile app that provides a user interface for monitoring the extra battery.

The case provides the same great protection that the Defender series has always provided, but this updated version, which OtterBox is still calling a prototype, comes with some extra new features, including an extra 1450mAh battery, which will provide double the power of the iPhone 4/4S, which comes with a 1440mAh battery on the inside.

The case also has ten LED indicators on the front, and each one represents 10% of the battery life, and clicking a button below the LEDs will turn on the indicators for a couple of seconds so that you can see what level the external battery is at without having to open up the OtterBox app.

Speaking of the app (which was built by Fueled), OtterBox introduces iON Intelligence technology with this new Defender case. The app tells you how much juice you have left in both your iPhone and the external OtterBox battery, and will automatically determine when your iPhone battery needs more juice. Again, this is still an experimental sample, so some things may change, but the company said that we should expect it to arrive before the summer.

Gadgets are an unfortunate mix of expensive and fragile, with the wrong jostle, bump, or drop potentially sending your smartphone or tablet into an early grave. OtterBox creates a variety of cases designed to prevent these unfortunate incidents including the Defender Series. As of today, you can now pick up DS case for your Galaxy Tab 2 and Droid RAZR HD.

The OtterBox Defender Series cases feature triple-layer defenses against the many perils that can threaten your gadgets. Each case has a built-in display protector, as well as a mid-layer made from polycarbonate and an outer layer made from silicone. These layers are designed to protect smartphones and tablets from shocks and drops, and to keep dirt and debris out of the devices’ various ports.

Also released is the Commuter Series case for the RAZR HD and the RAZR MAXX HD. The Communter Series case is similar to the Defender Series, offering a screen protector, mid-layer composed of silicone, and an outer-layer made of “strong polycarbonate.” Neither the Defender Series, nor the Commuter Series are waterproof, however.

The Droid RAZR HD features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, and has 12GB of internal storage space. You can check out our review of the handset here. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 features a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600, as well as a dual-core 1GHz processor.

It looks like OtterBox is expanding their business to not only include cases for different mobile devices, but also to make screen protectors and protective wraps for gadgets. The company acquired screen protector maker Wrapsol for an undisclosed amount of money. Not a lot of details are known at this point yet.

Wrapsol is a Boston-based company that specializes in making of different kinds of screen protectors and protective wraps for mobile devices. They offer a large variety of protective film wraps, including smudge-resistant solutions, durable protectors, privacy shields, and non-slip products.

OtterBox President and CEO Brian Thomas says that “Wrapsol is a promising company with similar values and similar culture whose product aligns with the OtterBox mission of complete, premium device protection.” He continues by stating that acquiring Wrapsol will “significantly enhance” OtterBox’s ability to provide customers with even more top-tier protection products.

It seems both parties are happy and excited about the acquisition. Wrapsol Vice President of Sales Brett Webster says that “joining the OtterBox family is a great opportunity for Wrapsol and its employees.” The company is “excited” to bring their products over to OtterBox and to give their employees “a chance to join another world-class team.”

The two big categories of interest at CTIA 2012 as far as we’re concerned are Devices and Accessories, the latter being what we’re going to have a look at today. Have a peek back at our CTIA 2012 Devices round-up from yesterday and prepare yourself here for a set of oddities and masterfully executed device helpers such as you’ve never laid your own eyes on before! This year’s CTIA was a little bit more tame than in past years for how powerful a delivery of devices it was, so we had a chance to hit accessories hard – behold the fruits of our labor, one by one!

Start your journey down accessories way with none other than the folks who brought you the PowerBag with the myCharge extended battery lineup 2012 refresh in full hands-on fashion. A brand new company you’re going to want to keep your eyes on is NEXGEN Skins for their dimensional gadget coverings of all kinds – a completely new solution! During the second of two big keynote presentations, VISA President John Partridge brought on the accessories talk as he announced that they’d “moved beyond” NFC for their mobile payments across the earth – they’ll still use NFC of course, but it’s bigger than all that!

