More and more information has emerged regarding the next MacBook Pros featuring Ivy Bridge chips, and now 9to5Mac has detailed exactly what to expect from the new 15-inch model. They say that Apple is currently finalizing the new laptop, and that it will feature a slimmed down design, drop the optical drive, include a high-resolution Retina display, and most interestingly, have several USB 3.0 ports.

Mountain Lion adds “Do Not Disturb” feature

Apple continues to update the Mountain Lion developer preview, bringing it up to version 3 so far. The latest update adds even more functionality, this time relating to notifications. Apple has added a “Do Not Disturb” feature, which will hide alerts and banners so that you get some work done instead of being constantly distracted. Mountain Lion still keeps tracks of alerts in the Notification Center, so they’ll be waiting for you when you do want to come up for air.

Apple hands Gatekeeper keys to developers

Apple has begun to encourage the developer masses to begin preparing for OS X Mountain Lion by working with new Developer IDs and Gatekeeper in advance of its ultimate final product. This program will allow users to gain greater trust in Apple-distributed software through the Mac App Store as each piece of software downloaded in the future will contain a Developer ID certificate. This Developer ID certificate lets Gatekeeper verify (like magic!) the app to make sure it's not any sort of known Malware so that the user can download without worry.

If our readings are correct, the planets are coming together to create a perfect storm of availability in software, hardware, and demand for a MacBook Pro 2012 release this June at WWDC. It's a very simple combination of the Apple OS X Mountain Lion software release, a precedent of notebook hardware being released at WWDC, and the pulling back of supply for the line of computers we're speaking about here that says we're about to see a new MacBook Pro in less than two months from now.

There were reports in Feburary that Apple were working HiDPI support into OS X Lion, which would allow resolution independence and sharper graphics on high resolution displays. More evidence has emerged today that Apple may be bringing Retina Displays to MacBooks in the future, with high resolution art for some UI elements being discovered in the latest Mountain Lion developer preview.
