Tweetbot for Mac released for download

The alpha version of the application Tweetbot for Apple computers running OS X has been released to the public today. This application has been a user favorite in its iOS version for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch for over a year now, and the folks creating that app are just about ready to push it to the desktop as well. Apple confirms Macs not eligible for Mountain Lion upgrade

Apple has confirmed which Mac systems will be compatible with the fast-approaching OS X Mountain Lion upgrade, and it's bad news if you're running a MacBook dating back to before 2007 or a Mac mini from before 2009. With each iteration of OS X there's always a list of machines that have been left behind, and Mountain Lion is no different, though Apple has not given any specific indication as to why older systems don't meet the grade. Retina MacBook Pro 13-inch appears in Geekbench

This afternoon several benchmarks have appeared in the greater archives of Geekbench (a system we also use for computer reviews) which show a brand new Apple MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display. This is different from the current model 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display we've already reviewed in that, one, of course it has a different size display, and two, that it has a significantly lower score in Geekbench than we got - a total of 7806 compared to our 15-incher's 12970. Apple Maps spotted for OS X desktop use

Apple's next-level GPS mapping and 3D exploration app has been spotted in the code for the beta launch of iOS 6 with an indicator that it'll be working with OS X soon. This will mean much more than just a mobile-based threat for Google Maps, as we originally suspected, it'll be Apple attempting to take full control of the very much Google-dominated maps landscape from all angles. Apple: corrupt app update bug has been fixed

A large number of apps were affected by an upgrade crash bug on the iOS and OS X App Stores, a problem first spotted by Marco Arment, the developer of Instapaper. The story quickly gained traction, with Arment updating his blog highlighting all the apps that were stricken with the issue. Apple commented that it was looking into the problem last night, and has now confirmed that it has been fixed. Read The Full Story

Apple sued in China over Snow Leopard trademark

Apple finally settled the iPad trademark case in mainland China, paying Proview $60 million to put the issue to rest. Now it looks like Cupertino will be coming under fire from another target: a Chinese chemical company is suing Apple over a Snow Leopard trademark. Jiangsu Xuebao claims to have filed the electrical equipment trademark protection back in 2000. Read The Full Story

BlueStacks AppPlayer for Mac puts Android apps on OS X

Running Android apps on your MacBook is now a possibility, with virtualization specialist BlueStacks bringing its clever software to Apple's OS X. The tool - initially vaunted as a "Parallels for Android" - has been available on Windows for some time now, but BlueStacks now supports 17 Android apps on OS X including popular newsreader app Pulse. Retina MacBook Pro 4-monitor setup revealed

It appears that the Retina MacBook Pro has shown itself to be the first Mac notebook to exist with the power to work with four displays natively. The Mac Pro tower has an ability to power this many monitors, of course, but in that the Retina MacBook Pro has been proven this week to be able to run three monitors outside of its own this week via HDMI and Thunderbolt, it is a bit of a milestone for the manufacturer at least. 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display likely coming soon

Once we got our hands on the original 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, it seemed almost inevitable that Apple would release another iteration of the device. Today a note has come through from Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI, an analyst group who suggests that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display might only be three months away. This information also ties in with NPD DisplaySearch analysis says via Richard Shim and Jeff Lin, both of them suggesting that a 13.3-inch panel was already being produced. Read The Full Story

Yesterday we heard from two sources that the Mac Pro and the iMac were due to receive updates sometime next year, with both reportedly receiving new designs. David Pogue heard the details from an Apple executive, and an email from Tim Cook to an Apple fan also detailed how a Mac Pro refresh was coming in the future.