One device that sort of bridges the gap between device and accessory is the Jabra Supreme UC Bluetooth headset with its flip-up microphone and noise cancellation in droves. Energizer brought on some multi-power chargers with clamps and lights. On the truly thin side, Digipower ChargeCard mini powerpacks stole the mini side of the show.

In what was easily the most impressive display of the show, Tech21 and their “Impactology” brought on a hammer to the goo – and tossed an iPhone against a wall to boot! The fashion forward folks at Moshi brought the Moshi iGlaze Versacover to the show to show everyone what it means to take an Apple design to the next level – believe it or not!

Otterbox brought their A-game with a collection of new cases for the HTC One series and DROID Incredible 4G the same day it was announced! AT&T brought us to a house where they had a whole array of accessories brought together to form the Voltron of home automation systems: AT&T Digital Life in person! SuperTooth came on strong with some brand new SuperTooth Bluetooth Melody Headphones in a lovely shade of purple.

We saw a cool new in-car Clarion Next Gate iPhone dashboard controller with tap-tastic features onboard a 7-inch display. The folks at HzO Waterblock Hydrophobic smartphone coatings showed us what it really means to be waterproof.

Here at CTIA 2012 the theme seems to be all about protecting our smartphones and tablets with cases, or keeping you safe while driving and using a mobile device. Today we are showing the first of the two and have a slew of new cases to protect our beloved phones by OtterBox for the HTC One series, the brand new Incredible 4G LTE, Galaxy Note, and even a few for the iPhone 4 too.

First we’ll start with the HTC One series. Otterbox has a new line of cases for both the international and AT&T HTC One X, as well as the T-Mobile HTC One S, in both the durable defender series, and their lightweight commuter model. The Commuter on the S shown above (right) has a soft inner shell protected by a durable and lightweight plastic skeleton to cover all the right places, then the Defender model on the One X is as durable as they come and you can see why with the included pics.

Next OtterBox is already ahead of the pack and have just shown us a few cases for the new DROID Incredible 4G LTE, announced earlier today by Verizon and becoming available soon. Otterbox will be offering multiple cases from all their series for the Incredible 4G when it launches later this month.

Along with the One series and the Incredible 4G LTE OtterBox also had a couple new cases for the Samsung Galaxy Note, and even a neat new translucent Reflex series for the iPhone 4S coming in multiple colors while still showing off that Apple style with a see-through design.

While pricing and exact release dates weren’t available we can expect the HTC One cases to be available soon, and the Incredible 4G LTE cases to launch along with the device soon. Check out all the pictures below.

If you want a really protective case for your iPad, OtterBox has you covered. The company makes some of the most protective cases out there for iPads with the Defender series and Commuter series cases. OtterBox has announced that it has a new accessory for these cases that makes the iPad easier to grip called the Latch.

The Latch is a strap system that is designed to wrap around the corners of the iPad when it is inside either the Defender or the Commuter cases. You can also use the Latch without a case on the iPad to make the tablet alone easier to grip. The Latch has a padded handgrip that is adjustable to fit the hand of the user.

It also ships with an additional elastic strap with Velcro attachment and an adjustable lanyard. The Latch includes a screen cover and an s-biner utility clip as well. When used together these accessories allow you to attach the iPad to the headrest of a car seat and lots more. You can also connect the tablet to your leg as well. The Latch is available right now for $49.95.

Anytime we get a new smartphone we always want to keep it working and looking good. That means that you need to protect the device from scratches, drops, and bumps that come with actually using a device in your daily life. One of the most protective cases for any smartphone comes from OtterBox and is called the Defender.

OtterBox has announced that it is now offering the Defender for the Atrix 4G smartphone. The case offers all the protection the Defender does for other smartphone. You get multiple layer drop and shock protection. The case protects against dust intrusion as well. The case hasn’t been tested for protection against water apparently.

The Defender measures 4.92″ x 2.87″ x 0.75″ and weighs about 46g. The only downside to the Defender case is that it tends to add a lot of bulk to your smartphone. That means the device can be harder to get in and out of your pocket. The Defender also has a screen protection film to keep the screen from being scratched up. Pricing and availability are unknown, but the case should be in the $50 range of the other Defender offerings.

OtterBox has now announced some new colors for the Defender case for the iPhone 4 that will provide the protection you want and give a bit more style to the case as well. The case is now available in blue, red, black/white, and black/pink colors.

All of the new colors have the same protection against water and other issues. They also come with a holster clip that allows the iPhone to be carried face up or face down by the user. All of the new colors are the same $49.95 price as the original all black case.

The Commuter for the Evo sells for $34.95 and presumably, the case for the Droid Incredible will be the same price. The Droid Incredible case is out of stock at the time of writing. Both cases have the same features since they are from the same case series.

The cases allow access to all the buttons and controls on the phones without and interference. They have silicone plugs for the ports to keep out dust and have a self-adhering screen protector to prevent scratches to the screen of the phones. This is not the case to protect against water.

After dropping my iPhone 3GS not too long ago and breaking the screen I am a bit worried about dropping my iPad and breaking it. To be honest I am more worried about my wife or kids dropping it and breaking it. My daughter carries it around everywhere playing Slingshot Cowboy, if you need her you just have to listen for all the mooing.

What I need is one of these new iPad cases from OtterBox. We all know OtterBox makes some of the most durable and rugged cases for the iPhone 4 on the market like the Defender case. The Defender for the iPad has those same features we know and love from the smaller version for smartphones.

The iPad version has a two-piece polycarbonate shell lines with soft felt and a silicone outer skin. A polycarbonate cover snaps over the screen to protect it and it can function as a stand when you want to watch video or type with the iPad upright. The case will work with the iPad dock. The Commuter is a silicone and polycarbonate shell that also includes a screen shield. It is important to note that neither of the iPad cases protects against water. The iPad Defender is $89.95 and the Commuter is $64.95.

As two sheets of glass in a sandwich with a thin metal band, the iPhone 4 isn’t exactly the most rugged smartphone we’ve seen. Happily third-party manufacturers like OtterBox are around to address that: their new Defender Series for iPhone 4 promises to wrap the Apple smartphone in three layers of protection: a shatter-resistant polycarbonate shell, a clear display screen cover (as well as a clear cover for the Apple logo cutout on the back) and a silicone skin. Together, OtterBox reckon, it’s enough to make the iPhone 4 “nearly indestructible”, plus it also addresses the antenna issues too.

OtterBox has put the Defender case through lots of fancy testing to make sure of it, but the short version is that because the iPhone 4′s antenna bridge isn’t getting touched by a human hand, you won’t see the attenuation issues that prompted Apple’s press conference last Friday. The case also gets access to the various hardware controls around the smartphone, and is dust, shock and bump resistant.

Meanwhile two further iPhone 4 cases are due from OtterBox, the Impact Series and Commuter Series, with varying degrees of protection versus bulk. The OtterBox Defender case for iPhone is available now, priced at $49.95, while the Impact and Commuter cases will be $34.95 and $19.95 respectively.

Press Release:

From the Retail Box to an OtterBox, Defender Series for iPhone 4 Revealed

Fort Collins, COLO. – Apple® enthusiasts can now take their new iPhone® 4 from the retail box to an OtterBox™ as the Colorado case manufacturing company unveils its Defender Series™ case. Impact Series™ and Commuter Series™ cases are coming soon.
“We set the bar high for quality and durability,” OtterBox founder and CEO Curt Richardson said. “Extensive research and testing is done to ensure our cases are precision-fit and proven to withstand abuse. Great design takes time and we are confident to now deliver our signature Defender Series protection for the iPhone 4.”
Now available, the original multi-layer case provides the most rugged protection available for the iPhone 4. First, a polycarbonate shell made of hi-impact, shatter-resistant material is installed. Built into the shell is a clear Multi-Touch display screen cover as well as a clear cover for the Apple logo cutout on the backside. Finally, a silicone skin wraps around and locks into the shell resulting in a unified, nearly indestructible solution. Also included is a holster-style swivel belt clip.*
The black OtterBox Defender Series case for the Apple iPhone 4 has been officially NAC tested to address the loss in signal strength. Test results indicate this case solves the antenna issue by acting as a dielectric between the two antennas of the device. No loss of signal strength occurs when using the iPhone 4 in a Defender Series case.
Coming soon, the OtterBox Commuter Series case features two layers of device security for a completely new level of innovation. A silicone mid-layer and a polycarbonate shell combine to provide protection from bump and shock, while the self-adhering screen protector defends from scratching. Similar to the Impact Series, the Commuter Series will offer coverage for the iPhone 4 power button, volume rocker and home button. Additionally, this line provides silicone plugs for the charging port and headphone jack that flip open for access.** Customers can sign up online to receive notification about case availability.
No one does a silicone skin like OtterBox. The OtterBox Impact Series, also coming soon, is a single layer silicone skin, yet far from simplistic. With inner coring to dissipate shock away from the iPhone 4, this case option will provide durable protection and innovative features. Silicone covers the power button, volume rocker and home button to protect from dirt and dust, yet does not interfere with functionality. The charging port and headphone jack remain open and accessible.*** Customers can sign up online to receive notification about case availability.
All cases will accommodate every feature of the iPhone 4 with tight precision including proximity sensors, ambient light sensors, secondary mics and speakers. For full technical specifications for each series, visit the product pages at www.otterbox.com/iphone-cases/iphone-4-cases/.
Time spent worrying about potential damage to the new iPhone is now over. OtterBox Defender Series protection has arrived.

OtterBox has launched a new case for the Palm Pre that addresses an issue I had not really thought about for slider phones — how to get a case that lets the phone still slide. The new case is called the Tandem Series and it is made in two pieces that clip onto both halves of the Pre and allow for protection against drops without restricting the phone.

The case covers the volume and power buttons with a thin silicone layer and all other ports and buttons are accessible with the case on. Pricing and availability for the case are unknown. I would bet the cost would be in the $20-$30 range.

In all the time we had our Nokia E72 review unit in, we never really felt the need to drop it, cover it in dust or generally knock it about. Still, there are more demanding people out there than us, and some of them have a soft spot for an excellent QWERTY keyboard on their smartphone, and so OtterBox have stepped in with two new cases for the E72: a Defender and a Commuter.

The two versions cater for different usage scenarios, with the Defender being the more rugged of the two while the Commuter leaves the E72 less bulky. The OtterBox Defender first wraps the smartphone in a clear membrane for dust/scratch protection, then a hi-impact polycarbonate shell, and finally a silicone skin that protects against bumps and shocks. Meanwhile the OtterBox Commuter starts with a screen protector, adds a silicone layer and then finishes with a one-piece polycarbonate casing.

Putting a Defender in your pocket will add 3.09oz to the E72, while the Commuter is a whole lot more friendly at 0.75oz. The former is $49.95 while the latter is $34.95; both are available now.

Press Release:

OtterBox Covers Nokia E72 Smartphone From Every Angle

The Defender Series for Nokia E72 also comes with a holster belt clip, providing easy access for people on the go.

Layer 2: Durable silicone mid-layer

If what you want is case that doesn’t scream for attention, doesn’t add much bulk, and offers protection for your smartphone, the Impact case may be just what you are looking for. Unlike OtterBox’s Defender line of cases, the Impact series is not water resistant.

All you get with the Impact is protection from drops and bumps. The case does include a self-adhesive screen protection film. Construction of the case is from black silicone and it adds minimal bulk to the phone. All ports and buttons are still accessible and usable when the phone is in the case.

Three layers are involved. Firstly there are two separate polycarbonate screens, one over the Storm’s touchscreen and front-panel buttons and the other over the camera and flash. Then there’s a high-impact polycarbonate shell, which OtterBox call “a captivating combination of style & protection”, but I’d call black and chunky. Finally, a silicone skin goes over, to cushion the smartphone from bumps and shocks.

There are cut-outs for the audio jack and keys, plus slots for the speakers and microphone, and they throw in a holster which supports the Storm’s magnetic proximity sensor that automatically shuts off the display. The OtterBox case for the BlackBerry Storm is available now, priced at $49.95.
